29.4 to RT Ponting, it was on the cards, looks to loft him over mid-on, is half a second early into the shot, and ends up lobbing it straight to Yousuf at mid-on. Aamer is ecstatic, Ponting is furious. 138/3 45.2 to MEK Hussey, Malik takes a second good catch today, Hussey looks for the pull, the ball isn't short enough, the top edge lobs between short fine and deep square leg, Malik is the man running in and finishes a safe catch. 221/5 49.3 to CL White, sharp bouncer, lovely delivery, no room, and White is late into the pull again, lobbing it top Yousuf at midwicket. Mark Nicholas on air says, "He [Aamer] is quite something, if he really is 17.". 261/6

35.4 to MJ Clarke, goes for the inside-out, over-the-extra-cover shot, but the length is not there, it' too short for the shot, and he chips it straight to Afridi at extra cover. Clarke walks back, Pakistan form a huddle. 166/4

19.5 to SR Watson, so the pressure put in by the spinners has worked, throws this one up gently after having pinned him on the back foot, Watson goes for the flick-sweep, not the all-out powerful shot, just the flick-sweep, but he has times it too well, and it carries to deep square leg where Malik takes a smart catch. 100/1 23.3 to SE Marsh, Afridi gets two! looks for the chip over the on side, the bat face turns early, the leading edge carries all the way to long-on, and Afridi is in his Flintoffesque celebration, arms aloft, letting the mates surround him and hug him. 114/2

4.3 to Salman Butt, edged and taken, he finally gives him the one that has to be edged, back of a length, outside off, angling in to his ribs, he has to play at it, and the healthy edge is accepted at second slip. 7/1 4.6 to Younis Khan, beautiful bowling, lands around middle and off, seams away, Younis is drawn into the drive, gets a healthy edge, White dives to his left, in front of the first slip, and takes the catch. Superb catch, but would have been easier for the first slip. 7/2
8 | 1 | 23 | 1 | 2.87 | 37 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | |
11.2 to Umar Akmal, two Akmals gone in three deliveries! the perfect delivery, the one that coaches tell you to bowl, "Hit the top of off"! Siddle gets it to hit the top of off, holding its line a touch, and Umar ends up playing inside the line, and reacts like Gatting did after facing Warne's first delivery of the Ashes. 32/4
7.3 | 0 | 15 | 3 | 2.00 | 35 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 0 | |
16.6 to Shoaib Malik, Ponting pulls off a blinder at point, Malik makes room and cuts, dying on him, Ponting dives to his left, gets his left hand between the ball and the ground, smoothly done. There was no rush, no hurry, as he dived, as if he had sized that up all along, and that while diving full length. 42/5 35.2 to Mohammad Yousuf, six feet either side and it would be four! Moves across the stumps, flicks, nicely connected but straight to Hauritz at short fine. Mark Nicholas sumps it up on Channel 9: "I guess if it isn't your day, it isn't your night either.". 123/9 37.3 to Saeed Ajmal, it's all over, Ajmal pokes outside off and the outside edge settles in Haddin's gloves to finish this mauling at the SCG. 127/10
3 | 0 | 10 | 1 | 3.33 | 13 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | |
21.4 to Shahid Afridi, out goes Afridi, short ball, Afridi looks for a repeat of his previous hit over long-on, there is no room for him and he top-edges into the orbit, Watson tells Haddin he wants the caught-and-bowled, gets under it, and as Bob Willis would say, makes no mistake. 58/6
7 | 0 | 45 | 2 | 6.42 | 21 | 1 | 3 | 0 | 0 | |
24.6 to Mohammad Amir, Hauritz is becoming a caught-and-bowled specialist! this is drilled back powerfully at him, absolutely smashed, and shin high, but he gets his hands down in time, and takes it clean as a whistle. 71/7 32.6 to Naved-ul-Hasan, and he's a goner, superb stumping by Haddin, tosses this up, teasing him, and Rana is beaten in the flight, the ball turns sharply down the leg side and Haddin is super-quick, although off balance because of the sharp turn. 117/8
