Alwyn Eato was a quick bowler who played 25 matches for Derbyshire between 1950 and 1955 without ever commanding a regular place - although his opportunities were limited as while he was on a professional contract, he was in effect part-time as he had to take off his full-time job to play.
He took 1 for 230 in his first three matches, but found form towards the end of 1951 and was in the side for the final month of the summer, during which he took his career-best 5 for 14 in an innings win over Leicestershire. He missed all of 1952 on National Service (during which time he played for the Army and also for the Royal Engineers at Lord's) but came back as work allowed in the next two seasons (16 wickets at 32.50 in 1953 and 17 at 17.58 in 1954). He made his last two outings in 1955.
