Gary Chirimuta started playing cricket from the age of 11 and was a quick learner, playing for the national age-group side two years later. One of his best junior performances was in the Under-16 season in which he averaged 80 in the tournament. He got his first taste of leadership a year later, captaining the U-17 squad that toured South Africa; winning five out of six matches. Chirimuta scored a half-century on debut for Centrals in 2007 in 'List A' cricket. The year 2009 was the young man's second year playing for the U-19 team and his first World Cup awaits in New Zealand.
