All-round Ayub gives UAE first win
UAE Under-19s 251 for 7 (Rohit 70, Ayub 40) beat England Under-19s 250 for 9 (Higgins 75, Ayub 4-22) by three wickets
An all-round performance from Qazi Ayub gave UAE Under-19s their first win of the tournament as they chased England Under-19s' 250 with three wickets to spare in the last over. Ayub finished with 4 for 22 from his 10 overs and scored a 34-ball 40 before he was dismissed in the penultimate over.
Opting to bat, England lost their openers in the tenth over after they played contrasting innings. Harry Finch scored a 34-ball 35 and Dominic Sibley scored 6 off 24 before being dismissed by Ayub. Ryan Higgins scored a strong 75 off 87, with three sixes, even though he lost partners at regular intervals. Rob Sayer and Finch steadied the innings with a partnership of 63 for the sixth wicket, which nearly took them to 200 but Sayer fell for 32. Once Higgins was also sent back, in the 46th over, a cameo of 32 off 20 from Miles Hammond took them to 250.
The UAE openers put on 53 in 14.4 overs but Karl Carver dismissed two of the top three batsmen to reduce them to 90 for 3 in the 26th over. Dan D'Souza and Rohit Singh put them back on track, putting together 50 in under 12 overs, before D'Souza fell for 29. Rohit and Ayub took them closer to the target with a stand of 98 from only 10.5 overs. Even though both of them fell in consecutive deliveries, and UAE needed eight from the last over, Sharuk Ahmed's six off the second ball gave them two points.
