William Solomon made one Test appearance, against Lord Hawke's side in 1898-99, scoring 2 and 2. His selection came about as a result of two gutsy innings - 64 for a Johannesburg XV and then 52 for Transvaal. His first-class career spanned 13 years but totalled five matches - two in 1892-93, two in 1898-99, and a final outing for Eastern Province in 1905-06
