Cyril Smith was a fast-medium bowler who played for Queensland immediately after World War Two, making his debut against the Indians in 1946-47 but only securing a regular place in 1949-50. In 1951-52 he enjoyed his best season, taking 22 wickets at 28.50, including his career-best 7 for 58 against Victoria - he reserved some of his best performances for matches against Victoria, and 32 of his 71 first-class wickets came against them. He turned our regularly in the following two summers but proved slightly expensive.
