Ian Chappell: No point in having Ponting in a new-look team

If the selectors are looking to build a team for the future then Ponting must go, but the problem is that it's not great time to appoint Clarke. (00:00)

Misleading headline "Ian Chappell: No point in having Ponting in a new-look team". Chappell never said Ponting shouldn't be in the new look team. He is just suggesting that Ricky shouldn't be the captain of a new look team.

The penalty must have been heavier. Imagine if the batsman had been given out and he stands there arguing. You cannot have an captain who wants all decision in his favour. Ponting acts as if he is only correct be it in any disputed catches or in third umpire referrals. It should have been a match ban which would have been the case if lesser known nation were involved

ian is right !! it's time for the aussies to have a new skipper. point failed to lead from the front. moreover, his act with umpire aleem dar was totally unbecoming.

Chappell's correct for a change! The ICC and the governing bodies should never have allowed such behavior but then that always happens with players from certain countries. Now if a Harbhajan or a Sangakkara would've argued like that I'm sure they'd ve got 3 matches minimum!! Also, commentators like Chappell himself are guilty of elevating the level of players like Ponting, who was never the great batsman or captain he was made out to be. He just made hay while the sun was shining, it aint shining now is it Ricky? :-)

I totally agree.. Ponting is bad example and role model for younger generation.

This must be a tough series for Chappell to take as he had predicted a series win for Australia and a Ponting masterpiece, both of which will prove to have been wishful thinking. I hate to see him out there like that.
