8th Match, Eng v Zim, Statistical Highlights

  • It was the 1617th ODI in cricket history.

  • It was the 15th match between these two sides. The record now reads: England 9, Zimbabwe 3, abandoned 3.

  • It was the 315th match for England and 156th match for Zimbabwe.

  • It was the first day-night match on this venue. Birmingham became England's third (after Bristol and Manchester) and 33rd venue in the world to host a day-night one-day international.

  • The hundred was the third for Stewart in his 130th match. His last hundred came against India at Sharjah on 11-12-1997 when he made 116.

  • Now only Australia's Adam Gilchrist has scored more hundreds as a keeper (5) than Stewart. Stewart went ahead of India's Rahul Dravid and Kenya's Kennedy Otieno who have scored two hundreds apiece in role of wicketkeeper.

  • Stewart became the first ever wicketkeeper to perform the allround double of a hundred and four dismissals in a match. The previous highest score by a keeper in which he made four victims as well, was 77 by Australia's Adam Gilchrist against India at Colombo SSC on 28-08-1999. Incidentally the previous best performance behind the wicket by a centurion was also on the name of Gilchrist who made 131 and then held three catches in the match against Sri Lanka at Sydney on 13-01-1999.

  • Stewart's innings (101) was the highest for England against Zimbabwe. This obliterated Graham Thorpe's 89 at Brisbane on 07-01-1995.

  • Stewart's innings was also the highest by any wicketkeeper against Zimbabwe. The previous highest was Sri Lankan Romesh Kaluwitharana's 99 at Harare on 18-12-1999. Incidentally the previous highest by an English keeper against Zimbabwe was only 41 also by Alec Stewart at Harare on 01-01-1997.

  • England's total (262 for 8) was its highest against Zimbabwe in all matches. This surpassed the previous highest of 249 for seven at Harare on 03-01-1997.

  • Guy Whittall, on 2, completed his 2000 runs in ODIs. He was playing his 103rd match and 100th innings. He became the fourth Zimbabwean after Andy Flower (4220 runs in 144 matches), Grant Flower (4022 in 131) and Alistair Campbell (3363 in 133) to do so. Whittall also became the 87th batsman in the world to reach this milestone.

  • Only Pakistan's Wasim Akram (165) and Moin Khan (111) and Sri Lanka's Romesh Kaluwitharana (111) have taken more innings than Guy Whittall to complete their 2000 runs (England's Ian Botham also took 100 innings to complete his 2000 runs).

  • The ninth wicket partnership of 31 runs between Heath Streak and Paul Strang was Zimbabwe's best for this wicket against England. This obliterated the 29 run-partnership between Gary Brent and John Rennie at Bulawayo on 18-02-2000.

  • Heath Streak's innings (45) was the second highest by a Zimbabwean batsman at batting position nine after Ian Butchart's 54 against New Zealand at Hyderabad on 10-10-1987.

  • Streak's innings was also the second highest by a batsman against England at number nine after India's Madan Lal's 53* at The Oval on 04-06-1982.

  • Alec Stewart won his seventh Man of the Match award.
