Born in Perthshire, Gordon Drummond started his cricket career at Meigle Cricket Club, where his father played before him. A bowling allrounder who combines bustling medium pace with useful lower-order batting, he made his one-day international debut for Scotland in their narrow defeat to West Indies in July 2007. His contribution in that match was minimal, but Drummond has since established himself in the national side, and two years after his Scotland debut he captained the team for the first time in an Intercontinental Cup clash with Canada at Aberdeen. The experience was a happy one, as Drummond came to the crease with his team struggling at 102 for 8 in the first innings and scored 52 invaluable runs, lifting the score to 185. After picking up two wickets in Canada's first innings, Drummond played another important knock, scoring 34 after Scotland had been reduced to 99 for 7 to take their lead past 200 and set up a 29-run win. Drummond's most successful outing in limited-overs cricket to date also came against Canada as, taking the new ball, he picked up 4 for 41 to help Scotland level a two-match series. Drummond had already relinquished the captaincy to Gavin Hamilton for that game, and the World Twenty20 Qualifiers that followed in Abu Dhabi in early 2010. But as Hamilton struggled to balance the role with work commitments, Drummond once again ascended to the leadership before the World Cricket League Division One tournament in July 2010.
