Big Bash League - 2nd semi final

Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Stars

Perth Scorchers won by 8 wickets (with 0 balls remaining) (D/L method)

Update - 7pm localt time: The rain continues to come down here and the game has been reduced again to a 17 over game with target now 178. I dare say it'll be reduced again with the covers back on.

The Scorchers could be saved by the rain here. They need to play five overs to constitute a game. I'll keep you posted when I know more.

Update - 7.20pm local time: We're about set for a return. The Scorchers revised target is 139 off 13 overs with a three over Powerplay. You'd think the shortening of the game actually helps Perth as they don't need to keep the run-rate up as long and they've still got ten wickets in hand.

0.1

Faulkner to Marsh, no run, digs out a yorker to mid off, good start

0.2

0.3

Faulkner to Marsh, no run, length on off, pushed to point

0.4

Faulkner to Marsh, FOUR, leading edge in the air through point and it races away through the gap, very lucky

The keeper is up to the stumps for Mascarenhas

2.2

Mascarenhas to Marsh, 1 run, short outside off, cut to deep point

2.3

Mascarenhas to Gibbs, 1 leg bye, big shout for LBW, and it was close too, but the umpire says no. Gibbs pulls up after that single, looks to have hurt himself

It's looking like Gibbs has pulled a hamstring, certainly not what the Scorchers needed at the moment. He's getting some attention from the physio now.

The Stars getting frustrated at the delay the Scorchers are causing, perhaps hoping they don't reach five overs with more rain

2.4

Mascarenhas to Marsh, 4 byes, oh what a nut, cuts Marsh in half and the keeper can't take up at the stumps, that's the risk with keeping up

2.5

Mascarenhas to Marsh, no run, beats the outside edge as Marsh fishes outside off, great nut

2.6

Mascarenhas to Marsh, 1 run, guided to gully

End of over 3 (8 runs) Perth Scorchers 23/0 (116 runs required from 60 balls, RR: 7.66, RRR: 11.60)

Faulkner to Voges, 2 no balls, drama as he bowls a front foot no ball and they run through to the keeper, incredible

The field will be coming right up now, this is just incredible

12.6

Faulkner to Hussey, FOUR, full toss and he gets it over the infield and the Scorchers have won a cliffhanger

What a dramatic finish we've seen here tonight! James Faulkner bowls a front foot no ball - which I believe would have been a no ball for having only three in the circle - to concede the game after a topsy-turvy, rain affected night.

The Scorchers players and home crowd go nuts as the Scorchers go through to the Big Bash Final, to be hosted here in Perth on Saturday against the Heat.

The Stars had their chances too. Bird dropped a catch off the first ball of that final over to allow two runs, Handscomb missed a runout and Faulkner bowled a no ball - and that was just in the final over. Questions have to be asked as to why Shane Warne did not bowl while Alex Keath was smashed for 27 in his only over.

The rain certainly helped the Scorchers as the target was reduced - as were the overs - but full credit to the Scorchers, and particularly Shaun Marsh, who smashed their way to victory off the final ball of the match

That was just an incredible semi-final between two worthy semi-finalists and the sell-out, record crowd got their moneys worth with a thrilling final ball finish.

The Stars actually thought they'd won the match off the final ball, but it was called a no ball and it essentially gifted the win to the Scorchers.

Shaun Marsh has been named Man of the Match for his blistering 68 off just 40 balls. He's the leading run-scorer in the comp and he'll go head-to-head with former team-mate and second highest run-scorer Luke Pomersbach in the final on Saturday night.

Join us then, but for now, from me, Andrew Fuss, good night.
