Born in New Zealand, Keith Steele, a medium-pace bowler and middle-order batsman, made his first-class debut for Cambridge University in 1970 while there as a scholar, winning Blues in 1971 and 1972 as well as earning Blues in 1970-71 and 1971-72 as a rugby full-back. His best summer was in 1972 when he scored 400 runs, including his only hundred, against Sussex. On his return to New Zealand he played one season for Auckland before his career effectively ended when he moved to Sydney to join Freehills, a legal firm, where he became a partner in 1980.
