Smart stats

  • Bangladesh reached the finals of a multi-nation tournament for only the second time. In their only previous final, in a home tri-nation tournament in 2009, they lost by two wickets to Sri Lanka after having reduced them to 6 for 5.
  • Bangladesh's win is only their third against Sri Lanka and their second against a Test-playing team in this tournament. The last time Bangladesh beat two Test-playing nations in a single tournament was in the 2007 World Cup when they defeated India and South Africa.
  • Sri Lanka failed to qualify for the final of the Asia Cup for the first time. It is also the eighth time in Asia and the second time in multi-team tournaments in the subcontinent that Sri Lanka have failed to win a single match.
  • Shakib Al Hasan's half-century is his 24th in ODIs and his third against Sri Lanka. His strike-rate of 121.73 is his fourth-highest for a fifty-plus score.
  • Tamim Iqbal scored his third consecutive half-century of the tournament and became only the third Bangladesh batsman, after Mohammad Ashraful and Shahriar Nafees, to score three consecutive fifties in an ODI series.
  • The 76-run stand between Shakib and Tamim is the fifth-highest fourth-wicket stand for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka. Shakib has been involved in three of the top five partnerships.
  • The 88-run stand between Chamara Kapugedera and Lahiru Thrimanne is the fourth-highest fourth-wicket stand for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh made it to the final of the Asia Cup, defying pre-tournament expectations with consecutive victories against their more fancied neighbours. It was only the second time they had reached the finals of a one-day tournament. The bowlers restricted Sri Lanka to 232, but rain siphoned off ten overs and reduced the target to 212. The increased asking-rate, 5.30 an over, gave both teams a chance, but enterprising batting by Tamim Iqbal on a spiced-up pitch gave their chase a kickstart. The Bangladesh middle order withstood the pressure and gave the expectant crowd a reason to show up in similar numbers for the final, on Thursday.

Nasir Hossain proved once again why he is the find of the season for Bangladesh and Tamim put the farce of his earlier non-selection to rest. Nasir's calm half-century partnership with Mahmudullah ensured Bangladesh did not implode in the rush for a quick finish. The sea of green jerseys in the crowd were rewarded for staying in their seats even as Sri Lanka clawed back. Many clasped their hands in prayer once Bangladesh lost their fifth wicket, Shakib Al Hasan, but the temperament of the sixth-wicket pair showed why Bangladesh could start the finals not as underdogs, but contenders. India, waiting on the result of this game, will be headed home despite a better net run-rate because they lost to Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka were pegged back at the very beginning, when another Hossain, Nazmul, coming in for the injured Shafiul Islam, nipped out three top-order wickets. The middle order, led by Chamara Kapugedera, gave the innings some respectability, but Sri Lanka were not able to post a challenging score on a ground on which two big chases had already been completed in the tournament.

A mid-innings downpour gave the pitch the kind of zip missing during the afternoon. Lasith Malinga tested the top order with bouncers that fizzed past the helmet, while Nuwan Kulasekara got the ball to swerve in to the right-handers to castle Nazimuddin and flummox the captain Mushfiqur Rahim.

Bangladesh were three down for 40, but the passage of play was punctuated by some blistering strokeplay by Tamim. His balance and follow-through were exemplary, especially in his driving through the off side. Mahela Jayawardene tried to plug that gap with a short point, and later with two fielders up close at cover and extra cover, but Tamim was not deterred. He lofted one over the covers and then whipped consecutive boundaries through midwicket, showing his class on both sides of the wicket.

Shakib, after passing a tough test against some short bowling, settled in and crashed Suranga Lakmal for three consecutive boundaries through the off side. Tamim reached his half-century with a clip for four off Farveez Maharoof, and his pleasing strokeplay won the applause of the country's premier Sheikh Hasina, also in attendance. He was dropped by Sachitra Senanayake, after lobbing a simple chance back to the bowler, but Senanayake finally got his man when an uppish slash was taken at point. Tamim walked back to a hush from the expectant crowd, with their hopes pinned on Shakib.

Shakib's battle with Senanayake was a compelling one. Shakib got on top of him initially with boundaries over extra cover, but once the bowler shortened his length, Shakib looked edgy. Unsure of the bounce, he stabbed at two consecutive deliveries and nearly lobbed both for catches. Senanayake got one to skid through and trapped him in front of leg stump to give Sri Lanka hope, with the hosts still 77 runs adrift.

Sri Lanka were guilty of easing the pressure on the batsmen by feeding them balls full on the pads, which were clipped away to fine leg. Nasir and Mahmudullah kept out the inswinging yorkers, did not panic when they played the ball to the fielders, and calmly picked up singles. Tillakaratne Dilshan was brought on after the quicks failed to take wickets, but the pair didn't change their approach. A firm push by Nasir was parried by mid-on to the boundary, leading to wild celebrations and a victory lap.

The win was set up by Nazmul, who removed the power trio of Jayawardene, Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara. Jayawardene missed a straight one, Dilshan chopped a delivery onto his stumps and Sangakkara spooned a catch to extra cover, bringing an end to an indifferent season with the bat for him.

Bangladesh came out with a sense of purpose, fielding with intent after winning the toss. They were aided by a surface which, though not the same used for the India-Pakistan game, appeared slower and suited their crop of bowlers. The medium-pacers bowled several slower deliveries to tighten the noose on the run-rate.

Kapugedera and Lahiru Thirimanne added 88 for the fourth wicket, but one of them needed to bat through the innings to set a competitive target. Upul Tharanga made a breezy 48*, but not for the first time since his demotion, he had to repair the damage done upfront, again raising questions about the structure of the batting line-up.

Kapugedera, under pressure to keep his place, made good use of his promotion, using his feet to the spinners. A stroke of luck, though, gave Bangladesh the breakthrough when Thirimanne missed a nudge off Abdur Razzak and was stumped after the ball deflected off Mushfiqur's pads onto the stumps.

Tharanga's arrival perked up the scoring, as he punished a wayward Shahadat Hossain for three quick boundaries. Kapugedera managed a face-saving half-century, but his innings was cut short by a sharp reflex-catch by Shakib at extra cover. Shakib struck with the ball soon after, getting two wickets. Boundaries by the lower order pushed Sri Lanka to 232, but one could sense that was always going to be inadequate.

It ended a mixed season for a travel-weary Sri Lanka, following the highs of Australia. Not too long ago, India were in their hotel rooms in Brisbane, hoping for a Sri Lankan defeat to push them into the CB Series finals. This time, in a hotel not far from the ground, they were ironically hoping for a Sri Lankan win. There were no back-door entries for a team which has suffered its worst away season in recent history.

Bangladesh 126 23 0 41/3 (8 overs) 18/1 (4 overs) 7/0 (1.1 overs) DNP 0/7

BD is still a team without teeth. How many times they have beaten black and blue? just that they beat 2 test playing teams does not make them any wonder. They are not in the ring of calibre of Aus,SA,Ind,Pak,Eng, SL,WI and NZ. The test status is still a question for them. 1 day team is still the same calibre except this series. Why should India team be cornered for fantage. when failures around the world. All teams has home advantage, Look Aus, Eng, WI,SA. Likewise India also has it. So look into your plate which has plenty in it, dont look into other's plate which has little in them. BD is a still a nut's team and they are no better than before. Tigers without teeth LOL

sri lANKA IS THE BEST...

Bangladesh played well. But, there should be at least two matches against each team in the Asia Cup. It will not be too many since 4C2*2=12 matches before the final. In CB Series in Australia, there were 4 matches against each team. This will really show which are the two best teams to fight in the final of the Asia Cup. In the current case, one bad day (may be even couple of bad moves) will not allow good team to progress. There is simply no chance of a comeback (similar to World Cup in West Indies).

@sportsmanspirit But if Sachin threw away his wicket so that those down the order could get, if they also lost their wickets cheaply and India snailed to reach some 250-260 odd for 8 or 9, then everybody will be again after Sachin for throwing away his wicket too early. Fact is that Bangladesh bowled with lot of discipline in this entire series.

@ Bruisers U r bruised so badly it seems. It was SL who lost australia 4-0 in the test seiries all by innings, and to Eng by 4-0 . wow what a record yaaar. lets say it like this, in 1999 it was australia who beat india rather easily at finals yaar.

Check out these stats and decide who are the flat track bullies. This is a highlight of Sri Lankas performance outside home in the past 15 years. SL in SA(1997/98) SA 2-0. SL in SA(2000/01) SA 2-0. SL in SA(2002/03) SA 2-0. SL in SA(20011/12) SA 2-1. SL in Aus(1995/96) Aus 3-0. SL in Aus(2004) Aus 1-0. SL in Aus(2007/08) Aus 2-0. SL in Eng(2011) Eng 1-0. SL in Eng(2002) Eng 2-0. @Hewy123 - India got series thumping from SA??? Dude wake up.. LOL. Seriously are you in dreams or what..! It was SRI LANKA who got it!!! You have shown yourself who the bright guy is among us. And about the consecutive WC finals fact.. Let's put it this way- SL have lost two consecutive finals COMPREHENSIVELY.. Their fans seem to be happy about their team's GREAT achievement of making it to WC finals.. I know its a GREAT achievement for minnows but honestly you got to move on from the past.. Even Kenya don't boast about making it to the semifinals of 2003 WC anymore....

Posted by Don_Simon on (March 22, 2012, 3:17 GMT)

@samincolumbia: You're stating that SL are the new minnows? I seriously doubt that.Did you watch what happened in AUS during the last few months?

Posted by kristee on (March 22, 2012, 2:23 GMT)

While Tendulkar's, Jayawardane's or Ponting's centuries in the WC were okay, that's not the case with the former's century in this AC. A batter let down by other batters; if that was the case with those in the WC, here the batter himself was blocking other batters more suited for the occasion. Anyway BD was too good on that day for him and his side, and I hope they continue their good work.

Posted by kristee on (March 22, 2012, 2:01 GMT)

I'd join issue with the smug delusion typified by 'we pulverized the best bowling attack' or 'we were the best against Oz' ! I can only say labels mislead. Neither Oz 03 nor this Pak side is that formidable. Either is characterized by some makeshift stuff. One precipitated by injuries, and the other bans. While Bitchell, Williams, Cheema or Riaz doesn't look good enough, Gillespie or Gul can only be described as support bowlers. Ajmal is class but was missing enough support. BD may be overawed by the big occasion, but sufficient exposure can change things. Hope BD surprise once more!

Go Bangladesh - fantastic to see this team doing so well, they are an inspiration to other countries who are trying to improve their cricket-playing standards. I am full of admiration for this team and the country they are from, and look forward to seeing them playing tetsts one day - from an Aussie supporter.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 23:12 GMT)

for the first time i have ever seen the bangladesh cricket team is doing very well and fantastic. i also want to say that they are doing some good job very continuously. the first match they lost against pakistan was not a big trouble which they could win and the match was very close to them and they also have shown their ability and strength in next two matches. because of allover performance i'll hope them to become as a champion team by winning the last and final match against pakistan today. if they'll do so nothing will be surprising. now our tigers are very matured and stronger than ever and all of them are hunting matches together............. lots of love to the TIGERS.

@Dravid_Gravitas, Sachin will stop playing when he realizes that he is not fit to play just like Dravid did. Looks like you are not a kind of person who appreciates the player's passion so just be calm and wait until that player retires.

Posted by kandykolla on (March 21, 2012, 22:29 GMT)

@ Tamoor002- Thanks a lot mate ! you are the only one, single handedly to appreciate our team apart from us !! We know our cricketers than anyone ! They`ll deliver at the right time and right place if it`s really necessary !!

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 22:11 GMT)

Anyways guys better team wins ......India showed in this tournament that they have very poor bowling attack ,...And MSd is like always stiking to players he want ......But indians also showed their batting strenght against Pakistan who have best bowling attack in world ......and Srilanka ......They had a bad day against bangladesh who playes very good and confidently ......I felt only if srilanka had played better cricket ....this tournament would have been more intersting ....although now it is very intersting ....hoping for bangladesh to win ....cuz they played very good ......And as a indian fan i'm very happy .....cuz india beat pakistan in historic chase ...and beat srilanka.....and had only a bad day who cares :) but we need to improve our bowling

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 21:54 GMT)

India should not be playing TESTS abroad with teams such as Australia, England and Pakistan. These recent whitewashes by England and Australia are not good for the game. Most grounds were empty in Australia during tests, with India. I think India should play more tests among SL, BD,ZIM, WI,NZ, KEN, NED etc, in the sub continent, on flat tracks. Let the big boys play on faster and bouncy tracks.

Posted by binojpeter on (March 21, 2012, 21:21 GMT)

@Dravid_Gravitas Part of the centuries made by all batsmen is going to be in vain. Only 14 of the 49 centuries made by Sachin was in vain (around 28%). Your own hero Dravid's 4 out of 12 centuries were in vain (33%) That is life. Lot depends on how your bowlers bowl and your captain's tactics, opposition team's potential and form etc. Give credit to Bangladesh bowling, they consistently restricted all the 3 teams. We actually scored better among the others.

Posted by binojpeter on (March 21, 2012, 21:12 GMT)

@Surjith Bhaskar If that is the case, Ricky Ponting should be blamed for the century in the WC quarter final against us for slow scoring, Mahela Jayawardane should be blamed for century in the WC final against us. Why pick Sachin alone? You speak as if none of the centuries made by any other player has gone in vain. That is not fair. Fact is that Bangladesh bowled with lot of discipline in this series. Maybe they learnt a lot from BPL. When the opposition chase down the score, we will all say we could have scored 20-30 runs more.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 20:01 GMT)

I want to say something about that kind of people whose who comments against BD. How long BD are playing in International Cricket??? If i compare to others countries whose who are playing in the Asia-Cup,they played in International Cricket before born of BD and i strongly believe that within 2020 BD will win World-Cup,no doubt about that,,,

@ Muhammad Mukarrum: Because Bangladesh won the head to head match against India so Bangladesh quailfy for Final on equal points scenario. Anyhow Read the Rules of Asia Cup Below: In the event of teams finishing on equal points, the right to play in the final match or series will be determined as follows: * The team with the most number of wins. * If still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins. * If still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points. * If still equal, the team with the highest net run rate

Congratulation to Bangladesh on reaching in Final by kicking out India and Srilanka (WC and Last Asia Cup Finalist Teams) from Asia Cup 2012, a huge huge improvement in Bangladesh team. I'm from Pakistan but very much fan of Shakib Al Hassan & Bangladesh team. Best of Luck to Bangladesh team in future also.

I am a Pakistani fan but our Bangadeshi brother deserve this cup more. Well played throughout the series. Good luck on the final tomorrow to both teams! on the side note.. Amazing innings by Kholi against Pakistan.. he was amazing with the bat but dude he needs to be more humble too much jumping around.. all the great players sachin, Younis are all so humble and relaxed when scoring, thats what makes a lengend. He needs to grow up soon to be more respected and continuing to perform.

bpl has changed the tigers..............if one more bpl take place in bd ...............i bliv no asian country wil b able to touch upon those tigers....they r bcuming hungry angry tigers!!!!!

Posted by Zarin on (March 21, 2012, 18:26 GMT)

@Muhammad Mukarrum_though India & BD both have same points, but in head-to-head BD deafeted India. thats why BD goes to final. here runrate doesn't matter. hope u get ur answer..

Posted by Zarin on (March 21, 2012, 18:20 GMT)

Everyone is talking about Tamim and Sakib. I also like them, but I think Nasir & Ryad played really well at the end and without their partnership it would have been difficult for BD to win. Because after this two batsman, the bowlers would come to bat and under pressure they might not play well. Whtever, very happy to see BD in Final and want to see great match....

Posted by Mr_Force on (March 21, 2012, 18:12 GMT)

Well if Lanka fans are happy that they lost Coz India was gonna be kicked out this is not fair, but I see Indians are also blaming Lanka that they didn't play good enough, just to make you guys wake up, if you leave your faith on Some one else hand, than you shouldn't complain, if India was the best in tourney than they should be playing finals not BD vs Pak? Time to wake Up and pack your bags, next time wRite your own destiny so you don't have To blame others.

Sachin, for the sake of his meaningless century, gifted the finals to Bangladesh. To their credit, Bangladesh played as a team. Every Bangla player played to win the match, not to reach his 50 or 100.

Bangladesh will win the final tomorrow against Pakistan..........! The Bangladeshi hunting tigers are now want to won their first Asia cup trophy by beating the Pakistan.............. ! there is any confusion for any one????????.......................

Can anybody tell me how Bangladesh reached in Final? Despite of that India has greater run rate than Bangladesh?? I am waiting reply

Posted by T.R.GHANCHI on (March 21, 2012, 16:29 GMT)

First of all, Well done BD! You guys thoroughly deserve to be in the final. Secondly, team india did play very well against Pakistan and as a Pakistani, I wanted India to be in the final with Pakistan. I wish every team would have played against each other twice.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 16:21 GMT)

Bangladesh reached the finals of a multi-nation tournament for only the second time. In their only previous final, in a home tri-nation tournament in 2009, they lost by two wickets to Sri Lanka after having reduced them to 6 for 5.

it is nice effort by bangladesh but the fact is that asia cup belongs to Pakistan. Wait and see :-) After reaching bd in finals now it has been more easy for pakistan

well its certainly not a fact tht "when ever sachin scores 100 india loses" but "when ever Kohli plays miraculously well india goes out of the tournament"...it already happened twice in kohli's short career :)

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 15:20 GMT)

The Tigers really deserved a place in the Final. India should improve their bowling to play at the international level.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 15:15 GMT)

Flat track bullies won against Pakistan on flattest track possible, whats the big deal about it?? Give us balanced tracks, Pakistan will blow away Indian lineup simple equation! So stop crying & be appreciative to other nations as their teams are also playing for their national pride. Good luck to Bangladesh though as a Pakistan fan I want my team to win but I must admit Bangladesh deserve this Asia Cup too and Pakistanis will appreciate Bangladesh..

Congratulations to Bangladesh Team. Love the comments of the Indians, Pakistanis and Srilankans who has sporting spirit and are commending our team. we are a sporting nation and we love such applause as we love the spirit of cricket and love the people who honor it.

I`m not saying that I`m happy that we lost to Bangladesh, but as a Sri Lankan we have to take the result as a happy/jolly way, how ???? Eventhough if we won the match we are not going to play the finals so, It`s better to give the chance for a good friend than "SOMEONE ELSE" !!!!!!!!!!!! All the best for the finals !

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 14:43 GMT)

In Sri Lanka there was a player in the 1990`s ( I forgot his name ! ), Whe he get out below 10 Sri Lanka would definitely win the match, and if he gets out for a duck (0), that`s a 100% Lankan victory fo sure, No point getting centuries and losing the match and kicked out of the tournament . If you find players like that, you can still win matches atleast people like him have something called "luck" !! Now who was that player ??? Errrrrrrr..... Can`t remember his name !!!

Posted by The_bowlers_Holding on (March 21, 2012, 14:29 GMT)

I have noticed the slating of "minnows Sri Lanka" by certain posters look at the demographics of population: India 1200 million, Pakistan 177 million, Bangladesh 161 million and Sri Lanka 20 million. The fact they have competed against such overwhelming odds for so long should be credit to Sri Lanka should it not. India should realistically win every match they play with such overwhelming odds in ther favour (circa 7 times pop of Pak and Bang and 60 times the pop of SL).

Posted by Dravid_Pujara_Gravitas on (March 21, 2012, 14:23 GMT)

When will India emerge out of the eclipse that is Sachin? His 100th international century will be remembered as the most infamous and unpopular century that cost India not only the match but also a berth in the finals of Asia Cup 2012.

Posted by samincolumbia on (March 21, 2012, 14:04 GMT)

What happened to Jayawardene's captaincy skills? LOL...Over-rated just like the SL team!! It's official now...SL are the new minnows.

Posted by truth1 on (March 21, 2012, 13:50 GMT)

Indian brothers shouldn't feel so much for not making it to finals as they played so well in this tournament and in Austaralia.Remember only one team can win the tournament though all teams aspire to do that. While Kohli's recent 2 great innings are commendable but Indian media/ fans shouldn't put too much pressure on him. Its by no means unusual to have performances like that, even recently: Kevin Obrien did the same thing against England in WC, Razzaq recently did against SA, SA chased India's 300+ total in WC and Eng levelled. While not taking it away from Kohli, Pakistan employed ridiculously defensive field set up with no close in fielders but it won't always be like that.Pakistan never attacked him. Anyway he is a great prospect for future and let him develop naturally. He will sure be tested in Test matches like all other players.Good luck to both BD and Pak for finals.

THIS IS USELESS TOURNAMENT WHERE BOWLING FIRST IS BIGGEST ADVANTAGE..TEAM WHO BAT 1ST FINDS IT DIFFICULT TO HIT BIG SHOTS BECAUSE PITCH BECOMES DRY IN DAYTIME AND SUDDENLY WHEN BATTING SECOND IT BECOMES FLAT AS CEMENT PITCH WHERE EVEN NAMIBIA CAN BEAT AUSTRALIA IF THEY KEEP WICKETS IN HAND FOR FIRST 10 OVERS..SO MANTRA IS JUST WIN THE TOSS AND BOWL FIRST JUST WHAT BANGLADESH IS DOING ....EVEN THEY NEARLY CHASED DOWN 262 IN FIRST ODI THANKS TO LOWER ODER THEY THREW IT AWAY..THIS PITCH IS NOT INTERNATIONAL STANDARD PITCH..ALL MATCHES COULD HAVE PLAY IN DAY TIME ..MARK MY WORLDS IF BANGLA WIN TOSS IN FINALS AND IF THEY KEEP PAK UNDER 300 OR JUST ABOUVE THEN THEY STILL HAVE MORE THAN 80% CHANCE WINNING ASIA CUP..EVEN NON PERFORMING ROHIT SHARMA PLAYED GOOD INNING UNDER LIGHTS ..LOL..

@Bruisers - India have just been dumped out early of the second tournament in a row (after getting series thumpings from England and SA) and now you're labelling other teams as "minnows". Minnows don't reach consecutive world cup finals, do they? You're undoubtedly very bright...

We do not want to involve in the awkward discussions rather involve in the game of cricket. We are in the way of winning the crown which will be worn by the TEAM BD by defeating PAKISTAN INSHALLAH. Good Luck BD. GET GOING

I read a few comments, and honestly it's sad how some of you are looking down on the finalists. A piece of advice to you: Instead of wasting time here, try to find where SL and IND did wrong. They are great teams(probably the best, just not in recent times) but this tournament they just didn't show it.

Also to people who are saying about home advantage/h2h rule being ridiculous, I think this rule has been going on for a long time, would you be complaining if your team went through? Both the finalists played better than the other 2 teams, and seeing the matches, it is easy to say it's definitely not luck that put them through, rather consistency and competitive natures did.

Now, being a Bangladeshi, I would love BD to win, but hey, PAK is powerful side, so gl to both the teams.

Lastly, I read some1 here saying that IND lost deliberately to BD to get Sachin his 100th century. Now, 290 is a massive score for any team to chase down..just admit BD played better that day.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 13:08 GMT)

On retrospect why didn't India pushed for a bonus point against Pak just as they did against SL in CB series? Probably that did it for the team again. They might have thought that it will easy for SL against BD. Lesson to be learnt: Always push for the bonus point!

Posted by wonderstar1 on (March 21, 2012, 12:55 GMT)

lol..@all SL Fans. It was never a surprise that Ban wud beat SL. as SL are the new minnows of the asian teams. Instead Srilanka must invite Ireland and Bermuda and try to win in their own soil. At this rate, Its difficult even to beat Ireland for them. Still their fans are happy and think they r the best, actually when they r the worst side to have played on this Asia cup and on top of that they r happy abt other team elimination. wow. No wonder they got beaten by India everywhere and their cricket can never improve and they can only beg at BCCI and IPL.@James Anderson.. Just look at ur own team. They r even struggling to beat WI which is lower than SL and NZ. Even India managed to beat WI comprehensively on their home soil.

Its very good to see that not only we Bangladeshis and Pakistanis are against india but Srilankans are also against them. That will make our brotherhood more strong

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 12:49 GMT)

@gozmuz, losing to Bangladesh was a strategic retreat? This is the problem of India in general. Who is sachin to give away a match like that to make him feel comfortable. For those who are commenting against me must also first comment what is their first priority Country or a "player." Can you guys find a single Australian who says Ricky Ponting can achieve a record by losing one match and you have seen what they have done with Ponting. What would have our selectors done had ponting been in our team. He will retire at his will and be a burden. I am not a sachin hater. But it is very obvious if you are patriotic to see that he should not have batted so slowly. No point in saying Pakistan scored less. India could have gotten more and that is what put us out of Asia Cup. If this does not convince you then you guys place Sachin above your country, which sadly is the truth. From an Indian

Bangladesh beat Srilanka and India because bangladesh cricket team have already achived the capacity,so nobody should doubt on their capacity and also the pitch was same for the 4 teams so there is no way to make a complain against the pitches and this is the fact that the team who play well whole the match that team will win at the end of the game.So bangladesh did.bad luck for Srilanka and India and goodluck for my country Bangladesh.

Posted by qpsk123 on (March 21, 2012, 12:39 GMT)

Indian fans too much worried about this match. Teams should make into finals by themselves. others can not do that. Bangladesh achieved by their hard working effort. therefore they deserve that. Indians who blame SL for loss should have tried to take the bonus point win against pakistan.

My reply to all Bangladeshis, we have two 50 over world cups and 1 twenty 20 world cups. What have you got. First of all try to win one and then you comment. Anyways you were all celebrating like you have won world cup; in your dreams may be. We were let down by the selfish attitude of one individual who placed his personal goal in front of maximum runs that he should have got. Anyways all Indians are not as biased as you guys are and there are many friends of mine who are rooting for Bangladesh as well. One success does not make one a champion. Wait till both teams meet again, then if you have the guts I am challenging all of you to come and comment in this forum.

as a Sri lankan fan i am very disappointed about our team results.but Bangladesh did very well throughout the series to reach the finals.Hats off to Bangladeshis. But it shows other Asian countries are doing well through their experience. So I would like to see, at least two more Asian countries(as placed in international rankings-eg: Afaghanistan,Nepal,UAE,Hong Kong,Papua New Gunea,Oman) getting involved in future Asia cups.I seriously think such involvement will improve other cricket playing nations in Asia.

Posted by Happy_AusBang on (March 21, 2012, 12:20 GMT)

salmanagha, it will be a good contest then, Bangladesh with three good players and Pakistan with three good players only (Saeed Ajmal, Younus Khan and Mohammed Hafeez). I have a feeling Pakistan will be under pressure. Bangladesh should have won last time too, but this time they will make sure inshallah.

And we should not forget we have to go a long way before we can be considered equal with the big3 nations of the subcontinent. We should not have the attitude we hate (arrogance). We'll be a cricket giant soon

@Bruisers, the only minnows are the ones who keep getting whitewashed every time they step out of the flat tracks of their home. Maybe India should play against Afghanistan and Ireland. They will teach you some discipline and humility which will be good preparation for playing against Zimbabwe. Then India can slowly move up the ranks, back into top flight cricket without cheapening it further.

@Birdz_eye, Hello please don't make senseless comments, you said India won against Pakistan on flattest of wickets, my friend all the matches are played in a single ground if the wicket is flat for us then it is same for everyone. Don't forget that you were whitewashed by England in more flatter wicket. Mate, no matter whatever the wicket is end of the day you need to bat well and bowl well in order to win. One more thing your so called strong bowling unit could not defend even 329 and were thrashed in 48.5 overs. So stop writing nonsense about our bowling.

Asia Cup is sponsored by Indian companies. India was probably the best team in the tournament and still didn't make it to the finals. Why so much hate from all the other sub-continent fans? Well, that's Asia. Irrational and can never work together and so will never be able to rise in the world map. Grow up, people..!

With this new breed of players and the confidence that the team will get from their victories over Sri Lanka & India and also their near victory against Pakistan, Bangadeshi cricket will never be the same again. With new levels of talent and confidence they will be ready to take on the world and the best in the world. soon i expect them to see among the better teams in the rankings chart.

Its true that BD played exceptionally well in Asia Cup. But pls. remember that in none of the matches they batted first. Its interesting to see if they bat first in final will they withstand Gul/Cheema/Ajmal & Co. In such a case it will be totally an one sided match.

Posted by Sports4Youth on (March 21, 2012, 11:14 GMT)

Its a first for Bangladesh. Obviously a great moment for Bangladesh. Also the Bangladeshi fans are very passionaate about their cricket. Frankly speaking i have come to really admire the fans, because in the past few months they faced a lot of failures and yet they kept backing thieir team. It was great to see a packed house in all their matches. I think more than the team it is the fans that deserve this victory and a game in the finals. On this note i personally feel that the bangladeshi team and their fans deserve to win in the finals. I wish them all the best for the finals with a hope that this time their joy will be completed with an Asia Cup victory.

India deserved to be qualified for the final against Pakisthan, due to better NRR than Bangladesh. When two teams obtain same points, this rule of Asia Cup of qualifying the winner in the leagus match is not justified, when in the league stage each of the four teams plays others only once. This rule is old fashiuoned after invention f NRR/other rankings but reluctantly can be accepted in Commonwealth Bank Series(Australia) as the three teams played each other four times in the league stage.

Well it doesn't matter whether India,Pakistan or Sri Lanka are going to win the Asia cup.Who cares. We all have won the cup more than once.Isn't is better to enjoy the resurgence of new looking BD team who were underpinned all the time since they got their test status.BD has to maintain this level of performance and they shouldn't let it off to be a soda bottle effect whether they win or loose the finals.Hope it will be a cracker and if England can beat Pakistan 3 in a row, why not BD on their home soil. All the best BD and PAK for a thrilling final. From a SL fan.

Posted by bigwonder on (March 21, 2012, 10:25 GMT)

@cricshimla, you sound like a pakistani fan and not SL. There also appears to be a trend. Every time Kohli scores a century to keep India's hope alive, SL does something to kick India out of tournament. Its also strange to see India and SL loose against Bangladesh right after their to Australia? Too much cricket perhaps?

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 10:24 GMT)

It would be great to see BD cricketers come up the ranks and some of them have great talent. So India suffered because they effectively lost 1 match out of 3 and in turn actually beat two strong teams comprehensively what if net run rate was counted instead of head to head then BD would have been out, would you have been making all these comments then. Its just the rub of the green. All teams go through transition Pakistan went through it when they lost matches by the dozen, so did Australia, India enjoyed a decent run but now the bowling is weak, hell West Indies has been on the wrong side for a long long time, but we still love them because we love the sport. Its very easy to criticize but very tough to appreciate and i do appreciate cricketers from all countries, look beyond the religion and jealousy which you see here (goes out to the Indians as well) and concentrate on cricket the game we love

Posted by Harmony111 on (March 21, 2012, 9:57 GMT)

The more you look at it the more you become convinced that BD are becoming a very good side now. They may still have certain limitations but which team is perfect in the current scenario? Eng lost 5-0 in India. India lost in the CB series. SL never really win anything and are actually the new minnows. Pak lost 4-0 to Eng. Oz won the CB series but that was at home and WI are givin them a very tough fight at home proving that Oz too can win only at home. NZ lost 4-1 to BD and SA are the perennial chokers of the game. Lets hope that BD are abele to carry on with this new found strength and don't become lazy after the Asia Cup. If I was Pakistan then I would be very very wary of this BD team and actually I would put my money on BD to win the Final since they have shown they can restrict teasm to about 250 and can chase totals around 300. They are yet to show if they can defend a total but since it is Pak I would imagine that Pak too would be very nervous of chasing 240+ in a final. BD BD!!

Stop attacking each others ego on whose confidant and who's humble. You need a balance of both fire and ice to be a successful team and they have to tick at the right time like Bangladesh did yesterday. Brilliant cricket and it is great that Asia have lift up a level. After India has won the World Cup and reach to number one in the world, I have seen a revolution comeback from the Asians. Not only did Pakistan whitewashed England in a series, but Sri Lanka also won the last two games in a row against The Proteas in South Africa and has beaten The Aussies 4 times in their backyard in the Common Wealth Bank Series. Last year in East Londen, South Africa on the 19th of April, Ive seen a Bangladesh A side took on a South Africa A team with the likes of Rudolph, Bosman, Philander ect. Mohammad Ashraful scored 118 not out and took Vernon Philander's deliveries out of the Buffalo Park numerous times. I then realized it won't be long before Bangladesh will reach the Asian's top level.

I think, this ASIA CUP is the most well organized and well competitive in the ASIA CUP history. Every team joined with their full-power. However, Bangladesh proved their extraordinary team spirit to outperform current world cup champion and runner up team. The gist of the passage of this tournament is Bangladeshis team spirit and Sachin`s century of century. I don`t know how other players showed the excuse of field condition . I think Indian, Pakistan and SL are more wll-known about the condition than Bangladeshis as you can see the highest run makers and wicket takers of this tournament are from those team rather than Bangladeshis. Actually, I see, Bangladeshis are playing from their heart which is the key secret of their success.

Although BPL has uplift BD cricketer's confident, Indian IPL did not recognize BD cricketers and did not give opportunity to grow. Now the thing is clear that, BD cricket growing promptly and they will become one of the cricket super powers very soon.

Well Done Bangla Tigers. I guess in the end the deserving teams made it to the final of the Asia Cup and I'm expecting a good match tomorrow. As for India and Sri Lanka, the fact needs to be accepted that they were not the best in the tournament and hence they could not make it to the final. A special note for Indian fans, these one one matches wont do the job, ask your team to have a full series with us on either their soil or ours or any neutral soil. What is India so afraid of if they are a good team they should simply play a series against us. But sigh they can only play IPLs and Cricket at home. Anyhow cheers, Pakistan will be ready anytime for a series.

Its Bangladesh vs SL thread & arrogant Indians are crying for their place in final just accept it India were not good enough to play finals. Congrats to BD for putting up an impressive show a couple of months ago I saw in Pakistan vs BD series Indian Fans were jumping in to say BD should go back and play associates funny how tables are turned by BD Kids. I was hoping to have Indian in finals just to return the favors back as with this current Indian bowling lineup I am sure even 400 can be chased easily. Flat track bullies won against Pakistan on flattest track possible what the big deal about it?? Give us green or Fast tracks, Pakistan will blow away Indian lineup simple equation! So stop crying & be appreciative to other nations as their teams are also playing for their national pride. Good luck to Bangladesh though as Pakistan fan I want my team to win but I must admit Bangladesh deserve this Asia Cup more.

Damn !! D/L method !! Decreasing 10 overs but deceased only 20 run!! Is this the correct ratio? Congratulation Bangladesh team for still winning. Goodluck for asia cup final.

Maybe India beat Pak in a one off game but Pak beat India on the whole both in the tournament and humility. Hatts off to u paks and BANG go win the cup with a Bang. The best two asian teams i ve seen so far in the series. Hope for a great Final.

Its heartening that BD has reached the final of Asia Cup. Congrats to BD. Reg. IND depending on other teams is partly due to their own faults as well as the schedule. How above IND playing SL in the last match of the CB series and BD in the last match of Asia Cup. IMO Sachin played according to situation v/s BD though many criticized him for slow. Pls. note that batting first is difficult and he had enormous pressure for 100th 100. On bowling IND did not had Zak, Nehra, Munaf, Bhajji, Yuvraj who featured in their WC triumph. On seeing the performance of Aswin its better to use Rahul Sharma. For SL fans who hate IND and describe IND as flat track bully, do remember that you are also spin/flat track bully. SL had not won a single test in AUS/IND whereas both these teams have won in SL. True during Sanath days SL had won matches v/s IND but not a single ODI series win in IND. All ENG ODIs r rain affected & in AUS odis IND did not fare that badly. I am IND fan &PAK fans' comments are gud.

Congrats to BD you deserve to be in the finals. (Hoping they win the Asia Cup!) Disappointed in the reaction of the SL fans. No sportsman spirit if you would rather your own team lose 3-0 that see India qualify. The Indian fan may be disappointed but atleast we beat our arch rivals Pakistan which is satisfying on its own. Btw lol those of you saying Virat is selfish for not taking India into the final on 2 occassions are idiotic. What else could have Kohli done infact without his performance in both series India did not even have hope.

I hope Bangladesh win the Asia cup ...

@ak_kamal For bonus point SL scored 188 so the run rate in 50 hours 3.76 The 1.25 of 3.76 = 1.25 * 3.76 =4.7 i.e if Pakistan score 189 runs before 40.1 hours he get bonus point. Pakistan score in 39.5 overs Pakistan run rate was 4.74 so get bonus point .......

We dnt want to win Asia Cup We have beaten Pakistan we chased the 300+ target less than 2 weeks this shows world crct that india are the champions no matter which pitch or which country we have chased the 330 trgt that is ENOUGH no matter winning the ASIA CUP let them keep or win PAK o BD

Sri Lanka & India out of finals due to beats by Bangladesh. Even this series defined as a league, this look like a knockout game because series only consist of 7 matches where 4 teams were participated. Bangladesh won the matches because they played on their home ground and its only the ground they have. Bangladesh know all good and bad spots of wicket. So they can easily fall other teams. If this series extended up to 2 or 3 grounds, the state of series would be changed. Sri Lanka started CB series with 3 consecutive loses. But they done well until final challenging Australia. As ACC is a main event in Asia, it should be more organizable than this much.

Iam daam sure BD team has ability to lift the Asia CUP,...But Pakistan Bowlers too have to bowl many loose deliveries, extras , has to set fielders in wrong places like India and Srilanka did ...... Will Pakistan do soo. May be they too

Bangladesh played well through out the series, they gave the hard time to pakistan and chased very well against india & srilanka. We have to appreciate the bangal tigers. India chased well against pakistan and we have to oblige them. But as pakistani we will always support pakistan to win every match and wish them goodluck for upcoming final. Lot prayers for paksitani team.

I am very disappointed by some of the statements especially critising sachin & Virat. Folks, go n ask players from all the teams what those achievements mean. Mishbah said he had never seen such an inning.scoring 100 100s is next to impossible.I agree that BD is no longer team of past but future. But these are still early days. wht i like the most is their spirit of BD team.for SL, they are playing too much of cricket without getting paid.Hope to c very good final. but i have a feeling that it will be one sided.

But I hope he will not be another Sachin who chaises his own records by betraying the whole nations cricket. Well played Kohli, B'desh and Pk's. We are always with you to see your performances which can put up the SA in world cricket.

ICC's head to head ruling is stupid in a tournament where the teams meet each other just once. But in a way, as an Indian fan, but also a Bengali, I am glad for Bangladesh! It would be terrific if Bangladesh win as it would be great for cricket too!

@indian fans if ul wanna go to finals, ul should play best cricket.u'll should hv won BD. dont shut at lankans.. INDIAN team always depend on othr teams..its again proved in this match also... even the commentators were saying this.. we can clearly say that the team who depends on other team is not a great team and they dont deserve to go to finals.. Go and tell ur players to play for ur country than to play fo thr own-selves.. they are the reason for this not lankans.. atlease here aftr play a great game and dnt depend on othrs..poor india...

Hmm have to agree Bangladesh is playing good cricket at the moment , lets see if they can keep it up in the long run.. i say this again sachin's slow century against Bangladesh cost us a spot in the final , don't blame our bowlers , its not easy to bowl on such lifeless tracks , even Pakistan with their strong attack failed to defend 330 against India

Posted by priceless1 on (March 21, 2012, 7:14 GMT)

Mahela's strategy of" keeping an attacking field all the time " clearly back fired y'day .BD players never looked for the singles ,they always looked for the big shots ,so Mahela's strategy of keeping too many fielders in side the ring through out the game really made things very easy for the BD players

The read plenty of comments acroos the Asian fans and thouroughy confused the way Sri lankan cricket follower believing at the moment they are quite happy to see sending India home rather than making bold and correct statement about their reeling teams.Pakistan and Bangladesh played very well and they are deserved to be in the Final,But what Sri lanka are played they deserved to be play agst the A side of International teams

It is really sad that after such a great performance Team India is out of the tournament !sachin is a great player ,but no player should be above the team ! I am sure and many will agree with me that loss to Bangladesh was due to Sachin,s slow batting to complete his 100th century which cost the match and tournament as well.

@adis26 i understand mate. The Aussies have always been the arrogant ones and the Indians/Sri Lankans/Pakis were always the humble ones. But after India got the Number 1 Test ranking, lots of Indian fans got arrogant. After the World Cup, it increased 10 fold. I remember looking at the comment section for the England series with almost every Indian fan confidently saying that England would get whitewashed, the English better not cry, etc. Then they got whitewashed. When the Aussie tour came along, the day before, you could see the exact same messages about Australia getting whitewashed, Australia will pay for the last tour, etc. I admit not all the Indian fans are arrogant, but the arrogant ones really make a bad name for you guys. Just look at some of the comments on this page. There are also Sri Lankan (rising) and Pakistani fans that are arrogant, but nowhere near the number India produces. Hope we get our humble fans back. Cheers

this is the first asia cup final sri lanka was unable to reach finals. We are four time winners. So there are no wonder of asia cup for us. I am happy that india was kicked out of finals. Whatever say by indians, it shows their pain through their comments. They are real oppertunitists who stabbed behind sake of brotherhood. Its better come home early and prepare against england. Because SL team is very tired after playing so much cricket..if you want a battle again we will meet in T20 world cup :)

Except India rest 3 countries were praying for a Bangladesh win in the last league match..Bagnaldesh wanted to qualify for the finals, Pakistan did not wanted to face India in the final & SL players are still having nightmares of the hobart match...It is good that BD won and qualified for finals But the series once again showed the consistecly of SL against India. They consistenly surrender to India irrespective of conditions. Anyways, all the best and wish an exciting final

Posted by Mohee.bd on (March 21, 2012, 6:57 GMT)

On BD vs. Ind match both Sachine and Kholi played for their record……………………… Sachine was for his 100 of 100 and Kholi was consecutive 3 internationals centuries/consecutive 3 centuries on the same field. That's why there were relatively slower rather than as usual. They also underestimated BD Boys capacity even though they showed their resistance against Pak. Though Ind Chased comfortably 329 targets against Pak; still they should think that there bowling attack is less potential than Pak so their total against BD was not enough and they sacrificed it for Sachine 100 which was a pathetic long pending issue for the whole Ind team. India came to Dhaka with 2 mission; 1st Sachine century and 2nd winning the Asia Cup; they thought that it hide Ind's terrible performance in AUS. So 1st mission is done and they should be happy for the won against Pak as its Bonus for them.

Pity SL fans. Thinks they can irritate indian fans and players by taking proud of their teams loss to BD. The point missing is india played bad cricket and SL played worst. both have to correct them if they need to keep up the pride. anyway I have booked the ticket for IPL to enjoy the cricket instead of whining about the other team's win/loss. Congrats BD for their effort to qualify for the final as a team. You comparatively have higher chance for getting the cup for the first time.Way to keep your head high in future. pls publish

Posted by eZoha on (March 21, 2012, 6:54 GMT)

I want to point out a few things. 1. Pakistan is by far the best team in Asia. They have a better win/loss ratio against India and Srilanka. In fact, they are one of the only three teams in International cricket to have positive win/loss ratio, other two teams being Australia and South Africa. 2. Commercialization and ego are blinding Indian fans and ruining Indian cricket. They really need a self review. Find good bowlers. 3. Srilankans were jaded in this tournament. They have good fast bowling all-rounders which sets them apart. They really should distribute the experienced batsmen in the line-up and not put all in the top. 4. BPL has helped, Nasir has improved balance, but still a long way to go for Bangladesh. In all three matches, they played too many risky shots, too many close calls. Batsmen should learn to play big innings without those percentage shots. Bowling is looking good, better than India and Srilanka. 5. Let's enjoy the final and hope it will be cracker of a game.

@rk_ks- replied your last line.Have you forgot 2007 world cup? Actually we love to pull down world cup champion .We can not enter but we can restrict to enter into World cup Final for other teams. But in Asia cup,we enter into final and we restrict to enter world cup champions.

Bangladesh played well and they get result in hand. It is possible to Bangladesh should be Champion on ASIA CUP-2012 at MIRPUR, Bangladesh. Bangladesh should be beat Pakistan on 22.03.2012 at MIRPUR. All are supporter of Bangladesh want these.

Posted by thegoodgame on (March 21, 2012, 6:43 GMT)

@Nisar_Awan_DXB why would Sachin want a 100 specifically against Bangladesh? he got out in 80's and 90's against West Indies, England, Australia - it would have been equally great - if not more - to get the hundred against any of them. you say the whole team played for his cause - how did bad bowling by the Indians help his cause? (which btw was the reason India lost inspite of a fairly decent score). Most cricketers retire at around 38 (Miandad, Steve Waugh, the list is long), Tendulkar is still 38 - so why does he need to prove that he has not expired? Is Bangladesh such a rotten team that one needs to be ashamed to lose to them? after all they are a test playing nation for some years now - and even hosted the world cup. Your post is completely irrational. India played great cricket in the Asia Cup - yes they lost a game - and that happens. And we applaud the young bangladeshi players for a very spirited show and wish them all the best in the finals! Lets enjoy the cricket!

I can not express my feelings by word. What a victory we have seen last night against lankans. Bd's played the best performance ever we seen. So why not they will win the final??? I hope in the month of independence tiger's will win asia cup against Pakistan. So go ahead bd cricket

I'm an Indian. Congratulations to Bangladesh for an excellent performance! Your team has won many hearts for its enthusiasm, self-confidence and the obvious desire to win! The team has improved so much in the last 1 year, that even on that basis alone, it deserves to be in the final. :-) Now, go Tigers, win the Asia Cup, and make it a true fairy tale.

India have their bowlers, and to some extent Sachin Tendulkar to blame for the loss to BD. (Of course, BD played very well too.) In the next match, Sachin seemed to be making amends, by trying his best to score quickly. I hope BCCI learns too, and pays more attention to grooming bowling talent and taking care of the existing talent (such as Zak, Varun Aaron, etc.)

Finally, congrats to Pakistan for reaching the finals too! I will be supporting both BD and Pak tomorrow, and I hope the more deserving team wins! All the best guys!

And Sri Lankans, please don't be harsh on your team. They played their hearts out in the CB series!

Forget India and SL - what a great show by Bangladesh and surely this is the comming of age for them. After the 2007 WC, I expected Bangledesh to be a real force in 2011 WC at home but it never happened. But this is surely the signs that these guys are finally grown up. Lets face it they have beaten both WC finalist convincingly - cant ask for more than that. Also it was a team effort than individual brilliance of a key player or two. The team is still very young and the new found talents in the batting order are adding some real strength to this young side. I can only hope the team will go from strenght to strenght from here regardless of what happens in the final and it will be a fitting story if they are able to beat Pakistan in the final.

@ak_kamal, The point is Pakistan had 50 overs to get to the total. But they got it in 40 overs. Thats 1.25 times better than the required rate. Thats how it is calculated. No matter at what rate Srilanka scored.

Another year at the Asia Cup, we wouldn't have even required to beat both SL and Pak at the same time. Thank you for the wonderful tournament rule system! Ban's runrate should have never taken them in! And SL have done no favors by first conceding a bonus point and then losing to Ban. And for God' sake, an Asia cup final gives not even a hint of their improvement. What a fuss! Now they want a tour invite from Ind?? Doesn't mean an Asia cup finale takes them anywhere higher than 9th in the Test rankings. Hope they know that! Should have never been the final with that NRR even though they really impressed well. Thank you once again for the lovely head-2-head rule!

@Akhtar Hassan, please have your temper down. Nobody questions the qualification of Pakistan, they are far better team in this tournament to be qualified for the finals. Now any person with an ounce of cricketing sense would have known considering India's bowling lineup it would be a tough tour.

its absolutely nonsense to calculate H2H when teams play each other once. It's ok if teams are playing each other more than once(like in CB series) during league phase. India and pakistan are 2 best teams for this asia cup and it's a pity that they are not playing final against each other.

Come on guys, lets discuss cricket and not individuals and countries, for the first time Asia Cup is attracting such enthusiasm, simply because we are seeing rise of another power house, that's great for cricket, who is in and who is out doesn't matter, you win some you loose some, have a heart, no team can win always, although i am a Pakistani but i hope we have a great final and the best team wins even if it means BD, imagine four Asian teams ready to dominate cricket, wow never thought it would happen.

Posted by Avi56 on (March 21, 2012, 5:34 GMT)

oki leave all this baseless thing going around that Sl did not play well or India just played for sachin...blah blah....just accept one fact that Bangladesh won their matches thru hard work and determination...with pak they were very close to winning..they beat india in a high scoring match...they beat sl in a revised target....overall just accept the fact that bangladesh was probably the best side for this tour... one its their home advantage yes but also there are a new bunch of young players playing as a team with all 11 contributing little little to their victory....unlike depending on 1 or 2 to win a match... Just observe the match vs india they had 3 half centurions and 2 in their 40s all contributing equal in the team

Posted by Issac_Samuel on (March 21, 2012, 5:34 GMT)

Actually, the head to head rule in case teams equal in number of points eliminated India. That's a stupid rule when there is just one time clash between the teams. It makes more sense in a tournament like CB series where each team faces other team 4 times. In a single time clash, anything can happen and the decision should be based on net run rate and not on teams head to head match.

Posted by InfazM on (March 21, 2012, 5:33 GMT)

Tendulkar, is a great and superb batsman without doubt...However, when reaching hundreds he is a bit slow and puts the india winning chances less by posting an overall low score...for example, when jayasuriya and srilanka were at peak in the period 1996-98 tendulkar used to take ages to score and when he scored a hundred or so, his strike rate was very low...the same happened here in bangladesh whem he scored 100 in 140 balls...the pitch offered more runs than 289...had India scored abt 320 they would have won the match easily....compare tendulkar batting to that of Micheal clarke..clarke recently scored 330 not out and he could have easily challenged brian lara record( tendulkar would sure have) but he didnt he put the team winning position ahead of his personal feat...clarke example shows why Australia are very dominant now...although they arent the team they used to be....the media is to be blamed for putting tendulkars 100th 100 for too much Emphasis..

Posted by naveenpnayak on (March 21, 2012, 5:32 GMT)

What Sri Lankans did was the right thing.. They can atleast get enough rest before the tournament against England starts. Bangladesh deserved to be in the finals. Infact they deserve to win the Asia cup. I want Bangladesh to win over Pakistanis.. All the best Bangla :)

Posted by shehzadcaa on (March 21, 2012, 5:32 GMT)

@ak_kamal: When a team is bowled out in less than 50ovrs, their NRR iscalculated for full 50ovrs so SL NRR in match against Pak was 3.76 and that is why Pak got a bonus point.

@ Vignesh Rajendiren: For this tournament, if two teams have equal points, the winner of their head-to-head encounter qualifies for the final and that is why BD have qualified despite a lower RR than Ind

@rk_ks : That is because they played against Kenya in semi-final buddy.. They got tested when they reached the final....:-P

Posted by Balumekka on (March 21, 2012, 5:31 GMT)

@SureshBravo: If your theory applied to India, same question can be asked whether India can play test cricket after losing 4-0 twice in a row against England and Aussies!!! Ha haa... Don't throw stones outside while hiding in a glass house!!!!

as far as the indian team.. finally the nightmare season is over (except one T20 against SA on Mar.30) .. now u can concentrate on IPL, 'THE PREMIER' game.. sachin, laxman uve got enough time (4-5 months) for a reality check and retire.. hopefully by the next season, indian team is back on track.. good luck guyzz..

BD really put a good show last night. BOL for Finals. I dont know why people over here hate each others country. This is cricket man not a WAR. Enjoy the game. All teams payed for their country. This is an international cricket so every palyer is up to the mark. We all should enjoy cricket rather than commenting hard on players & country. by the way I am an INDIAN & hard cricket supporter

Posted by denwarlo70 on (March 21, 2012, 5:18 GMT)

Congratulations Team Bangladesh. I am sorry our team (SL) did not go anywhere in the tournament but at the same time I am happy for the Bangladeshi team. They deserved to be in the finals as they played better cricket than us. I hope they could pull off a win against Pakistan at the finals and let this be a stepping stone for them to endorse their presence in the world stage.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 5:16 GMT)

Instead of blaming SL team now, India should have won Pak with a bonus point. All times we are depending on other teams match results is not fair. The worst selection is RJadeja who does not have either better average or a better batting style. This man damages the name of great player Ajay Jadeja by keeping part of his name. Dhoni to think and improve bowling department. If not, let him be a batsman cum keeper and Virat can lead the team better. Gambir can be VC. Sehwag & Yuvi not to take any captaincy bcoz that captaincy pressure will affect their performance.

Good Luck Both Teams In Final

Posted by RokanBD on (March 21, 2012, 5:08 GMT)

I don't know why India r so reluctant in admitting others' achievment. Indian guys are talking about the SL's mediocre performance but not for a while admitting that- this is a victory that has been made possible through collective team effort. Tamim, Shakib, Nasir- payed constantly great cricket all through the series. Indian bowling attack is the poorest & weakest among all World champions. Any team on their own day can just crush them into pieces. Don't forget India lost to Kenya & Zimbabwe for several times. I think India should act smart & find out their own shortcomings & work on it. & they too should learn how to recognize others' feats. i m sure if they don't try to change their cricket policy & style they can never top the ranking, & World championship would be seeming as a FLUKE.

Posted by Die_Hard_Indian on (March 21, 2012, 5:08 GMT)

well played BD..u played beautifully...but for their fans i would like to say dont follow path of srilankans..upto now u have played well and u need to keep up ur support..instead of criticizing India..and i would want SL and pak fans fans to think about the losses u 2 have been piling up against India recently..rather than criticizing us...As for the final i m just concerned about what will happen if BD bats first..best of luck to both pak and BD...And well played India...we love you..

Posted by Devs on (March 21, 2012, 5:06 GMT)

@all Cricket Gurus, Commentators etc etc (Specially from India):: will you say this an upset? whenever TIGERS beat a big fellow you people tagged it "upset". Bangladesh is the most consistent team in this asia cup, though they had lost their opener to pakistan, they are the most deserving candidate of the championship. please dont tagged that as an "UPSET" @Fans of Indian Cricket:: dude, winning world cup is a once in a life time achievement for you, how long will you sell that, your team performed like no other team after winning a world cup, say what? win nothing in post world cup tournaments, dropped from no#1 spot etc etc.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 5:06 GMT)

Well done Bangladesh. After coming close to beating Pakistan, you defeated both India and Sri Lanka in thumping fashion. India messed up once in World Cup earlier taking such matches lightly. If only one player had not played for his record in that match, may be the result would have been different. All the best for the finals. Play like the Tigers that you are.

Posted by SatyajitM on (March 21, 2012, 5:04 GMT)

Many Congratulations to Bangladesh! I think now they have done enough to shed enough to shed the minnows tag. They have played with maturity in this tournament. Above all they showed the belief. I think Bangladesh has also used their knowledge about the conditions and pitch quite well. For India the results may not be as bad as a first round exit suggests. Afterall they have won against two strong opposition quite comfortably.I hope some people don't start linking Kohli's special performances with India's tornament exits ;-) The real reason for India's concern would be their bowling not their batting. If you think about it Pak won against Ban with a lower total and even SL put Ban in some sort of trouble with lesser score. So, Ind bowlers have to deliver if the team is looking for consistency. Zak may be injured/rested but what about Nehra. why is he completely sidelined? India's pace bowling in this tourney was truly mediocre and behind Ban pace bowling.

BD was so lucky in that game. They gave more than 5 catches of miss hits that were land just in front of fielders and behind keeper. They tried to slog their way out. If the pitch was not so flat at night BD would never won it.They got a lucky stumping and ofcaurse they won the toss. I thought SL did a good job to defend such a smaller total.

Thanks a lot Nisar_Awan_DXB! U had stolen almost most of my words. Sachin couldn't score even a single century in England and Australia. Obviously he could do it only against small team like Bangladesh and that too in Asian Continent. So it's apparently he played in this tournament only for the sake of his 100th ton. Nevertheless no one cared that the team got out of the tournament due to his SLUGGISH TON! As an Indian Cricket Fan first we have to support TEAM INDIA, then we have to support our favorites.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 4:56 GMT)

Some Indians are complaining Bangladesh should not be in the finals, but they have to remember Bangladesh earned their spot in finals. If you correctly recall the exit in 2007 ICC world cup in West Indies, these two teams together send India out (Bangladesh and Sri Lanka). Sachin has scored many centuries for the team India but all his milestones have brought bad luck to India (analyze the results you had in the two centuries he scored in WC 2011 and his 50th test ton in SA) I wonder Mr. Kholi is also having that kind of a jinx with him despite his remarkable innings both in CB and Asia cup, India's destiny is always in the hands of Lankans.

I have noticed something interesting. In the CB tri-series, Kohli played an epic innings,Ind won but a couple of days later got eliminated(team responsible-SL).In Asia cup,Kohli plays another epic,Ind win comfortably, yet are out of the tournament(team responsible-SL,again).I guess SL don't like India.

Congrats Bangladesh on making the finals. This tournament means a lot more to the Bangladeshi's than India as we have won the tournament multiple times. Even if we win we will still be labelled as flat track bullies by jealous Lankans. A victory in the final will be like winning the World Cup in front of their home crowd. Their fans who have been subjected to ridicule over the years finally have something to cheer about and can dance in joy.

Posted by Rick777 on (March 21, 2012, 4:42 GMT)

India played better cricket in this tournament otherwise for loosing to Bangladesh. They should take the blame rather than pointing fingers to others for the situation. SL didn't have the desire to win after a hectic tour down under and also loosing the CB series final didn't help. Loosing some key players who were sent back home to rest for the English tour. SL missed Angelo, Thissara & Herath badly. An out of form Malinga didn't help.

For India to go out of the tournament after beating SL & PAK is bad. But they are in the receiving end is more to their destiny rather than them playing badly. Earlier most of the fans hated the Ozs. But times have changed since India trying to rule the cricketing world and also boasting of performance by winning in the subcontinent.

By viewing the comments in this review, it seems the Indian fans are so depressed of being thrown out of the tournament; they have started attacking SL for loosing against Bangladesh. Sorry site, but it's the reality.

It is very funny to see some Indian fans are crying, but Bangladesh deserved to go in final after chasing 289 from India. Now it is time to demolish Pakistan. You guys should encourage new cricket power from Asia.

Indian supporters, don't cry please. Don't blame on Lankans. It's the beauty of cricket. Why not give bravo to Bangladeshi young players who have done a tremendous job !!!!!

India made only one mistake in this tournament that they didn't thrash SL to earn a bonus point. SL are the most pathetic losers of this Asia cup losing to all three teams comprehensively. Anyway, congratulations to BD who are the most spirited team and are taking this tournament most seriously. India and SL clearly seemed disinterested after long tours.

Bangladesh truelly deserve it.They have outplayed bpth of there world cup finalist neighbours. Can we think about the SL of 1996.when they started performing as a full competeting side.I hope bangladesh do bets of there to win the final. If bangladesh wins tommorow it will be a history. No one knows that ti could be the start of a new era of cricket where weaker teams start showing there potential to the world.I would back bangla to win the asia cup.Good luck bangla boys.

Virat Kohli: The true hero... What a contributor.

Scores a 100 and chases 320+ in 37 overs and result - India out of the CB series. Scores a 100 and chases 320+ in 47 overs and result - India out of the Asia cup.

What a contributor... If Sachin scores a 100 India only lose the match, but if Kohli scores a century India are kicked out of the tournament.

Kohli: India's next "God of Cricket"......

It's so funny that somebody are telling IN lost the game due to Tendulkar's 100 & some are telling that SL lost the game to get out India from the tournament!!!! Somebody are telling that Asia Cup is not an important tournament & that's why teams like SL & India have not played well.. You poor guys! It's a tournament, where everybody came to win... If any team did any wrong.. it's their problem! they're not better sides in this tournament & that's why they got out! Please try to appreciate good performance!

Some Asian team have been thrashed the living daylights in recent encounters, another have n't won in years against India and another won against India after half a decade and still quite few people have audacity to talk trash. If you cannot beat this Indian team who is in transition then future of your team is really bleak. Remember this team was without Sehwag, Yuvraj and Zaheer. Although I am not big fan of IPL, I'll enjoy this time knowing India got what it wanted from the Asia cup, that is Winning against other Asian teams, Sachin getting his 100th, Virat inching towards greatness and Rohit getting his confidence back. You may consider it as arrogant but that's the TRUTH! BTW, Congratulations to Bangladesh for their improved performance.

If Pakistan didn't get bonus point, then he will out from the tournament. See the rules (2nd Line) to play final match.

In the event of teams finishing on equal points, the right to play in the final match or series will be determined as follows:

The team with the most number of wins If still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins If still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points If still equal, the team with the highest net run Rate

Well done Sonar Bangla -- hope you win the tournament. Shows what hunger can do. It also shows that to win in cricket you need to be able to both bat and bowl -- you cannot always expect the batting department to put up 300+ to compensate for inept bowling. India does not have a world class bowling team today -- neither pace nor spin. They are going to win nothing with this combination.

Another point is this BPL brings a great impact on BD, like IPL does for IND and palyer like Virat,Raina,Rohit,Vijay,Badri,Manish,Awrshin,Both M and S tiwary is the find of IPL so far.Hence form nxt BPL i would like to recommed to BD magt to give more chance to BD player in team and batting position not PAK player in team. And try to bring all the Cricket nations players rather than only PAK.

@ Lijihas Gopal - Yeah, the so called World Champions are out, simply getting kicked out of the tournaments, not once, but twice for this year..... dont you see how foolish that is to carry a "World Champion label on them", it is a shame for other Asian countries that you cannot even enter a final! Look what happen in Australia? didnt you get hammered?

It is so foolish of you to come and talk on a forum like this........so called world champions who cannot enter a final even in the "Asian Cup". Did it change anything, i mean anything at all even after yet another brilliant knock by Kohli or a long awaited century of Sachin..........it is so foolish to see your team who lack in team spirit.......Sri Lanka would have lost all matches and possibly a record....but dont forget that we have won more matches in an Asia cup than your great team who need breath to catch up!

The vagaries of a short tournament... Bangladesh played better cricket than they have done ever but luck favored them a lot too. There were atleast a dozen times yesterday when the BD batsmen just swung their bats without looking at the ball. Shakib should have been out at least 6 times. Another day they would have been all out for less than 100. But it was their day yesterday. They need to play a lot more maturely if they have to consistently challenge the good teams. Despite these two wins, I do not give them a chance in the final. Expecting a rout. Nevertheless a step in the right direction for BD.

Sachin, I am your fan. But having played international cricket for so long, you should have understood by now that personal milestones should not come in way of team cause. I still remember the 42'nd over of match against BD. You made sakib-al-hasan look like Malcolm Marshall bowling on a green top. You just scored 1 run in that over. That 5 over period or so costed India 30 runs. We lost the match and the tournament. I don't understand what satisfaction one can get with such a milestone which ends on team defeat. BD in finals..pretty bad for a cricket lover. I would have loved to see IND - PAK final or atleast SRI - PAK finals. Teams enjoy to win a trophy beating a quality team. Even Pak supporters would be more happy if PAK beat India or Sri lanka in final to win the Asia cup. Now even they will be disappointed to be playing BD in finals.

Bravo Bangladesh, showed a lot of determination and endeavor to win the match, gud to c tht we can win d match even if Sakib n Tamim can't finish it :) and heartiest thnx from a bangladeshi to all those who did support and praised us (SL, PK, even lots from IND) it was truly amazing to c... but things aren't done yet, we've to remember tht a lousy performance in finals can ruin all d reputation n respect we've achieved. So come on tigers, roar in d finals as well n let us roar with you all d way, best wishes for BD.

Bangladesh playing in this tournament as a Tiger in every match, not underdog. they are proved their ability. No one gave them a chance, they earn their victory. We are waiting for another win in final match by bit Pakistan. We will be the Champion in Asia Cup-2012. Good Luck Bangladesh

@Lijihas Gopal ...................criticism must b for positive change rather than being personal.... we do it because we want to c good cricket.....especially when non-Asian supporters are criticizing teams from subcontinent, we must tackle them rather than criticizing each other..... this is good to c that none of the teams had an overall upper hand in the tournament .... Pakistan beat BD & Srilanka, India beat Pak, BD beat Srilanka & India....Srilanka have been unlucky and out of form.... bad for the tournament but emerging BD would be great for international cricket... they have shown spirit same like pak did in late 80s n early 90s.........

We always get thrashed or get wight washed (or knock out) when we go out of our country. What to do if it's the reality. Only solution is we should play matches only at home

Posted by hotcric01 on (March 21, 2012, 3:59 GMT)

Congratulations Bangladesh! This is a big turning point of your cricket future, hopefully continue good works and win more games against top nations.ICC should give them more opportunities against top teams. Why these Indian and SriLankan fans are blaming to each others.nothing to do so.We should strength our friendship by playing a gentlemen sport like cricket.India or SriLanka have nothing to worry, they already have won 5 and 4 asian cups respectively. Now It is Pakistan or bangladesh's chance to improve thier titles in Asia cups.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 3:57 GMT)

Just for the records.. I don't think the rest of the subcontinent/ world thinks Indian team is arrogant. Its the Indian team's fans and media that carry that flag (referring to videos around saying how the media thought India will make 444 and sachin will break Sehwag's record against Bangladesh). Its you fans that back your team (which is perfectly fine) BUT at the same time talk and look down on other countries. (Especially Bangladesh). Hence today a big portion of cricket lovers are happy you got thrashed in England/ Australia and now Asia cup. Although in my previous comment I mentioned that it was good to see some positive notes from you guys about BD and finally giving us some credit. On a separate note, Sachin's 100 is not the reason why you are out. Its your bowling! An attack that can not defend 290 and gives away over 330 runs is a weak one. Stop blaming Sachin's 100 for your results! his strike rate was a healthy 77.55 for goodness sake!

Posted by Sheela on (March 21, 2012, 3:55 GMT)

A team which culd not defend a competitive total 0f 270+ like Indian team does not deserve to be in final. Even in limited over matches of all varieties, wicket taking is also essential. Presetly Indian bowlers are totally incapable of this. Less saaid about Dhoni's defensive field settings allowing opponents to score heavily and by the end of the innings ether in limited overs or Test resulting in Indian team's defeats has been conveniently ignored by everyone.

Posted by 9ST9 on (March 21, 2012, 3:51 GMT)

for god's sake stop complaining and celebrate the fact that world cricket is very very competitive these days - Bangladesh are in an Asia cup final, West Indies are holding their own against Australia - these are reasons for a REAL CRICKET FAN to be happy - of course those non-fans who only want to see their team win will always complain.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 3:51 GMT)

Mahroof was a total failure in Australia and in Bangladesh. He couldn't bowl or bat. Time for another youngster to step in and take his place. Malinga gave away most runs and took few wkts in the last two outings. He can not field or bat either, why not bring in a spinner instead. Overall pretty poor performance by the Sri Lankans.

How has Bangladesh made it to the final? At the Asia cup page it shows that India is higher.

Posted by binojpeter on (March 21, 2012, 3:44 GMT)

@Nisar_Awan_DXB If that is the case, why could not Pakistan score more than 262 against Bangladesh bowling in the same ground? Pakistan's top scoring batsmen Mohammed Hafeez scored at a slower strike rate than Sachin. How do you explain that? Pakistan almost lost that match until some late inspired bowling from experienced Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal saved it for them while for India inexperienced Dinda bowled too poorly at depth.

Posted by FrenchCricketFan on (March 21, 2012, 3:43 GMT)

I am french, support english team first , then bangladesh team. I request to bangladesh, please let anamul hauq play instead of jahurul. I saw him play in u19 wc, boy this teenager is with loads of talent & potential , very promising . He will definitely improve fast and become one of your best batsman soon if you give him chance to play and grow. Bangladesh, you will improve faster if you invest for future rather than only looking at current games at hand. Oh one more thing, in final against pakestan replace shahadat hosain for someone else - shahdat will be too expansive most probably.

balajik1968 raises a very valid point about IPL and big money. It is time that our administrators thought about releasing IPL contracted Sri Lankan players outright, so that they can play in any league they want, and play international cricket with others. This will enable those promising players waiting in the wings to play for their country with all their heart!

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 3:35 GMT)

Wow Indians are blaming SL for not being able to reach the finals. That's really low. If India were good enough they wouldn't leave their fate to other teams every time. They would have qualified on their own merit. It happened in CB series and now again in Asia Cup and India can only blame themselves for going downhill.

Congrats to Bangladesh. The fully deserve their place in the finals and also deserve to win the Asia Cup.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 3:34 GMT)

Dosesn't matter SL is not finals. But ICC t20 WC will in SL,,,, Bangladesh have to return home in 1st round. Because their oppositions are PAK and NZ.

SL FANS enjoy the loss of your team and party hard, be prepared to party harder because the POMS are going to thrash you all left and right in all formats, I hope you guys are back in time for some practice in your own back yard so that you do not complain that your players are tired or the series means no importance to you blah blah blah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by coolguysunil777 on (March 21, 2012, 3:27 GMT)

Indian fans common be matured enough...A loss is a loss and you cant just blame tendulkar for it. IF you guys consider Bangladesh a weak team then 289 was more than just enough to defend against them but they still won and why?? as usual because of the poor and pathetic performance of our bowlers so please stop blaming this or that person for the loss and except the fact that you cant just rely on fielding and batting to win a match. Bowlers do play an important match. This is not the first time that we lost because of our bowlers. Time and time we have seen that our bowlers dont perform or rather do not know how to bowl. In such a case no matter who scores a century it will go in vain if bowlers cant simply defend the total...

Playing against three world champions and going to a final itself is a big achievement. We beat India, Srilanka and now its time for Pakistan ... Hello Indian fans,

Please keep this in mind as noted by Kanishkaa Balachandran, author. "There were no back-door entries for a team which has suffered its worst away season in recent history". So how can you expect India to be in the finals by performing in one off game and then trying to put the balme on SL side. Had India played good cricket they would've been in the finals, same for SL too.

SL played brilliantly in Australia and so they deserved the place in final series but India after loosing 3 matches in a row in the CB series how would you expect India to be in the finals just because they beat SL in their last game. Indian fans please accept the fact that your team is not playing consistenly, so that's the main reason and try to work as a team.

Bangladesh palyed really well, so they deserved to be in the finals and I am sure will win the cup this time.

I hate this "arrogant" tag Indian tea has got from others in our sub-continent area. I really believe we are anything but arrogant, especially in the way some of you guys mention...I mean for the longest time Aussies and English have been the aggressors and we have been on the receiving end. Yes, its true that we may have some good things going on with our cricket and a few our players lately like Yuvi, Virat, Gambhir can be a bit cocky but we still have the likes of Tendulkar, Dravid, VVS, Zack who are thorough gentlemen. Sehwag is politically incorrect but harmless and in general a very likable guy. We are good at a few things, bad and constantly dealing with other issues, thoroughly competitive against Pak - just like they are with us...so why the hell are you guys so sadestic towards us? Cricket is after all benefitting from what India has to offer doesn't it?

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 3:16 GMT)

Well done Bangal Tigers,no one gave them a chance for even winning the single game and they have nailed two strong teams of the world, great achievement.

SACHIN WANTED TO GET TO HIS 100 AGAINST BANGLADESH, THE WHOLE TEAM PLAYED FOR HIS CAUSE...................TENDULKAR WANTED TO SHOW THE WORLD THAT HE IS NOT YET EXPIRED, THEY BEATEN PAKISTAN COMPREHENSIVELY........ WHATEVER THEIR PLAN WAS IN THE TOURNAMENT, IT WAS EXECUTED EASILY............ HAD INDIA GOT THE INTENTIONS TO WIN THE CUP, THEY COULD HAVE DONE IT EASILY...... TENDULKAR'S MILE STONE HAS COST THEM THE TOURNAMENT AS WELL AS A SHAMEFUL DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF BANGAL TIGERS??????????

congrats BD for their win. But they have to prove that it is not a joke. They ahve to win the finals too. BTT, sorry for SL they do not have a bunch strength. they are still depends on old guns like Mahela and Sanga.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 3:06 GMT)

Those who are questioning Pakistan's bonus point and run rate should know that Pakistan's run rate is the best in the tournament and they would have qualified for finals even without the bonus point. Pakistan's net RR is +0.444 and India's net run rate is +0.377. It needs brains to find out how the run rate equation works. I want my friends to go to the points table, use brains and find out how it works. Pakistan won against Bangladesh, Bangladesh won against India and India won against Pakistan. It makes all teams equal without taking bonus point into account. In this situation Pakistan and India would have qualified because Bangladesh's net RR was the worst of the three. Bonus point took Pakistan out of this equation and Bangladesh qualifies because of their head to head win against India as per tournament rules. I hope this satisfies all those who are confused about the qualification of Pakistan and Bangladesh for the finals.

@Ashiqur Rahman - If the other are teams are good enough why they are not able to beat India in the worldcup. According to you I guess ICC should not allow hosting teams to be in the final right? Remember, India won the worldcup because they played good cricket. Bangladesh entered the finals becuase they played good cricket than India did. Finally, the team which plays good will win. Bangladesh didnt even enter the quarter final of the WC remember that. India were 3 time WC finalists. The so called Flat Track bullies were the finalists of the 2003 WC.

It would have been tough for them if Tamim Iqwal is not there who was removed from team due to some internal policy, they should be thankful to the person because of whom he is in the team and is a vital reason for BD in the final... good going.. keep it up...

Bangladesh deserves to win Asia cup. It's high time to come out from the shadow of big names. It's time to prove that we can be a super power of world cricket. The most important thing to me is that, our(Bangladeshis) kids now want to become like Shakib, Tamim or Mashrafi rather than some outsiders. That is the inside strength of Bangladesh Cricket. Go ahead Bangladesh.

As an Indian fan, I am glad Bangladesh won. It will be great experience for the development of a young team and is a good reward for its passionate supporters. India, on the other hand, looked like they did not want to be on a cricket field for most of the season. An Asia Cup win at the end of the season would have glossed over the whole farce that was India's tour of Australia.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 2:43 GMT)

I am an Indian. But I am happy for Bangla team. It will be good for cricket if Bangla team is not a pushover team anymore and could challenge other teams. The good thing we saw is Bangla team bowled well in every match and also scored more than 200 in three consecutive matches which itself is new to them. Whatever be the result in the final, cricket will be winner if the tigers also play competitive cricket like other teams in the subcontinent. Nice to see them not being overwhelmed by the situations as they used to in the past. Keep it up Bangladesh! Good Luck for you in the finals!!!

Posted by Kanthi_Y on (March 21, 2012, 2:42 GMT)

Congrats Bangladesh.! For a nation playing international cricket for 15+ years I used to wonder if the performance is too little at the elite stage. Though they showed glimpses of glorey when they beat Aus, SA, Eng, Ind, SL in a game or two, the team never showed any promise. I wish this could be a begining of new raise in Bangladesh Cricket.

Posted by ransr5 on (March 21, 2012, 2:41 GMT)

Everyone who is saying stuff of SL Team. you gotta realize they have been playing no stop, series after series, and fighting big teams like aus, pak, ind. and now band (soon to be one of the big team after taking Asia cup 2012). they are tired, i don't blame them for losing, they didn't have enough practice and mental preparation like other teams.

And those who says Pak will demolish Bang team. just to let you know, its a huge achievement for us just to be in the final it self. so Pak winning won't make a different. even if the finals were between Ind vs Pak, we won't know who is winning. and bangladesh team, we have nothing to lose, except for playing good cricket in final and prove that we r one of the good team. however Pak is under pressure b/c they are known to be the better team than BD team , so losing is not a n option. so i think bangladesh have a huge chance to prove them as a good team.

Posted by raja9787 on (March 21, 2012, 2:36 GMT)

It is really funny to see some SL fans covering up their bad performance by saying they are glad that India is out of the tournament !! come on guyz, we Indians are not whining about not reaching the finals. We accept that BD played brilliantly and they deserve to be in finals!! and i hope they win the cup!! so don't go over the moon SL guyz.. yes we are out!! but you made it possible by losing to BD and NOT by winning anything, unlike CB series!! wake up!!

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 2:35 GMT)

Well played Bangladesh. You deserved it. All the best for the finals. (i'm developing a liking for the fighting spirit of Bangla team :) ) @SL fans: Accept your defeat; you are out of the tournament in grand style. So are we, though in a much better way. Let's support our fav teams for the finals.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 2:32 GMT)

Ha ha.. So Kohli plays well. India wins the match, India cannot even see the final of that series.

Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by BravoBravo on (March 21, 2012, 2:31 GMT)

@ak_kamal: SL was all out on 188 without completing 50 overs. But runrate per over will still be calculated based on 50 overs, so SL run rate is 3.76 (188 divided by 50). PAK made 189 in 39.5 overs without loosing all their wickets, their run rate was 4.74 (189 divided by 39.5). Now simple calculation, PAK run rate was little more than 1.25 times (4.74 divided by 3.76=1.26) as compared to SL. And that's how PAK did get 1 bonus point. I hope that answers your question. Your percieved rule of "60 run margin who plays first" is not correct.

Posted by binojpeter on (March 21, 2012, 2:29 GMT)

For those blaming that Sachin's century was responsible for India's loss, please remember that India scored more runs (289) compared to Pakistan (262) and Srilanka (232) Why is that Pakistan or Srilanka could not score more than India against Bangladesh bowling in the same ground? If their batsmen were more smart, they naturally would have scored more than India on the ground? Bangladesh was almost in the track for victory against Pakistan (they were 224/5 at 43.2 overs with Shakib and Nasir batting, that means they needed 38 runs from 40 balls with 5 wickets in hand, they floundered that chance with triple strikes from Umar Gul and two from Saeed Ajmal). Bangladesh bowling was disciplined in the entire series. India lost because of poor bowling.

Great work BD.. just dont get carried away.. Well done Bangladesh. But I really wonder about Sri Lanka. After such a fine performance in Australia, they played rank bad cricket here. Yesterday they looked like a bunch of zombies. But there is another angle here. The likes of Sangakkara, Jayawardene have never had a good word to say about India. Talk up your team by all means, but don't keep consistently bad mouthing the other team, considering that it is India which has kept Sri Lankan cricket from going belly up in the last five years. Most of the Sri Lankan cricketers have made good money from the IPL, but the spite endures. I don't want you to praise India, just stop abusing.

I cant explain my joys after watching Bangladesh marching to Final by eliminating two world champions from the tournament. Hats off to the Tigers. They have been playing top class cricket in this tournament and are the most consistent performer so far. This is the first time Tigers show their true tigrish hunger for success except the moment of madness against Pakistan. Otherwise, it would have been an awesome series for them. However, this tournament carries the flag of limited overs cricket and shows the world that ODI is at its best, fans/audience are still crazy for ODIs. One after another nail biting match, cricket at its best.

Australia thought that India should not get into CB series finals, hence lost to SriLanka in the last league match... SriLanka thought that India should not go into finals, hence lost to Bangladesh in the last leagque match of Asia cup... But India will come back proud by achieving all the 3 important things... 1. Sachin's 100th 100 2. Beating SriLanka 3. Most important: Beating Pakistan and raising the recent 11 matches stats to 7 to 4 win - lose record againt it. Now there can be a win-win (boring) match at the finals for both Bangladesh and Pakistan crowds.

@SureshBravo, i am not disappointed because India is out of the finals once again. Good work by SL and good luck to both teams for the finals. Time for India to pack up, go back and celebrate century of centuries, play IPL, should more than enough for India fans. Let the real deserving teams play some good cricket in the final.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 1:49 GMT)

I normally support the Pak team but in this final my full support is with BD. Every dog has its day. If BD wins everyone should celebrate it because it is cricket's win. We love our brothers from BD. Go Bangaldesh! If BD loses they will still have their pride. Well done guys.

I'm a Sri Lankan fan. I am so much happy about B'desh performances. They played excellent ODI cricket and surely deserved to win this cup. Loosing to them by any top team cannot be considered as 'upsets' any longer. I think India is also deserved to play the finals due to their top quality batting, but Pakistan is more deserved to play the final as they are the most balanced team in this competition. However, India won't be too unhappy as their youngsters performed very well in this competition. Sri Lanka played poor cricket so anyway they got what they deserved. Best of luck for B'desh and Pakistan for the finals.

10dulkar, in his quest for his meaningless century, gifted the match to Bangladesh. In any other country he would get fired for doing this. Only in India he is treated like a hero.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 1:37 GMT)

At the beginning India, then Srilanka and next victim would be Pakistan. I strongly believe so........... N I hope, Team Bangladesh do believe so as well........ Awesome Sala..

Posted by 777aditya on (March 21, 2012, 1:33 GMT)

all because of Sachin's sloth like 100th century with a subsequent Bangladesh victory - it cost India the Asia Cup for sure. Man of the match was given to Shakib in that match who had not even scored a 50, which shows how important his innings was rather than the much hyped 100th ton. Hope, Bangaladesh make the most of this opportunity and go on to win the Asia Cup. Best of luck Bangaladesh!!

Amazing performance by Ian Chappell's champion team in the Asia Cup - played 3 games lost 3 games. Congrats Sri Lanka on being labeled a champion team. Fortunately it is only a labe. Let us hear from Ian Chappell.

coz BD won two games it doesn't mean they are a good team... ICC should have a close llok at Bangala team.. That team is not a proper Test team... Strip of the test states from DB.. This is a team hasn't sown any pogres over the years.. SL managed to win the WC within 21 years they even entered the comp.. Can BD team even dream of that...

On behalf of my fellow country men and BD Tigers: Thanks for all the hearty (positive) wishes/ congrats from cricket lovers all over the world. Special acknowledgement goes out to cricket fans from Ind, Pak & Lanka. Hope our BD tigers keep up the momentum and go on to win the Finals! May this tournament be the turning point for the better in our cricketing history! Hats off to the new look Tigers! Bolo Bangladesh!

Posted by likeintcricket on (March 21, 2012, 1:18 GMT)

Pakistan is still hot favorite and they know everything about this Bangladesh side and how to play against them in their own country. Hopefully they will play professionally and with a cool head. Any score of 250+ against Pak bowling is difficult to chase for Bangladesh.

Posted by smudgeon on (March 21, 2012, 1:15 GMT)

good lord, didn't anyone expect this? I didn't, based on BD's 2011 form in ODIs. I'm quite pleased, this is a huge boost for them, and I'm sure they'll carry the confidence with them into the final. I agre Meety - they're such a talented bunch, it's hard to watch when they keep undoing their good work. Don't forget, though, that Tamim, Shakib & Mushy are all under 25, so there's still a few years before they'll reach their peak. Actually, who would have laid money on it being a Bangladesh v Pakistan final? I love cricket!

CONGRATS BANGLADESH!!!!!!!!!! One more win for a truly historic achievement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by dulabhai on (March 21, 2012, 1:01 GMT)

I'm very much looking forward to BD to win the cup. But it will be okay if they don't. What they have established beyond reasonable doubt is that they are a credible contender for it. This should do wonders for their confidence for many matches to come.

Posted by SLDude on (March 21, 2012, 1:01 GMT)

I am just wondering why Indians are not telling that they should play the final instead of Pakistan because they just beat Pakistan by chasing 300 + runs :)

Posted by Quddus-Mamu on (March 21, 2012, 1:00 GMT)

Let's make some changes in Final: 1. Tamim 2. Anamul 3.Jahurul 4.Nasir 5.Shakib 6.Mushfiq 7.Mahmudullah 8. Mashrafe 9.Razzak 10. Nazmul 11. Abul Hassan. Please change Shahadat he was very expensive in all three games. He is a test bowler , not an ODI bowler. Good luck Tigers.

Happy for Bangladesh's good performances throughout the series. Best of luck for both teams for finals. In last 18 days SL have played 7 ODIs & it's too much for any team anyway I'm disappointed with SL's performance in this tournament but I'm still happy about our team's overall recent performances in SA & Australia. Before starting Asia cup I expected SL to lift the trophy but once I knew that SL were out my next expectation was someone who is not a flat tack bully to win the cup because as an Asian I don't expect anybody to call Asian cup champions (or even runners-up ) are flat track bullies. So I expected SL to lose to Bangladesh because I knew that flat track bullies will also knock out if SL lose

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 0:56 GMT)

I guess Indian Cricket Team, should I rather say, Team India by now has to learn that they should not depend on other teams loss or win to get berth into playoffs/semifinals/finals. It was and is the case for Team India for many many years and I am sure will be for many more years. Most of the time it is the same thing, if team X wins on team Y and team Z has to win on team X then India will go to playoffs. Team India be the master of your own fate. Stop modeling and play some good winning games.

Posted by nilb on (March 21, 2012, 0:50 GMT)

Congrats Bangladesh. Good luck both to Pakistan and Bangladesh on the finals. Whatever happens I think Pakistan is the strongest team in the subcontinent. Boo Hoo India, tough luck, the destiny wasn't in your hands ;)

Posted by xerwill on (March 21, 2012, 0:47 GMT)

Is Bangladesh the best team in the tournament? No. But have they played good cricket so far, YES! Good work so far. If they can beat Pakistan, they will thoroughly deserved the cup. Till then, keep doing the good work without getting carried away.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 0:46 GMT)

bangladesh were lucky enough to be chasing in all the three games..heavy drubbing is waiting for them as soon as they bat first..they have played well but there target defending ability havnt been tested yet which is the most difficult task in this tournament

Posted by SLDude on (March 21, 2012, 0:44 GMT)

I am just wondering why Indians are come up and tell that we should play the final instead of Pakistan because they just beat Pakistan by chasing 300 + runs :)

Posted by jmcilhinney on (March 21, 2012, 0:43 GMT)

Many people have said "who cares about the Asia Cup". Well, I guess that it's fair to say that Bangladesh do, and quite right too. Who knows whether India and SL eased off in this tournament, given how much other cricket they've been playing. I would think not too much though. Surely SL would have wanted to win that last game to salvage some pride for the tournament and surely India would have wanted a good showing after Australia. Bangladesh beat them both and deservedly so. I guess neither India nor SL can say anything about England's loss to Bangladesh in the WC any more. Now we England fans just have to wait for Ireland to beat them both ;-) Good luck to both teams for the final. Bragging rights for Pakistan if they win, particularly after the recent unexpected 4-0 loss to England, but Bangladesh can be proud win or lose.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 0:38 GMT)

I just hope BD don't lose the momentum. Winning the Asia Cup would be marvelous, but no better than stay at this level against any kind of opposition, specially at Tests.

And I believe they have conditions to play like that always.

BTW, what a nice moment to follow Cricket. I really think Ireland and Afeghanistan can get at this level in some years and could join Test Nations - imagine a 5 side Asia Cup? So nice.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 0:37 GMT)

Congrats to Bangladesh cricket team..The tigers have proved yet again they could beat any top team on a given day.Today they have dealt a double blow, winning against Sri Lanka and knocking the world champion India out of the tournament, on a single day is just not an ordinary effort...TIGERS WILL BE CHAMPION.

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 0:37 GMT)

Posted by AneYako on (March 21, 2012, 0:34 GMT)

@chakdeindianeverdie: So what does these 'hatters' look like exactly and what kind of hats do they wear? On a bit more serious note, I know some indian fans are upset but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. SL team does have many lessons to learn and things to improve upon. But the lecture should not come from an Indian fan given the state of their own team. Not a single win in England tour in all formats, just two wins against Australia in all three formats. This kind of performance is down right embarrassing to see from the world champions and frankly don't think any team who took the title in recent years ever performed this horribly. So in summary, people in glass houses.....and I'm extremely happy for Bangladesh team and fans. Best of luck in the finals

Posted by FrenchCricketFan on (March 21, 2012, 0:30 GMT)

well-played bangladesh all 3 games. Your best performance was against india. I notice they always play better against india somehow. Already kicked out india from a tournament several times including this tournament and they are not one of the big teams yet. Once they become one of the big guys they would probably give hard time to indian cricket. Your batting improved due to new addition like nasir , nazimuddin etc. Now you need couple of new good young ballers. Why is Sakib m.o.m in this game ? To me, tamim batted better than sakib and nazmul done the most important job for this win.

Posted by Meety on (March 21, 2012, 0:26 GMT)

Really stoked for the Bangas. They cop so much grief from people who say they shouldn't have test status. They have been so frustrating to watch as they clearly have talent, but every time they take astep forward - it seems like they take a step back. I really do rate Tamim, Shakib, Rahim & Mahmudullah & Mortaza & Nazmul are good bowlers too. Just don't select Ashraful & you'll be on track!!!!!

BROTHERS.... FIRST OF ALL WE SHOULD TREAT ALL ASIAN PARTICIPANT AS BROTHERS BE HAPPY FOR OVERALL OUTCOME, DON'T MIX POLITICS WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL GAME OF OURS. ENG, SA, AUS, NZ AND W.IN DON'T CARE ABOUT THE ASIA CUP BUT WE DO.... WE SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT BD ARE DOING WELL AND WE NOW HAVE 4 STRONG ASIAN COUNTRY'S AND FOR SR AND IND, WHO DID NOT MAKE IT TO THE FINAL......NEXT TIME MAKE A STAND COME BACK STRONGER.M

MY PREDICTION FOR THE FINAL IS PAKISTAN TO SCORE BIG BUT TEAM BD WILL MAKE HISTORY.....

Posted by bMike on (March 21, 2012, 0:22 GMT)

Congrats Bangladesh! Seems like their bad time is gone. Frustration for India. Their bad time is still on. First they got thrashed in Test series , ODI series, T20 series in England. Then got thrashed in Test series in Australia. Then knocked out in CB series and finally knocked out in Asia cup on flat tracks. Anyway it's a good lesson for teams who don't have enough ability to make finals themselves and always depending on others' performances. Hope it's gonna be an exiting final tomorrow!

Posted by KumarEn on (March 21, 2012, 0:16 GMT)

Bangla team was a real fighting out fit yesterday, never seen before. Congrats...Lankans have no excuse , SL Cricket Board had offered to send a young team to Asia Cup if seniors were tired after Aussie Triangular since they didn't have any rest day, but seniors had rejected it,perhaps thought they would lose places in team if youngsters performed well..Now Mahela & Seniors licking wounds after losing all 03 matches.. SL board shouldn't have listened to them, if so by this time they could have found new blood for tomorrow's Cricket.

Posted by CricketChat on (March 21, 2012, 0:15 GMT)

Well done Bangladesh! It is about time they competed against bigger test playing teams. Granted it was in their own backyard, but it had to start somewhere!. I am also glad that Ind were knocked out (like in Aus recently) because they didn't deserve to be in the finals. They were more concerned with individual glory than team's success. I hope we get a belter of a final between Pak and Bang. Finally, time to enjoy cricket in a true sense!.

Posted by Blueangle on (March 20, 2012, 23:59 GMT)

wow! again Sri lanka sent india home. First by winning a game in CB series and now by loosing a game in Asia cup. Bangladesh played good cricket in a couple of matches but they also got lucky because they bat under the lights. with few exceptions(PAK-BD and IND-SL match), teams batting second won the matches because in the afternoon pitch is slow and low, difficult to score runs but pitch gets better in the night, easy to bat but not so easy to bowl due to dew. BD is playing good cricket but come on, Pakistani bowling is not so bad that you can chase 330 and Indian bowling may not be too good but not as bad that BD chased 290. In the final if BD wins the toss and ask Pakistan to bat then they have 50/50 chance but if its other way around then 20/80, unless they score 300 runs. I wish them win this game because it matters a lot more to them then us. Almost everybody in stadium was praying, when their team was chasing against Pakistan, their prayer are answered.Good luck bangla tigers

Posted by Navraj1967 on (March 20, 2012, 23:50 GMT)

Well Done Bangla's Keep it up. And wish you all best for the cup. Hope you guy's win this cup and Why not you guy's deserve to win? As you guy's almost beaten Pakistan and fully beaten India n Sri Lanka. I think Mr MS Dhoni should himself take his name of from captainshi. because he has no more interest left to play cricket anymore. Mr Virat Kohli deserve the double promotion now because because he is serious, maturing match by match and arrogant as well? Which we need as a good captain?

Posted by explorer76 on (March 20, 2012, 23:49 GMT)

To those who are complaining about tournament rules (basically indian fans), can you tell me why BD didn't deserve going to the final after beating both India and Sri lanka? And why did india deserve it any more than BD considering that they also won two matches just like BD, and BD had beaten them in their encounter? Its one thing to say that your team is more talented which I would agree to. However what matters is the actual performance and results and in that respect BD had an edge over India in this tournament.

real bad show SL. lost 3 matches, 1 to each neighbor and was completely outclassed in subcontinent conditions. cant believe this is the same team that gave such a fight in Aus, where we have historically struggled.

good luck Pak and Bangla, may the best team win. India played well this tournament, and are unlucky to miss out on the final. would love to see another virat masterclass.

The way the Bangladesh team has played today, I think they should win this Asia Cup as well, no matter if they beat the Pakistan team in the final, my genuine vote is for them. Good luck.

Posted by GMathews on (March 20, 2012, 23:41 GMT)

My comments is to Sangakkara your keeping was fabulous with leaving so many byes and runs behind the wicket. Also your teams overseas record is fantastic with yesterdays loss, SRI LANKA PROVED THAT CURRENTLY THEY ARE NO. 1 IN ASIA FROM BOTTOM, THEY LOST TO ALL THE ASIAN TEAMS IN THIS SERIES. THIS IS THEIR WORST PERFORMANCE IN THE ASIA CUP HISTORY. The spinner Senanayake was the bowler performed well in the Sri lankan bowlers, I WONDER THEY COULD NOT MANAGE TO HAVE ANY OTHER SPINNERS, EVEN DILSHAN ALSO DID NOT COME TO BOWL EARLIER, Sri lanka was the team always had 3 or 4 part time spinners.

Posted by explorer76 on (March 20, 2012, 23:40 GMT)

@ak_kamal: To find SL's run rate you have to divide SL's score by 50 overs, not 45.4 overs. They failed to utilize the full 50 overs because they were all out, but they had 50 overs at their disposal so they essentially made 188 in 50 overs.

As an example, say a team makes 100 runs in 10 overs and gets all out. In that case you wouldn't say that they had a great run rate of 10, you would say that they only managed 100 runs in a 50 overs innings and had a run rate of only 2.

Its very unfortunate that Sri Lankan fans are happy that India is out of tournament. They should be feeling bad about their consecutive losses. The SL Fans remind me of Dilshan who asked Randiv to bowl a no-ball to Sehwag to deny him century. Wow...That is a very wrong attitude. Glad BD Made it to finals. India beat PK and SL and they dont have anything to prove.

Well done BD!! Not to take any credit away, India in a way handed it to BD the way SRT batted against BD to reach his 100th hundred milestone as well as Kohli to a lesser extent. The media and cricket establishment/fraternity in India is going gaga about it. However, in a nutshell his hundred was more for personal milestone than what was needed for the team. BD would have struggled to chase more than 300 scrore.

Posted by Rooboy on (March 20, 2012, 23:10 GMT)

So india fail to qualify for the final again? Hmmm ... a lot of indian fans took great offence at, justifiably, being labelled flat track bullies after their humiliation in Aus. But I think that label is wrong. Considering Adelaide and Sydney are not fast bouncy tracks, and they lost there anyway, and the fact that they couldn't qualify in the sub continent either, I think the label should be that they can't play anywhere.

Congratulations to Bangladesh for an excellent team effort to win this match. So far we have kicked out India (the world champion with outrageous bowling attacks LMFAO) by shattering Sri Lanka (the world cup finalist) although Pakistan slips through the fingers in the first match but now we have the chance to take revenge............ Next victim please. Let's roar once more........ InshAllah we will win the Asia cup.

For the confused fans:

The tournament qualifying rules. (same as the WC)

The team with the most number of wins If still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins If still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points If still equal, the team with the highest net run rate

Net run rates comes last and it is fair.

Right now Pakistan can only win if SHAHID KHAN AFRIDI is the captain, Misbah should be dropped after the pathetic preformance against India. He deserves to retire . He is 40 already, does he plan to destroy Pakistan for another 10 years. Even if Pakistan wins the final I would not consider him to be a good Captain. If wants to show that he is worth it .. try winning against Australia, South Africa, India or England.

May the best team win...

Congrats Pak on winning the Asia Cup! and well done Ban at getting to the finals. SL are such bad actors that they would'nt win a best acting award in SL film industry. They failed to even appear interested in trying to win this game. Pathetic sportmanship but excelent gamemanship. Atleast they got their dues paid form last year, now for a new coach, captain and VC. Having said that Ind only have themselves to blame in not making it to the finals.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 22:43 GMT)

Bangladesh deserved to be in final not because they were one of the best performing teams in tournament but because of the rules of the tournament. I heartily congratulate bangladeshis for getting in the final. India gave a great qurbani of asia cup for sachin's century in this tournament. I sincerely hope that they don't give another qurbani of worldcup for sachin's double century in world cup 2015! Bowlers and selectors are also got everything wrong. The death of good bowlers and sensible selectors in lacking for many many years! When will this drought end?

I am glad that loosers (IND) who are dependent on other teams performances are out of this tournament. @Sanj747, you absolutely right that no one from IND team acknowledged the superb performance of BD. Tendulkar is just a selfish player, he does not even care about IND team, why he should be bothered about BD. @darsh127; mate, you are a gem of a person, you are a rare kind among IND fans. Cricket needs more fan like you who really watch cricket in the true spirit of game. However, I have to say that most of the IND fans are full of hatred and revenge for the opponent teams. Good Luck BD, keep the tempo. I won't be surprised if you beat PAK. Good luck to both finalists.

Great win by Bangladesh, on a day when Ireland finished second behind Namibia. Some people were already doing the mathes of replacing Bangladesh by Ireland in the test cricket world.

This is a south african supporter....I have always supported India in Ind-pak game...I am a huge south asian cricket fan....I like watching SL's fight back in Fast pitches abroad which the others cant. I like watching India's batting and pakistan's bowling (maybe the best in the world along with Steyn n co) But what i see in the new look Bang team...I would be their new fan. And hope they win the Asia cup n teach other big countries some lesson. That not to depend on others to play in the finals. Recently what i read in the comments digust me. Especially Indian fans underplaying Bangladesh and the way they think of themselves. I am surprised by the Pakistan fans sportsmanship. Maybe India beat Pak in an one off game but Pak beat India on the whole both in the tournament and humility. Hatts off to u paks and BANG go win the cup with a Bang. The best two asian teams i ve seen so far in the series. Hope for a great Final. wanna see something NEW.

@ getsetgopk : I am an Indian fan and happy that India did not qualify for the final. Bangladesh deserves to be in final. You should think about how India and Kohil humiliated your lousy team in a neutral, partisan venue.

As a Srilankan I supported Bangladesh in todays game. Two of my favourite teams after Srilanka are playing the finals but I'll support bangladesh because this victory could change hell of a lot in this developing side. I would like to see anamul haque in place of nazzimmudeen in the finals, I watched him at the under 19 world cup and this bloke has lot of potential, give him a chance he could be a Chandimal for Bangladesh. Insha allah very soon I'll see Asif ahmad in the team, one of my favourite player.

Dhoni captaincy failed in ODI also. Luckiest captain ever. Suddenly there is no luck , he start to stink.

Posted by Roshini on (March 20, 2012, 21:54 GMT)

Oh Ho Ho! This was coming Sri Lanka. Well played Bangladesh! Are there any positives as usual to take home MJ? Please no more injury excuses now because tonight the tigers have proved they are far more superior in every department of the game. How pathetic we were going down in all matches. Who ever thought and said Bangladesh was a pretty ordinary one day team can now hide their face in shame and eat up their own words. Their ODI performances are no fluke. Seven years ago the well respected former SL captain Arjuna Ranatunge infamously said that it was matter of time before Bangladesh came good. How true he has been proved in this Asia Cup. Bangladesh can only get better cause most of the cricketers are in their early twenties. They will be seasoned campaigners in another 2-3 years time thus making them a real force to be reckoned with. All the best in the finals Pakistan and Bangladesh. May the best team win.

First Congrats to BNG. India never deserved to be in the final with the worst bowling unit in South Asia. Second, its funny to see how many bangla fans and 5wombats claim no indian is commenting in this forum, either you are blind not to see comments from many indians congratulating BNG or blinded by your hatred towards India. Also it seems most bangla fans are more happy that India is not in than enjoying BNG going to the finals comphrehensively beating SL like @Turzo, @naveed and many more. To all the SL fans who are also very happy to see India not in the finals, what does this display by SL team tell u 3 losses in an Asia cup on similar pitches liek home....hmmm makes me wonder. Hope to see an exciting finish to the Asia Cup and not one sided game. Good Luck to both the finalists.

Posted by Penny71 on (March 20, 2012, 21:45 GMT)

Congratulations B'Desh. They deserve this win. Pathetic batting by SL who looks like took the game easy. It shows the lack of batting adaptability and inability take the attack to the opposition. Dilshan, what's the point of swinging the bat with no foot work. Pls get your basics right. Best wishes for B' Desh and Pakistan. Good thing is that so called irratic flat track world champions are thrown out of the tournament for the second time in one month. SL must be having the last laugh, despite the loss.Fans certainly do.

Posted by ILaughAtThee on (March 20, 2012, 21:44 GMT)

Bottomline = Indian bowling has let the entire team down. The hunt for a decent bowling attack continues..

I am actually not disappointed for not qualifying. Atleast our players get some rest before the IPL grind. Well played Bangldesh, you deserve to be the finalists. And all the best to SL for the Eng series.

As a Bangladeshi we are very proud. Our boyz are playing like a team. It is a complete team effort. We are not standing on the shoulder of old giants to guide us to victory. These are new generation/breed of Bangladeshi players. They play to win. Hopefully the snob cricket media (England and India) will give the due respect to our team.

Well played BD. Congratulations. It was clear from the body language of Lankans that they were not interested in winning the game. They were just going throuh motions. Nevertheless BD played like a champion.SL has the habbit of preventing India get in to finals. As Mahela said in the past that your fate should only be controlled by you. You cannot rely on others to do it for you. SL fans must be happy now because they dont have to put up with all those arrogent comments from Indian fans. Good luck to Pak and BD. May the best team win. My head says PAK but my heart says BD.

Well done Tigers, the best of it is India fail to reach latter stages again but never mind Sachin got 100th 100 so all is good. I await the excuses for another failure, probably a conspiracy by all the olther teams because they are scared to play India in the final.

It has to suck when you're waiting for the other team to loose so you can be in the finals. I'm Indian, but I have to say, Bangladesh deserves to be in the Final. I wouldn't be surprised if they beat Pakistan..

Congratulations on this win BD! Team BD played CONSISTENT cricket and we Indians know that you also ALMOST won against Pak in first match before winning against India and SL. Its about time!! Potential was always there but needed bit of improvement in your team so whatever hard work team have done, its job well done and hats off!! If India entered final, it would've been sad for me because never wanna see it be at expense of others loss especially BD. It should always be based on our own performance so now hope Dhoni and co get out of denial about bowling dept issues. BD are deserving winners of Asia Cup from performance with bat and ball but may the best team on the DAY win! Best of Luck to both teams in the finals! :)

Congratulations Bangladesh! You've played some wonderful cricket and I wish you the best to lift the Asia Cup. Both Pak & BD deserve to be in Finals. As an Indian cricket supporter, I can only say that Ind did a lousy job and still in the mode of celebrating milestones instead of victory. Kohli seems to be budding well but he has a long way to go before he can be considered a total success. Let's enjoy some clean, entertaining cricket from these 2 finalists. Cheers!

@ak_Kamal, Good point. However, it's the way it is. This Bonus point rule by itself is a bad one. I can't digest the fact that India, the best team in the comp, is out. Not because I am an Indian supporter. I honestly believe they were the best. Hopefully, Pakisthan doesn't get an easy final. But, there are two good things from this result. It is good for cricket that Bangladesh have finally delivered something after their inclusion. Also, since Pakis and Bangla are playing the final, they have their two favorite teams.

Congrats to Pakistan! We all know that Pakistan will thrash B'desh in the final! After losing in the final, B'desh captain will say - "they were glad to be there and blah blah blah"... Really tough luck to India for not being there... they definitely deserved to be there. They beat Pakistan and Lanka and lost to B'desh in the last over and if had it took only 3 more balls for Pakistan to score 189 against Sri Lanka - they wouldn't have got the bonus point which got them into the finals. Tournament is such a small, they need to consider Net Run Rate for the standing.

India won two matches against SriLanka and Pakisthan convincingly and lost one match to Bangladesh narrowly. But, they find themselves out of the final. Head-Head rule in a tournmanet where the teams only play a single match each other, is foolishness. Anyway, congratulations to Bangladesh in beating this SriLankan team who are playing like minnows these days. The moment their captian made a statement that they will be winning more matches than losing if they kept playing the way they did, they have only won 1 and lost 5 matches, including 4 in a row. Also, congratulations to India for playing the way they did. They were easily the best team in the competition. Only mistake they have made was, they should have deliberately lost the match to Pakisthan. That way, SriLanka would have played to get a Bonus point against Bangladesh and would have won without the bonus point and India could have played the final on Net run rate.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 20:52 GMT)

now Pakistan will destroy Bangal tigers in the finals. Sri Lanka played a different game today.. It was clear that they didn't want India to reach finals so they decided to loose.

Posted by wnwn on (March 20, 2012, 20:52 GMT)

I think Sri Lanka need to take a break from cricket for a few months. They seem to be playing non stop.

Posted by Harmony111 on (March 20, 2012, 20:50 GMT)

Wow it would be a Pak vs BD final after all. The two more favored teams are out, one never won a game and the other lost the one game that turned the tournament on its head. On current form I would say BD have an edge over Oak and they should win it. Pak is a good team but there are far too many issues with them at the moment. Their fielding is not good, their batsmen are good but not all that confident and their bowling heavily depends on Ajmal. Would we have a new champion this time? I think the whole of BD thinks that and most of India too. As for the lankans? Shame on them. They got walloped in this Asia Cup. What kind of a pathetic team are they reducing to? I don't think SL would win the test series or ODI series against Engl. I see a white wash for the Lankans at home. It is also imp to see the lack of sportsmanship shown by them. Did anyone see the way Lakmal and Dilshan kept bowling on pads and the way no attempt was made to get close to ball hit in the air? What was that?

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 20:49 GMT)

I think there should be a match to decide 3rd/4th place. Because, India has done quite well to beat both Srilanka and Pakistan. So, they deserve to play their 4th match of this tournament.. lol

Posted by bobmartin on (March 20, 2012, 20:47 GMT)

@ak_kamal... read the playing conditions: In the event of teams finishing on equal points, the right to play in the final match or series will be determined as follows:

The team with the most number of wins If still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins If still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points If still equal, the team with the highest net run rate

Think that answers your query

ROFL so many Bangladeshis popping here then never before :d ..ok this is their moment ..have your day..congrats to them. SL needs rest, there was no intent and desperation from their side in whole tournament..they clearly looked lethargic and were playing just for the sake of it. They are better team then this. enough said! For Pakistan well wining the cup is no fun anymore unless defeating Indian team, which we didn't so if we win, we won't gain much but if we lose, then it will be an embarrassment while Bengalis have every thing to play for but most likely Pakistan will over come them. Its been 13 yrs, we have not lost to them and Bangladeshis knows it and they always succumb into pressure from good position, just because of the mental superiority we have it on them.

Posted by adis26 on (March 20, 2012, 20:39 GMT)

Sucks that we are out but I guess kudos to Bangladesh - may be 2 victories in a row against fancier opponents shows that they might be just out of their 'minnows' tag. I did not see this happening but I guess this makes cricket the game it is. Congratulations B'desh. Those who are still hurt by Sehwag's ordinary comment need to understand that he specifically stated that Bdesh are a dangerous One-day team but an ordinary test-team. Certainly politically incorrect on his part but I still see what he is saying. Having said that, the way Bdesh is improving - he will soon stand corrected. Dear SL team- Are you freaking kidding me man? This is how you deny us a finals birth twice year? Lol. We know who not to depend upon. Indians played great cricket and I am happy with the way we performed, our run-rate was great too but I guess this is a pill we have to swallow. Good luck to Bdesh in the finals.

They would blast their way past to achieve the net run rate to get pass india and also to win with a bonus point. Think before you say something!

Posted by gozmuz on (March 20, 2012, 20:24 GMT)

Why are so many people accusing Tendulka'rs century for our loss. With the century gone Tendulkar has come back to his attacking ways. Evident from his fireworks against Pakistan. I am more than willing to lose a league match to get back the magic of old Tendulkar. Hence losing to BD was more like strategic retreat for future victories from the bat of Tendulkar. All guys critisizing Sachin should just chill and not behave as if this Asia cup is the mother of all cups in cricket.

Posted by nasersid on (March 20, 2012, 20:20 GMT)

Very well said blue_android India deserved not to be in the finals. They should celebrate the individual centuries and they can't see beyond that. For heaven's sake someone ask tendulkar to leave the team and gracefully retire. How will we see the next tendulkar emerge from India. I am sick of all the oldies (sehwag, laxman etc.) not performing consistently but still like to hold on to their thrones while Tiwari after scoring a century is just a bystander. This to me is the biggest cause for Indian cricket's doom. Take Aussie board and ponting as an example and hence their team is re-emerging lately.

It is a loss to Pakistan that they missed the chance to revenge against India in the final. But well played Bangladesh - they are definitely showing more professionalism in this tournament so far. Lets hope they would at least not chicken-out to the pressure of Asia Cup final and perform at least up-to a competitive level in the final. But it is diffidently hilarious to see how Sri Lankan threw the India out of the last 2 tournaments :-)

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 20:07 GMT)

Mr.Waquer Younus summed up the match very nicely by saying that Sri Lanka played a different game. Lot of Sri Lankans will readily agree. We bungled our batting and bungled our bowling by dishing out ample loose deliveries. Some even got startled when the ball was in the air, making the catches drop very close to themselves within catching distance. They don't look very clever when they do that. Mr. Younus was right! Sri Lanka was playing a different game; we were watching the match between Bangladesh and Bungledesh!

And Just wanted to congratulate them also for beating India which most forgot in the midst of the individual performance of Tendulkar. The 2 top teams are in the final and deservedly so. India failed again and there progress was dependant on others not themselves. Never heard anyone acknowledging Bangladesh beating India nor Tendulkar saying that his 100 was not good enough to stop Bangladesh. The final between the 2 teams is great for cricket.

I am very impressed by new Bangladesh team. Can BD show some magic in final too?. As a Pakistani fan i want Pakistan to win but i won't be upset if BD wins.

Posted by Nadeem1976 on (March 20, 2012, 19:55 GMT)

Awesome job Bangladesh. Now the real test starts, you are in the final against best spinners in the world. Just do your best and don't try to win from ball one, try to play with patience and confidence and make a real match out of it.

It will be extremely hard for BD to beat 3 top tear teams consecutively. If BD wins it will be greatest achievement in BD cricket history. Just put your mind and body in one place.

Happy for Bangladesh. Serves them right for putting individual records above the team. 117 runs in 147 balls on an absolute belter of a track batting first. Serves them right I say - Indian Fan

Well what a surprise! LOL No comments from the Indian fans so far on Bangladesh beating Sri Lanka! They were all congratulating their team with comments after comments when the beat Pakistan! Feels good to know that we Pakistan will take the 2012 Asia cup.....come Thursday!!!

Posted by asiacricket1234 on (March 20, 2012, 19:51 GMT)

I remember so many people from our neighbour country used to say that Afganistan is better than BD. BD shouldnt be playing international cricket etc. Feel sorry for those people. Im sure they are having a bad time

Tournament summary: Sri Lanka Beat by Bangladesh + India Beaten by Bangladesh = Bangladesh go through to the final.

Simple maths really. Obviously a bitter pill for the Indian fans and also the sponsors but so what. Perhaps India will now start offering to host a BAN v IND tournament on home soil. Bye Bye India ... better luck next time!

Posted by habib_drmc on (March 20, 2012, 19:47 GMT)

two best teams r in the final....india have to avoid to depend on other team to go final..they have to make their own way..they may chase 330 but they cant defend 290....congratulation bangladesh...u played extremely well..hope u will be the champion of this asia cup.............unfortunately "world champion" & world runerup team got last two position of this tournament.....

*waits patiently for the Indian fans to flood the boards and tell everyone how they dont care they're not in the finals and that beating Pakistan was the only thing that mattered*..... keep telling yourselves that, you may just end up convincing yourself.....

Great victory by Bangladesh over Lnakans. I m an indian fan but i appreciate bowling perfomance of bangladesh to restrict sri lankan openors jaya wardene and dilshan. India need to think about the bowling changes.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:38 GMT)

are we still ordinary?? the world should realize now how capable we are. Can anyone say that Bangladesh does not deserve to be in the final?

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:37 GMT)

BD nailed it...hopefully they will beat pakistan in the final

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:36 GMT)

I am a Pakistani and really happy for Bangladesh the way they've played in this Asia Cup. brilliant effort to reach the final, and you've proven that Ban is no longer a weaker side or minnows, Congrats !!!

On the other hand really sad for India coz I wished Indo-Pak final, would have been another exciting match, doesn't matter who win or loose it's a part of a game. now hoping that Ban will continue playing like this and make the final interesting...

Best of luck to both the teams

Ahhh!! What a peace in my mind. First India, now Srilanka. Pakistan will be next Inshallah!!

When 10dulkar makes a century.. india loses the match.. when kohli makes a century... india is kicked out of the tournament.;)

Some Indian Fans who were questioning Bangladesh's ability, Where are they, in their holes? Real Cricket Lovers, whether they are Indian, Pakistani or Sri-Lankan, are bound to acknowledge that Bangladesh is now a force to be reckoned with.

delightful performance... As a Pakistani, its difficult to pick your fav between SL and BD. This BD team has matured and is unlike any BD team ive seen so far. They have shown strong nerves, great resilience, composure and self belief. If they perform like this, I wont mind losing to them in the finals.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:30 GMT)

anyways we have done our jobs, we have beaten our arch rivals pakistan. your prayers have been accepted pakistanis ,anyways bangladesh deserve to be in finals or even win the asia cup ,congratulations!,bangladesh you are no longer a weak team but remain underdogs keep your heads high, and show what are you made of in the finals, all the best.

I think you guys need to revise the point table of asia cup 2012...

Great performance by Bangladesh, and will be a tough final.

Posted by ultrasnow on (March 20, 2012, 19:26 GMT)

Congrats Bangladesh from India. The two best teams have the final. Who knows if Bangla win it change Bangladesh cricket fortunes forever. All the best BD.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:26 GMT)

Congrats Bdesh for making it to the final. The Selectors ( or that infamous Board chairman) should not disturb the team combination for a long time to come, unless its absolutely necessary, e.g, for injuries. Let this players settle down and grow in confidence, even if some of them got out for ducks in some matches. Frequent changes in the combination destroyed the players' confidence previously.

no india.......:) they are always dependable on others victory to get chance

Posted by binojpeter on (March 20, 2012, 19:23 GMT)

Congratulation Bangladesh for the historic win. Being an Indian, I was hoping for a India-Pakistan final. But you proved to be more deserved to be in the finals than us. Your bowling was much much better than ours was evidenced by the fact that you restricted Pakistan to 262, India to 289 and Srilanka to 231 and was almost in the winning track against Pakistan and chased down the scores against India and Srilanka comfortably. Seems like we are close to a situation similar to 1986 Asia Cup victory moment for Srilanka against Pakistan. That changed the image of Srilanka cricket considerably. I will be supporting Bangladesh in the final not because I have anything against Pakistan (they also played well in this series and have more experience playing in the final) but because the impact of getting the tag of Asia Cup champions can have in the development of Bangladesh cricket.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:23 GMT)

Outstanding developments in Bangladesh cricket...This is Bangladesh's cup

Posted by SureshBravo on (March 20, 2012, 19:22 GMT)

Not able to win a single match, Srilanka should be playing qualifier to come into WC Events. I think If Afgan, Hong kong or Malaysia played in the asia cup they would have beaten Srilanka with good margin. ICC should consider these team ahead of Srilanka.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:22 GMT)

Bangladesh Zindabad InshaAllah will win the cup

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:22 GMT)

Bravo Bangladesh, Heads Off to You !!!!

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:21 GMT)

What a win Bnagladesh!!! I am pretty sure the way they are going right now, there are many more to come in future. Two to go, one left for the Asia Cup. On that note, we need a solid batsman in number three position.Jahurul may not be the right batsman for No 3. He had hard time playing short ball. Congratulations tigers.

Posted by JBIndia on (March 20, 2012, 19:21 GMT)

First I thought we just lose a match because of Sachin's 100th 100 that is still bearable, but bowing out of a tournament because of that HISTORICAL 100 is sheer injustice! By saying this I am not taking away any credit from team Bangladesh though, they deserve to be in final.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:20 GMT)

I dont understand why india cant play in finals with runrate of 0.38 which is way far from bangladesh runrate of 0.022

Posted by Stark62 on (March 20, 2012, 19:20 GMT)

Bangladesh are starting to look like they actually belong with the big boys now!

Remember, they did whitewash NZ not too long ago at home too but I guess they'll learn how to play abroad, once they get the opportunities.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:19 GMT)

I dont understand why india cant play in finals with runrate of +0.38 which is way far from bangladesh runrate of +0.022

With India's bowling they don't deserve anything - basically.

Great efforts by bangladesh and about sri lankan's they lost their 3 matches out of 3, bad performance ever, in Asia CUP, i think after Murli (master) sri lanka is in hard trouble..

India deserved this. Cant help thinking The hundred century has to be blamed. 147 balls to score 113. Kohli scored 183 in 148 that too agianst a much much superior bowling attack. SRT take a bow.

Posted by   on (March 20, 2012, 19:10 GMT)

Well played Bangladesh!! Hope you win the final as well. I'm glad India got kicked out of tournament. At least now they will do some serious homework.

Congrats to Team India for being the first one to go pass the immigration of Dhaka Shahjalal International Airport. Surely you guys are the 'Champion'...Greetings from Bangladesh to all Indian!

The tigers from Bangladesh have proved yet again they could beat any big team on a given day. Today they have dealt a double blow. Winning against studious Lankans and knocking the world champions India out of the tournament on a single day is just not an ordinary effort. Congrats to Bangladesh cricket team.

Posted by nahidthebest on (March 20, 2012, 19:07 GMT)

How did Pakistan Get a Bonus point? Bonus Point - The team that achieves a run rate of 1.25 times that of the opposition shall be awarded one bonus point. A team's run rate will be calculated by reference to the runs scored in an innings divided by the number of overs faced. SL run rate 4.11 - runs scored in an innings (188) divided by the number of overs faced (45.4 overs). PAK run rate 4.74 - runs scored in an innings (189) divided by the number of overs faced (39.5 overs). PAK Run rate is only 1.15 times. The General Presumption of getting a bonus point if team batting first wins by 60 Runs margin and team batting second chases it down in 50 overs will work only if full 50 overs are faced.
