Jo Watts came on to the international scene in 2005 at the age of just 18. Her first opponents were the formidable Australia whose potency is enough to strike fear into seasoned campaigners, nevermind rookies. This rookie, though, was undaunted and played the first three of the five one-dayers, which included a two-run win against the World Champions, their first victory against Australia in 12 years.
Watts' debut series may not have been explosive but she did enough with her offspin to be selected for the subsequent winter tour of Sri Lanka and India. She claimed four wickets for 16 runs in the two-match ODI series against Sri Lanka which the tourists won easily, although they then crumbled against India, losing 4-1.
She took up the game at the age of 13 and made an impression at the Super Fours in 2005; three months later she was catapulted into the full England squad.
