2.5 to AN Cook, edged and taken! That's surely woken everyone up, Steyn tears off the wrapping paper and presents South Africa with a gift in his second over, the England captain on a plate! This did something off the pitch, jagging away as Cook fished at it and a thick edge travelled in slow motion safely into Elgar's midriff. 3/1
6.5 to AD Hales, too tight, a wafty cramped drive from Hales, who was looking to dominate and that's a soft, soft dismissal I'm afraid. A thick edge straight through to de Villiers, and Steyn is officially back!. 12/2
63.3 to JWA Taylor, big appeal and Steyn has got the breakthrough! Late on a back-foot push and just the thinnest of grazes through to the keeper. He has played a massive part in England's revival but his extraction has given South Africa a late adrenalin boost in the dying overs of the day .... 174/4
100.1 to ST Finn, pitched up, homing in on the stumps and Finn finally misses - it's good enough for Aleem Dar. Finn reviews but this was full enough and straight enough... Well, just about full enough, shown to be clipping the bails on umpire's call. So, with the extra half-hour all but expended, Steyn finishes England off for a not-too-shabby 303, which is perversely both better and worse than might have been expected. 303/10
2446612.751167101
90.4 to JM Bairstow, full outside off, Bairstow drives and gets a thick edge to diving second slip! Not much foot movement, threw the bat and that was the end of that, nine runs short of a fifty. The wickets they are a-tumbling, Abbott among them now. 267/9
2657642.921158012
71.3 to BA Stokes, short, pulled, but not middled at all, that spirals off a top-edge and Duminy at slip back-pedals to pouch a lobbed chance. Short and to the point from Stokes. He looked good while it lasted but he's gone now .... 196/5
85.5 to NRD Compton, banged in outside off, Compton goes for the pull... and has he feathered it through? Yes! He walks, no need for Tucker to make a decision. Just a thin under-edge, maybe didn't bounce quite as much as he was anticipating, and Morkel has his second of the morning. 247/6
87.3 to MM Ali, length outside off, Moeen prods at it - gottim! They check the no-ball but Morkel had a scrap of boot leather behind the line... Moeen was moved down from opener after failing to impress in the UAE but still ended up facing a newish ball and was again unequal to the challenge. Another for Morkel, a punchy one-two. 253/7
87.4 to CR Woakes, full and straight, thumps into the pads, there goes another! Woakes gambles on the review but he'll have to be extremely lucky to get away with this... It's clipping leg, that's all Morkel needed, the new batsman rooted to the crease and felled first ball! Make that a one-two-three for Marauding Morne, who's now on a hat-trick. 253/8
1626313.93649000
18.1 to JE Root, big appeal and Root has been given straight away! A massive moment, but Root is rightly taking a look ... it's a review. It is high on the pads but Root is right back in his crease. This could be tight. It's hitting the top of middle!. 49/3

0.2 to S van Zyl, bowled him! Round the wicket again, cramped for room on the angle, and van Zyl shoulders arms and loses his off stump! bad judgment, but exceptional planning ... and that was clearly a plan. 0/1
6.3 to HM Amla, another massive appeal, another perfect-length lifter on off stump, Amla's defences are half-formed once again, and this time there's no mistake! A thin tickle, Bairstow atones and South Africa's captain's woes continue!. 14/2
32.4 to AB de Villiers, edged and gone! That is due reward for persistence! Broad has refused to budge from his immaculate line outside off stump, and finds a thin edge! That might have been a legcutter, it held up a touch after pitching, and what a moment for the breakthrough!. 100/3
52.2 to T Bavuma, gone! Early strike for England, and it's Broad again! Perhaps a hint of low bounce outside off, it's just back of a length, Bavuma is playing off the back foot and drags a thick inside edge, almost toe-end of the bat, into his leg stump. 137/5
1412802.00662000
2536942.761123200
39.6 to F du Plessis, oh, bowled him! There it is, the Moeen sucker punch - you try to take him to the cleaners and end up in a sudsy mess. Du Plessis came galloping down the pitch, looking to emulate AB and Elgar, but missed by a mile and he would have been stumped (Bairstow pending) if the ball hadn't flicked the off bail out of its groove. So light was the touch, the bail actually fell forward. 113/4
57.3 to JP Duminy, what a delivery! That's a corker from Moeen. Perfect offspinner's dismissal. Pitched on middle and off, turns nicely, takes the outside edge and safely pouched by Stokes at slip. 150/6
59.3 to KJ Abbott, inside edge and pad to short leg, Moeen has his third! But it needed a review. Given not out on the field, England review straight away. A thick edge onto pad on replay, Taylor dives forward, making good ground, and takes it low to the turf. Should be a simple over-rule for the third umpire and indeed it is.. 156/7
77.6 to DW Steyn, temptation gets the better of him again... and this time it goes to hand! Steyn holes out to mid-off, though only after Woakes juggled a dolly of a catch! He cleared the front leg and tried to hit Moeen out of the park, only succeeded in giving him fourth wicket. 210/8
15.414923.12758000
81.1 to DL Piedt, lands him first ball, nicked through to the keeper! South Africa are nine down, that was a bit too rapid for Piedt, who prodded at it without moving his feet, and he won't be eclipsing his Test best of 13, never mind 92. 214/9
81.4 to M Morkel, edged and gone, Root clasps it in front of his face at second slip! Fast and full enough to draw Morkel into playing and that brings about an equally rapid demise, Finn finishing SA off shortly before the scheduled lunch break. They faff around checking for a return crease no-ball but there's no reprieve. 214/10

48.6 to NRD Compton, sprayed down the leg side, de Villiers holds this one - and up goes the finger! Compton's (second) stay of execution is brief, he was probably still trying to regain his equilibrium from the previous chance and he got a tickle on a leg glance. De Villiers blows through his lips in relief. 119/3
21.436212.861039000
70.4 to JE Root, and he's gone! Almost out of nowhere if I'm honest, Root had looked so solid. A length ball outside off and a half-hearted cut gets a top edge and is safely held at first slip. 192/4
36415354.2513010400
9.2 to AN Cook, and he's got him! Lovely bowling. After the one that turned it's the straighter ball that does the damage and traps Cook lbw as he prods forward. It slid past the inside edge and caught him low on the front pad. No review from Cook. 13/1
25.3 to AD Hales, no he doesn't... gone next ball, picking out long-on! Hales tried to assert himself but he didn't get a clean connection on it, not as much elevation as he needed and although the shot went hard and flat, Abbott was able to run across and take a well-judged catch. Piedt saw him coming and fired it flat and a little wider. 48/2
73.6 to BA Stokes, and this time the reverse sweep brings his downfall...a top edge (or maybe glove) loops to slip. Yes, it was glove. This time Elgar doesn't drop a dolly. Good response from Piedt. 197/5
79.6 to JWA Taylor, skips out, this time he's beaten past the outside edge - and de Villiers completes a simple stumping! Piedt bowled this nicely, got a bit of dip and the ball didn't turn this time, leaving Taylor stranded as he closed the face of the bat. 224/6
89.6 to MM Ali, gets down to sweep, struck on the pads... Dar shakes his head but, after a brief consultation, Amla signals for the review. This looks close but there's a question of whether it pitched/hit in line... Let's see what Hawk-Eye has to say: pitching on off stump, straightening on off stump and hitting off stump! That's a bingo!. 272/7
903203.55311100
10.132031.96472000
100.2 to CR Woakes, terrific catch! Woakes drove this very firmly, but Duminy moved swift to his left at short cover and grabbed the sharp chance. 315/8
100.4 to SCJ Broad, and he has another! Broad drives and gets a thin inside edge which is well held by de Villiers...England bat on. 315/9
102.1 to JM Bairstow, picks out long off...he was aiming for the hundred in positive manner, stayed deep in his crease and thundered a lofted straight drive but it didn't quite have the legs and is safely held by Duminy. 326/10

BOWLINGOMRWECON0s4s6sWDNB
1352912.23655000
70.6 to M Morkel, full and straight, pinned in front - Broad finishes it! Morkel reviews in the vain hope that some gremlin in the DRS will intervene, delaying England's fulfillment for a moment. It won't save Morkel, the ball struck him in line with off (umpire's call) and would have destroyed middle stump... Broad's celebrappeal was justified this time and England win by 241 runs to go 1-0 up in the series. 174/10
1052512.50504000
63.6 to DL Piedt, edged on to the pads, the ball loops up - and Taylor takes a simple catch running to his left! Woakes has a wicket at last, Piedt's dogged little knock is over and England are on the brink of victory. 155/9
1564242.80748000
20.2 to HM Amla, massive wicket! Not a great shot from Amla. Short of a length outside off, he flashed away from his body, not fully committed to the cut stroke and Bairstow takes the catch moving to his right. 85/2
22.4 to D Elgar, he has another! Edges a full delivery to second slip. Sharp catch from Root in iffy light. Elgar stands for a moment. Perhaps he thought he edged it into the ground, but that's clearly a regulation edge. He jabbed at the ball, wide outside off, without footwork...an odd shot given all the outstanding judgement he has shown in this match. It may have bounced out of the footmarks. Ah, it certainly disturbed the surface. 88/3
46.3 to F du Plessis, extra bounce, du Plessis plays... and he's gone, taken at slip! What a breakthrough, brilliant delivery from Finn and Cook does not blink at the chance, England have knocked another brick out of the wall in the dying moments of the day! It was a ripper of a delivery from Finn, coaxing something extra out of the surface, enough to breach du Plessis' barricades at last. 136/4
52.3 to DW Steyn, off stump goes back! Another one past the edge, and this time it's straight...Steyn pushing down the wrong line, great sight for Finn as the timber goes timber. Magnificent bowling from Finn, worked him over completely. 138/7
712613.71345000
10.5 to S van Zyl, bowled him, top of off! That's what Ben Stokes can do for you, even on one leg... for the second time in the match van Zyl is done by the perfect line and length, although this time there were some questions about his defensive technique, as he left enough of a gap between bat and pad for the ball to sneak through. 53/1
2694731.801306000
47.3 to AB de Villiers, AB's been given lbw! Moeen round the wicket, it skids on and he's struck as he plays back. Has it pitched in line? de Villiers calls for the review straightaway. It disturbed the surface and kept low, too. This doesn't look good for AB. He is a long way back in his crease. It's in line and clipping leg stump, he's gone!. 136/5
49.3 to T Bavuma, stumping for Bairstow! Not quite redemption, perhaps, but very close. Lovely bowling from Moeen. He slides this across the outside edge as Bavuma advances down the pitch, it doesn't turn like the de Villiers chance and Bairstow gathers it comfortably and savours the moment. 136/6
55.3 to KJ Abbott, that's dead! Caught played back in his crease. Ball straightened a little. That was hitting the middle and of middle I reckon. 143/8
