South Africa A 212 for 9 (Van Jaarsveld 58, Sean Abbott 4-36) beat National Performance Squad 202 for 9 (Bancroft 54, Behardien 3-37) by 10 runs

Farhaan Behardien worked overtime to script a slim 10-run victory for South Africa A over National Performance Squad in Palmerston. He had to resurrect a flagging batting innings, his 48 being one of three scores in double-figures and he also collected 3 for 37.

The chase had been given a sound foundation with Cameron Bancroft dropping anchor with 54 off 113 balls. He combined with captain Jordan Silk after an early strike but progress was quite slow. Alex Keath provided the impetus with 44 off 45 balls, but Behardien jarred the chase with two quick lower-middle order wickets to go along with Bancroft's scalp.

Four of South Africa A's top five walked back into the dressing room for single-figures before Vaugn van Jaarsveld's 58 off 72 balls led a revival. Behardien gave him company and Simon Harmer contributed a 44-ball 43 which accounted for a lion's share of the total. Simon Mackin allowed only 18 runs in 10 overs and his fellow seamers were only marginally less miserly: Gurinder Sandhu took 2 for 37, and Sean Abbott snapped up crucial wickets down the middle order to end with 4 for 36.

It had seemed light for large parts of the match until South Africa A applied a stranglehold - Kagiso Rabada, the 19-year old who starred in the junior World Cup in March, left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso and Beuran Hendricks, who was with South Africa in the World T20, all went at under four an over.
