Collymore six-for rocks Jamaica

Daren Ganga and Adrian Barath, the teenaged opener playing in only his third first-class match, slammed centuries for Trinidad & Tobago against the Windward Islands to leave them poised on 364 for six at the end of play at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre.

Barath shared in a 143-run first wicket partnership with Gibran Mohammed, who returned to the opening slot after impressing with a half century against the Leewards last week., and Ganga posted a 124-run sixth wicket stand with his brother Sherwin to steady the ship after a middle order batting collapse.

Barath fell on 101, lofting Denis George, the offspinner, to Deighton Butler at cover. Ganga, though, remained unbeaten at the end of the day, not out in 123, an innings that included 12 fours and a six.

Cornered by Corey Collymore, who ended with an impressive 6 for 30, Jamaica collapsed to 132 on their first day of their Carib Beer Cup match against Barbados at Chedwin Park. Having reached a comfortable 87 for 1 at one stage, after choosing to bat first, Jamaica lost 9 for 45 in a shocking collapse.

On a pitch that held no terror, Jamaica's batsmen were under pressure from the left-arm swing of Pedro Collins and the hostile pace of Tino Best from the outset. The morning's session produced only 58 off 27 overs. Brenton Parchment, the opening batsman, and Wavell Hinds, the No.3, were the only two batsmen to offer some sort of resistance, adding 53 for the second wicket.

Enter Collymore. His lean spell over the first three matches - he'd taken only one wicket - finally ended as he dramatically swung the pendulum. He seamed the ball around, bowled an impeccable line and length, cleverly varied his pace and induced batsmen into errors on a bone-hard surface.

A four-wicket haul by Narsingh Deonarine helped Guyana take control against the Leeward Islands on the opening day of their Carib Beer Series at Albion.

Responding to the Leewards' modest first-innings score of 187, Guyana closed on 67 without loss with Royston Crandon (27) and Sewnarine Chattergoon (26) solidifying their advantage.

Leewards's decision to bat first backfired under scorching heat on a track which had some moisture. Jeremy Gordon, the debutant medium-pacer who turned 20 last week, struck two wickets and triggered the collapse. Legspinner Mahendra Nagamootoo then struck twice in the space of five runs and handed Guyana the firm advantage before Deonarine mopped up the tail with an efficient 4 for 24 in 10.3 overs.
