Charles Shore was a professional cricketer who played first-class cricket for Nottinghamshire (ten matches in the period 1881 to 1885 - 70 runs at an average of 7.78 and 31 wickets at an average of 25.36) and Lancashire (1 match in 1886) and Liverpool & District (two matches in 1886 and 1887).
He played for Herefordshire in 1886 and for Norfolk in 1889 to 1901.
He was a very moderate but hard-hitting lower order left-hand batsman and slow left-arm bowler with a good fast yorker whose best bowling in an innings in all matches was 10-50 for Norfolk against Durham in 1897 at Norwich.
His best season was for Norfolk in 1891 when he took a total of 69 wickets for 603 runs (average 8.51) - this was more wickets than all the rest of his team-mates put together.
At his peak, his height was given as 5ft 7in and he weighed 11st.
He was engaged as professional for Huyton CC (1877), Sefton Park (1879-1888) where one authority called him the "best professional that Sefton ever had" and Norfolk (1889-1901).
He was born in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts, living at 56 Union Street, and died in the town in 1912. His daughter remembered them living on a boat on the Norfolk Broads during the summer and returning to Sutton during the winter.
