Roy Kaia

A competent middle-order batter and offspinner, Roy Kaia is one of three brothers - Innocent and Knowledge the other two - to play serious cricket in and, in Innocent's case, for Zimbabwe. Kaia toiled for close to 12 years in the first-class circuit before finally getting a chance to play Test cricket for his country, in 2021. He did play one ODI in 2015 but has struggled for consistency at the highest level.

Kaia represented Zimbabwe in 13 Under-19 ODIs and three Under-19 T20Is between October 2009 and January 2011. He made his first-class debut for Centrals in the 2009-10 season, but played just one match before moving to Southern Rocks the next season. He scored fifties in each innings of his first game for them and followed it up with his maiden first-class century three games later, before switching to Mountaineers ahead of the 2014-15 season - he stayed with them till the end of the 2019-20 season.

He finished as the highest run-scorer in the Pro50 List A championship in 2014-15 with 382 runs at an average of 76.40 and was subsequently called up to the Zimbabwe squad for a three-match ODI series against Pakistan in May 2015. He played just one game on that tour, where he neither batted nor bowled, and went back to the domestic grind.

Kaia moved back to Rocks ahead of the 2020-21 season and finished as the highest run-scorer that year, helping his team lift the Logan Cup title. In April 2021, he was selected in Zimbabwe's Test squad for a two-match series against Pakistan at home and made his debut in the format. In July 2021, in a one-off Test against Bangladesh, Kaia was reported for a suspect bowling action. The following month, his action was deemed illegal, and he was suspended from bowling in international matches.
