The Australian board has flexed its muscles again by ordering Andrew Symonds back from his stint with county side Kent to undergo treatment on an Achilles-tendon injury.
Symonds, 29, is in his fifth season with Kent and has played five first-class matches for them this season, averaging over 72 with the bat. He has also taken 17 wickets. However, the Australian board has summoned him back, and he will miss the remainder of the summer.
But, as ever in county cricket these days, Kent have already lined up another overseas player, with Symonds's fellow Aussie, Michael Bevan, coming to replace him. Kent will hope he will arrive as soon as possible, as they look to push towards the top of Division One of the County Championship. Bevan has already played county cricket for Yorkshire and Sussex in the past.
The Australian board has also ordered Glenn McGrath to miss two Championship games and a limited-overs match for Middlesex as he recovers from an ankle injury.
