Oshane Thomas

Oshane Thomas could always hurry the batters. He attracted Chris Gayle's attention at a nets session for Jamaica Tallawahs in 2016, when he was in high school; and come the CPL playoffs, Thomas was already making his T20 debut as a 19-year old.

In 2017, Thomas then got Gayle out for a duck in the CPL, before grabbing 18 wickets in ten games next year. That helped him take the step up for his West Indies debuts for both limited-overs formats in India in late 2018.

At home, in March 2019, Thomas rattled England with 5 for 21 in an ODI to mark his arrival in international cricket. A chance for Rajasthan Royals in IPL followed. But the world mostly took notice of Thomas' potential when he shook Pakistan and Australia up in the 2019 ODI World Cup. While Pakistan were troubled with the short balls, Australia seemed surprised with his pace and bounce.

That helped him win Cricket West Indies' Emerging Player-of-the-Year award in 2019, and he justified that by blowing away five of Sri Lanka's top six in a T20I in Pallekele in March 2020.

Later that year, Thomas was named among the reserve West Indies players to tour England for a Test series during peak Covid-19. After his selection, he said he "definitely" wanted to play Tests, and do well across formats. In fact, West Indies great Andy Roberts said Thomas would be the first name he would "pencil" in for the Tests against England.

However, Thomas wasn't given a Test debut, and then fitness troubles in 2022 kept him out of action for the first few months in 2023 as well.
