Strong club performances for Carlton and the Victoria 2nd XI earned Nathan Pilon a cap with his second state late in 2005-06. A former New South Wales wicketkeeper, Pilon made occasional appearances for the Blues from 2000-01 to 2003-04 before deciding to move south for more opportunities. After two years in club cricket and 111 against New South Wales 2nd XI, Pilon, an aggressive batsman, was promoted ahead of Adam Crosthwaite for the Pura Cup match against Queensland. He played three games, including the final loss to the Bulls, with 14 catches and a highest score of 46 against Western Australia.
