Nasum Ahmed

Nasum Ahmed built a reputation as a capable left-arm spinner to complement Shakib Al Hasan in the white-ball formats.

Nasum was first called up to the Bangladesh team for the T20Is against Zimbabwe in March 2020, but didn't play a game before the Covid pandemic hit. He debuted in T20Is the following year, in New Zealand. Though he took only two wickets in the three-match series, he followed it up with his first four-for in Bangladesh's maiden win against Australia a few months later, in Dhaka. He added two more four-wicket hauls the same year, against New Zealand and Afghanistan, both at home. He had a less successful 2022, perhaps best remembered for being smashed for five sixes and a four in an over by Ryan Burl in a T20I against Zimbabwe.

He took five wickets in Bangladesh's 3-0 ODI sweep against West Indies in 2022, including a 3 for 19 in the second match. He has occasionally proved a handy lower-order batter as well - his 44 was instrumental in putting Bangladesh's 265-run target beyond India's reach in the 2023 Asia Cup. The year though was overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the sacking of coach Chandika Hathurusingha, allegedly for striking Nasum during the 2023 World Cup in India. Nasum lay low for a year after being dropped from the national side, but returned in 2024 to take 3 for 28 in his first game back, against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
