Tom Triffitt made his best first-class score as Western Australia set South Australia 355 runs to win at the WACA. At stumps on the third day, the Redbacks were 1 for 32 in the chase, with Phillip Hughes on 12 and the nightwatchman Joe Mennie on 12.

A busy day on which 15 wickets fell ended with Mitchell Marsh having the South Australian opener Sam Raphael lbw for 12, and Hughes loomed as the key for the Redbacks after his first innings of 92. The morning began with South Australia's first innings at 6 for 209, but they were only able to add another 28 runs for the loss of their last four wickets.

Western Australia, who easily claimed first innings points, began their second innings disastrously as they stumbled to 3 for 3 and then 7 for 52 before Triffitt led a lower-order recovery. The openers Liam Davis and Marcus Harris both fell for ducks to Mennie and Marcus North was lbw to Chadd Sayers for 1.

Adam Voges was lbw to Johan Botha for 3 and Marsh departed for a 23-ball duck before the recovery began. Triffitt (85) had some assistance from Mitchell Johnson, who made 38, and Michael Beer, who was unbeaten on 26 when the Warriors were dismissed for 191.
