that will be that! Full delivery just outside off stump. Wells clears his front leg and bludgeons it back past the bowler to seal a six-wicket victory for the Renegades!
Hurricanes vs Renegades, 32nd Match at Melbourne, BBL, Jan 07 2023 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Renegades won by 6 wickets (with 11 balls remaining)
9:20pm Right. That brings us to the end of our coverage for this game. But the action in the BBL comes thick and fast. The Scorchers are playing the Brisbane Heat at Perth as we speak, with the hosts opting to bowl first. Head over there, with Ekanth bringing all the updates to you. Until next time, this is me (Shashwat) signing off on behalf of Binoy George and M Venkat Raghav. Goodbye, and take care!
9:15pm A fairly comfortable victory for the Renegades in the end. That, though, was not the case until Harper arrived at the crease. His innings began on the worst possible note, with him being involved in a run-out. Thereafter, he calmed down his nerves, took stock of the situation and pummelled the Hurricanes into submission. He ended up with a 48-ball 89, which included seven mammoth sixes. Guptill played his part at the start too, blazing away to a 19-ball 36. Wells was not at his free-flowing best but did enough to stitch a partnership with Harper and take the Renegades past the finish line.
As for the Hurricanes, well, they will be ruing their batting display. They kept losing wickets in the middle overs and did not make the most of their batting resources. With the ball, too, their plans left a bit to be desired. The ploy to hold Ellis back also did not quite work, especially as the rest of the bowlers came in for some punishment. They have now lost two in a row, and will need to dust themselves off before hosting the Melbourne Stars on Monday.
Sam Harper, Player of the Match: It was nice to get a few away and to get a win for the boys. I needed to get the job done tonight. (On the run-out) It is the worst feeling along with dropping a catch. I actually felt I was batting well so just had to keep trusting my game. We won't take anything for granted and we are looking forward to Adelaide. Guptill was amazing and it was great to see him get stuck in at the top.
Ellis to bowl out

length outside off stump. Sutherland continues swinging like a rusty gate and only swats away a few flies in the process
Over the wicket now
safe! Full delivery on middle and leg stump. Sutherland has a slog at it and mistimes it badly. Fortunately for him, it lands between the retreating extra cover and the advancing long off
full and darted across the batter way outside off stump. Sutherland swishes and misses but the umpire has no qualms in calling it a wide
8 runs needed now. Can the Renegades seal the deal in this over? David back into the attack. He will bowl from around the wicket
back of a length delivery on middle and leg stump. Wells opens up his stance and heaves it over mid wicket for a couple of runs. That one plugged in the outfield quite significantly

sharp bumper aimed at the batter. Sutherland has a wild swing at it and is very late on the stroke. That actually grazed the top of his helmet, according to Snicko
Sutherland in now
no he can't! Back of a length delivery outside off stump that rushes Harper. He looks to heave it over mid wicket but the extra pace means that he splices it towards mid on, where David backpedals and completes a smart catch. What a knock this has been, though! Simply stunning!
So, Harper manages to retain strike. 11 needed for the win, and 11 needed for his maiden ton in BBL cricket. Can he get there?
short delivery outside off stump. Harper waits in his crease and cuts it towards deep cover point for a single
four more! Length outside off stump and that much width is always asking for trouble. Harper gives it the lot and scythes it over extra cover
this just keeps getting better! Back of a length delivery on leg stump. Harper picks up the length in a flash, and launches it a mile over the deep square leg fence
This is also Harper's highest score in the BBL now
slower bumper that goes awry and bounces way over the batter's head. Left alone by Harper and called a wide by the umpire
Tautoru: "That dropped catch off Harper - that's the game right there." -- That seems to have just deflated the Hurricanes
Harper continues on his merry way! Full and slanted across outside off stump. Harper reaches out for it and carves it over extra cover
Less than run-a-ball needed now. 28 off 27
six more! Length and down the leg side. Harper uses the pace on offer and whips it over deep backward square leg
