Profile

Wisden overview
A fluent strokemaker, especially square of the wicket, Shahriar fell five runs short of Bangladesh's maiden international century - against Kenya in 1998-99, but played a crucial role in their first victory over a Test nation - against Pakistan in the 1999 World Cup. Injuries hampered his subsequent development, and after missing the Zimbabwe tour of 2001, it took him three years to force his way back into the reckoning. Andrew Miller
