Gavin Griffiths, who hails from Ormskirk, had a memorable T20 debut for Lancashire in 2015 when he bowled a maiden over under considerable pressure during a victorious semi-final against Hampshire at Edgbaston on Finals Day, and went on to play in the final as Lancashire won their first limited-overs trophy for 16 years.

Griffiths had a long association with Lancashire, beginning at U-13 level, and also won representative honours with England U-19s. Things did not go according to plan, however, after that heady T20 moment. He never made a Championship debut and, in 2016, he was loaned out to Hampshire and played in four T20 matches. Lancashire released him at the end of the season.

Leicestershire were the next county to give him an opportunity, using him primarily in T20 cricket until a decent 2018 season, under a new coaching team of coach Paul Nixon and bowling coach Matt Mason, which brought him 36 Championship wickets. He developed into a consistent performer at Grace Road, particularly in the white-ball formats, and in 2020 was a couple of bad Leicestershire misfields from sealing a return to T20 Finals Day after taking 3 for 25 in the quarter-final against Notts.
