Fred Klaassen

Spotted as part of a Netherlands development squad which played two one-day friendlies against Kent in 2018, Fred Klaassen joined the county's Second XI, taking nine wickets in two appearances to earn a two-year deal ahead of the 2019 summer. After an impressive debut season for Kent's first team, Klaassen signed a contract extension to keep him at the club at least until the end of 2021.

Klaassen took 21 wickets from 22 appearances across all formats for Kent, his best figures for the club coming in a one-day match against Surrey when he claimed 2 for 17, with 24 dot balls, in 6.2 overs. Some dogged batting as a nightwatchman in the second innings against Yorkshire during his one and only Championship match to date saw him face 110 balls for 13 runs in a match which Kent lost but Klaassen won a standing ovation when his gallant knock came to an end.

Born in Sussex, left-arm seamer Klaassen played club cricket in New Zealand, where he was raised before moving to Australia and then back across the Tasman. He then joined Norwich in the East Anglia League, followed by East Kilbride in Scotland. Qualifying for a Dutch passport through his grandfather, Klaassen moved to VOC Rotterdam, where he earned his international call-up, forming part of the Netherlands' side which secured a place at the T20 World Cup in Australia.
