Fred Nicholas was a fine allround amateur sportsman who won Blues at Oxford for football and athletics, going on to play 11 times for England's amateur football side. He was a member of the Corinthians side which knocked Blackburn Rovers out of the FA Cup in 1923-24, and ran as a sprinter for his country.
