Profile

An opening batsman and occasional offspinner, Toby Radford did not progress as expected after winning plaudits as a teenager. He played sixth Youth Tests for England (the forerunner to the Under-19s) with a best of 79 against New Zealand at Auckland, and was appearing for Middlesex's 2nd XI aged 16. He did not make his Middlesex first team debut until 1994, by which time he was 23, and in seven outings he averaged 31.00 with two fifties. At the end of 1995 he moved to Sussex but failed to make much of a mark there either, his seven matches finishing with an average of 22.80. His best was 69, a score he reached for both sides. After being released he played two full seasons for Berkshire, serving as their development officer. He returned to Middlesex to head their Academy, taking over as interim first-team coach when Richard Pybus quit midway through 2007. He did well enough to be appointed to the role full-time for 2008 during which time Middlesex won the Twenty20 Cup. In 2010, Radford left England and moved to the Caribbean as director of the High Performance Centre in Barbados and in early 2012 was named the West Indies assistant coach.
