Jamaica close in on title success

The table-toppers Jamaica edged closer to clinching the Carib Beer series as they destroyed Barbados's top order on the second day at Chedwin Park. By stumps the defending champions Barbados were reeling at 162 for 7 in reply to Jamaica's towering 552 for 9 declared. Wavell Hinds (153) added just nine more to his overnight total of 144, but the rest of the Jamaicans chipped in with decent totals to lift the score to 552 for 9, prompting Hinds to declare. The fast bowler Daren Powell took 3 for 29 as Barbados slipped in their first innings, although Ryan Hinds batted strongly to post 80 not out by stumps.

A brilliant century from Daren Ganga launched Trinidad & Tobago into a strong position by the close of Day 2 at Montserrat's Salem Oval. Ganga struck an undefeated 16 - his second successive century - as T & T posted 367 for 4 with six wickets still remaining at stumps. They now need just another six runs to edge ahead of Leeward Islands, who added just six runs to their overnight total as T & T polished them off for 372. Ganga's knock included 22 fours and two sixes. Ricardo Powell was in typically bullish mood, carving 63 in a stand of 93 for the third wicket with Ganga.

Ramnaresh Sarwan posted a breezy half-century as hosts Guyana set about overhauling Windward Islands' first-innings total of 443 on the second day at the Bourda Oval in Georgetown, Guyana. The Windwards resumed on their overnight score of 240 for 5, as captain Rawl Lewis (82) marshalled his lower order and together they lifted their score to 443, with every batsman contributing a handy score. Orlanzo Jackson played aggressively: his 44 included seven fours and a six, while Fernix Thomas struck five fours and one six as he posted 27 not out in just 13 balls. But Guyana made a solid start to their reply and were 111 for 2 by the close.
