View dismissal BB McCullum c Warner b Starc 34 81 51 7 0 66.66
15.6 Starc has a first wicket, and he couldn't have got a more explosive pair of names on the dismissal than McCullum and Warner! Short of a length again, and that natural angle and seam brings it back into McCullum, who can't resist the urge to cut, nay shred, the short ball even if it isn't wide enough. He ends up carving it straight to Warner at point and he's on his way. 56/2
View dismissal MJ Guptill c †Haddin b Siddle 13 58 34 1 0 38.23
10.5 the Aussies have struck, but it is Guptill who has fallen to an indiscretion outside off. 144 kph, classing seamer's dismissal, set up by a driving length ball a yard or so outside off. Guptill was drawn into the drive, it wasn't full enough for him to reach the pitch, and hence when it moved away it took the edge. Straight into Haddin's mitts. 44/1
View dismissal KS Williamson c Khawaja b Lyon 19 45 33 3 0 57.57
20.6 and gone. This was almost inevitable with that shuffle and nudge routine. Williamson again gets too far across the stumps mindful of Lyon's smart spin and drift. This one breaks in and bounces extra towards the hips again, and since he is so far across, Williamson can't keep the nudge down, and works it onto the thigh. He pops it amiably towards Khawaja, who happily makes up for the miss. 78/3
View dismissal LRPL Taylor* b Pattinson 14 33 15 3 0 93.33
23.4 New Zealand, what are you doing! Taylor gives Pattinson his first Test scalp and stumps are in a mess. Simple three-card bluff this, after landing the last two back of a length, Pattison goes really full outside off now and asks Taylor if he fancies a swing five minutes before lunch. Taylor takes him on, but he didn't get into the best position for a square drive. The front foot was in the next zip code as he drove wide, wide away from his body. Inside-edged it onto the furniture. 93/4
View dismissal JD Ryder c Warner b Starc 6 22 19 1 0 31.57
25.6 didn't Jesse have enough for lunch? He's already on his way back for more. The very epitome of a hare-brained shot. Short, miles wide outside off and he doesn't bother getting across for the cut. Just reaches out and smashes it in the air, the balance all awry, straight to gully. We have seen some poor shots today, and by the looks of it there's more to come. 96/5

View dismissal DL Vettori run out (Hussey) 96 186 127 9 0 75.59
68.6 from Lyon, Suicide! Vettori has ended his stay. The bowlers couldn't get him, but he's run himself out. He's gutted. He was thinking of the ton there, pushed a full ball straight to Hussey at mid-off and set off. That went too quickly to Hussey, who pounced on it and let rip in one fluid motion. The stumps were messed up before Vettori could dive in. He buries his head into the grass. He knows it. Need a crane to get him out of there. Tragedy! 254/6
View dismissal RA Young c Clarke b Siddle 2 5 5 0 0 40.00
69.5 and that's the end of that. Young's come and gone in a flash. Siddle continues to hit that lovely length outside off and seam it away. This time Young jabs at it with hard hands and it has the legs to carry easily into Clarke's hands in the slips. 256/7
View dismissal DAJ Bracewell c Clarke b Lyon 0 17 18 0 0 0.00
74.6 how well has Lyon bowled on his first trip to this ground? Bracewell is gone, playing for the spin against a deceptive over-spinner and that's an 18-ball duck. Lyon tossed this up outside off and it goes on straight to skim the outside edge, straight into first slip's hand. 259/8
View dismissal TG Southee c Hussey b Lyon 17 17 12 0 1 141.66
78.5 and that's the end of Southee's hand. He skates out again and looks to take Lyon downtown, but mishits the loft. Hussey comes in from long-on on gobbles it. And then he shines the ball as he sprints in to celebrate with his mates! Mr. Cricket! 290/9
View dismissal CS Martin b Lyon 1 15 12 0 0 8.33
82.5 Martin's gone, but after he's got one run more in his latest innings than Don Bradman did. Classical offspinner's dismissal from a classical offspinner. Lyon tosses it up and spins it in sharply, drawing Marto forward on the push-drive and it easily finds the bat-pad gap. 295/10

View dismissal DA Warner c †Young b Southee 3 4 3 0 0 100.00
1.1 Warner's gone and it is New Zealand's morning fair and square. Southee starts off with a bustling short ball from over the stumps, angling across at an uncomfortable angle. Stunningly well-directed bouncer that, but not the best example of how to play one either. Warner didn't seem keen on dropping the wrists. Not sure what he was trying to do. He was swaying back, with the hands in front of the chest, and the ball just kept coming at it. It took the glove and went straight into Young's bigger gloves. 3/1
View dismissal PJ Hughes c Guptill b Martin 10 27 19 1 0 52.63
6.1 gotcha with a ripper and a superb catch! Hughes has to go now. Martin sprints in and delivers on a perfect length, but it is almost outside leg. It then hits the seam and darts across, opening up Hughes and catching him completely out of balance as he looks to defend. It moved so much, it took the outside edge and flew low to gully. Guptill is among the best there, he dives forward and plucks it inches above the turf. 25/2
View dismissal UT Khawaja run out (Williamson) 38 125 77 3 0 49.35
27.1 Southee to Ponting, Khawaja is gone, I think! NZ have got a run out! Ponting jumps and nudges a short ball to the leg side, and speeds off. Khawaja seemed to take a while to react. Williamson was the personification of human light there. He charged in from midwicket, swooped on it, went sliding on his belly and under-armed the stumps down. The ball beat Khawaja's dive easy. Ponting's error completely, there was no need for that risky run first ball after tea. 91/3
View dismissal RT Ponting lbw b Martin 78 229 140 12 0 55.71
52.4 Ponting's knock has ended, trapped in front by Chris Martin. This one swung in and landed on middle and was moving towards leg, Ponting walked across a hint and tried to drive that through the on-side, towards midwicket, but missed. It struck him in line, and Aleem Dar raised his finger as Martin went up. Ponting called for a review, and replays showed the ball would have clipped leg stump. It was the umpire's call, and Dar's decision was upheld. 177/4
