Champions League Twenty20 - Qualifying Pool 1

Hampshire v Sialkot Stallions

Sialkot Stallions won by 6 wickets (with 5 balls remaining)

Right, play is about to begin. Michael Carberry and James Vince to open for Hampshire. Sarfraz Ahmed, the left-armer from over the wicket ...

Nick: "After an India - SA one off T20 was rained off last year and the earlier T20 rained off this afternoon, will it be third time lucky for inconsequential T20 games in SA? Rain, Rain!!!!!" Unlikely, the weather is fine now.

Toss, 5.00 pm Shoaib Malik has won the toss and Sialkot Stallions will bowl. They batted the last time they won the toss at the Wanderers and lost that match. They've made one change, replacing Qaiser Abbas with fast bowler Umaid Asif.

Hampshire are being led by Jimmy Adams. Their regular captain Dimitri Mascarenhas has a niggle. They've made a couple of other changes as well. The Davids, Balcombe and Griffiths, are playing today. Adams said he would have bowled too.

Here's what Darren Bravo's up to: "Cricket game got washout.. off to the mall now..."

Azweer: "I Always gets confused Jimmy Adams with Ex-WestIndies Captain Jimmy Adams!!! I wonder is he still playing!!!" I think he's coaching now.

4.50 pm Rain forced the first of today's games, between Trinidad & Tobago and Uva Next, to be abandoned at the Wanderers but the weather has improved in Johannesburg and the second game should start on time. It's another dead rubber, though, with neither Sialkot Stallions nor Hampshire having a chance of making the main draw of the Champions League T20. Both of these teams lost to Auckland Aces.

There was a lot of rain and then puddles on the outfield but the Wanderers drains well and so here we are ...

The pitch looks quite green but T&T blitzed 181 on this surface. Would the rain have changed things, though?

0.4

Sarfraz Ahmed to Carberry, 1 run, Carberry stays on the back foot and steers the short of a length delivery towards third man

Ravi: "What a lazy run up Sarfraz has - I thought he was ambling in to just measure his run up - Strange final delivery side on action too." Yes, his front foot lands on the crease and only then does his arm begin to come over. Usually the arm is already through the delivery as the front foot lands

0.5

Sarfraz Ahmed to Vince, no run, steep bounce from just short of a length, raps Vince on the glove as he tries to defend

0.6

Sarfraz Ahmed to Vince, no run, left alone on top of middle stump, Vince left that purely on length

1.1

Umaid Asif to Carberry, 1 run, good length on off stump, played off the back foot towards point

1.2

Umaid Asif to Vince, no run, punched off the back foot towards the bowler

Ravi: "Watching Sarfraz Ahmed is like watching Paul Adams running in 20 steps and finally bowling. Same action except the run up! Chinaman pacer." Well Sarfraz is looking at the batsman as he delivers, unlike Adams.

1.3

Umaid Asif to Vince, no run, defended from the crease on the off side

1.4

Umaid Asif to Vince, FOUR, crashed through the off side, Vince was well outside his crease to meet that length ball and he drove it hard through covers

1.6

Umaid Asif to Vince, FOUR, this is a huge slog, Vince charged again and tried to pull a short ball but was in no control. He top edged it over the in field and towards the deep square leg boundary. A fielder gives chase and dives, he reaches the ball but his momentum takes it over the boundary

Carberry played the ball to square leg and I'm not sure whether he called Vince for a single but the run was extremely risky. Vince charged down the pitch but Carberry wasn't budging. The fielder picked up and threw down the stumps on his own, even though the bowler was in place to collect the throw

Naved-ul-Hasan to Wood, 1 bye, a slower ball to end the over, the batsman slogs and misses, the steal a bye to the keeper

7.00 pm Hampshire scored only 31 runs off their last five overs and have been restricted to 143. The pitch has enough in it for the seamers, though, and the spinners spun it too. I'll be back in ten minutes for Sialkot's chase.

End of over 20 (5 runs) Hampshire 143/8
CP Wood    6* (6b 1x4)      Naved-ul-Hasan    4-0-23-1
DJ Balcombe    0* (0b)      Bilawal Bhatti    2-0-9-1
