Stefanus "Steve" Strydom played for the Orange Free State team between 1959-60 and 1968-69. He was one of three brothers to play for OFS during that period - the others were Petrus and William. In 28 matches Strydom scored 1227 runs (ave 24.05) with a highest of 234 against Transvaal B in 1965-66 and this was his only century in first-class cricket. He took five wickets at 58.00 with right-arm medium bowling. He played rugby for Orange Free State and became an internationally renowned referee. He blew in Test matches between Argentina and Australia in Beunos Aires in 1979 and Scotland and Ireland at Murrayfield in 1985, France and Wales in 1985, and France and New Zealand the next year.
