Middlesex hope Miguel Cummins will add freshness, hostility to bowling attack

Middlesex have signed Miguel Cummins for the rest of their County Championship campaign.

Barbados born fast bowler Cummins has started training with the Middlesex squad and will be available for selection against Durham, starting on Tuesday at Lord's, followed by matches against Lancashire and Derbyshire.

Cummins has played 14 Test matches since 2016, collecting 27 wickets with best figures of 6 for 48. He has a total of 210 wickets at 25.74 in 76 first-class appearances.

Angus Fraser, the club's managing director of cricket said Middlesex coach Stuart Law and assistant Nic Pothas had both worked with Cummins in West Indies and gave glowing reports.

"At the end of a period of intense cricket it is inevitable that some of your fast bowlers begin to feel the strain of a season and complain of soreness and niggles," Fraser said. "We have three big matches to play in this season's County Championship and want to gain one of the three promotion places that are available.

"The signing of Miguel will add freshness and some hostility to our bowling attack and allow us to, hopefully, play fully fit bowlers in each game. He will provide us with something different and it is great for us to have the option of another Test quality bowler to pick from."

Middlesex are seventh in the 10-team second division, 21 points behind Northamptonshire, who currently occupy third place and therefore the final promotion position.
