Steve Waugh has not been approached to coach South Africa on their Australia tour next summer, according to the United Cricket Board. The board said Waugh, who was linked to the job last weekend, had not been contacted by their officials.

A UCB spokesman also said Waugh had not spoken to the board and candidates for the position were unlikely for another month. Ray Jennings, the coach, is currently overseeing South Africa's home one-day series against England and his job is yet to be advertised.

Waugh's manager Robert Joske said at the weekend they would consider the position if it was offered while Geoff Marsh and Tom Moody, the former Australia players, were also reported as being on the short-list.
