Bill Merry was a medium-pacer who made 26 appearances for Middlesex over four summers without every gaining a regular place in a strong, trophy-winning side, or threatening to do so. His best season came in 1980 when he took 15 wickets at 20.00 as Middlesex won the Championship, including a career-best 4 for 24 against Somerset. He played Minor County cricket for Hertfordshire either side of the his first-class career.
