The Oval Trust has announced the cancellation of their scheduled match between Asia and the Rest of the World at the AMP Oval on Tuesday 18th September 2001. A number of wholly unforeseen circumstances conspired against Surrey County Cricket Club who were to have staged the match on behalf of the Trust. The financial uncertainties that these circumstances created meant that the Club had no option but to call off the event, given its charitable nature.
Paul Sheldon, Surrey County Club Chief Executive stated:
"We deeply regret the disappointment that this will have caused to the many spectators particularly those from the Asian communities, who were looking forward to the game. All those who have purchased tickets will be refunded in full, and we thank all those who have been involved for their understanding.
Surrey County Cricket Club and the Oval Trust remain committed to holding further events that will raise money for their development appeal."
