Brad Oldroyd has hovered on the fringes of his state team consistently over many seasons now, having first brought his considerable talents as a left arm orthodox spinner that into the first-class arena as long ago as 1995-96. From his considerable height, he is a slow bowler who gains considerable turn and bounce and bowls with a high level of accuracy. Above all, it is his ability to make deliveries spit at batsmen from just short of a good length which is his greatest asset; it was certainly this quality which was central in affording him the chance to participate in Western Australia's stirring Sheffield Shield Final victory of 1998-99. Despite the fact that the task of capturing first-class wickets on a regular basis has never been an easy task for slow bowlers based in Perth, Oldroyd also enjoyed a memorable start to the 2000-01 season, gaining selection in the process in an Australia 'A' side which met the touring West Indians in a fixture in Hobart. He remains a tremendously combative and fiery player at club level and has enjoyed the status of being the best spinner in Western Australian cricket for several years now. (John Polack, August 2001)
