Worrin Williams, the right-arm fast bowler, was elevated to a rookie contract in 2007-08 and held the deal the following year. Williams was picked in Beenleigh-Logan's first-grade team as a 17-year-old and captured 27 wickets at 23.30 in 2006-07, adding another 37 victims in the next campaign to lead the Brisbane competition. An Australian Indigenous XI representative, he is the first player from Queensland's Imparja Cup squad to be given a state contract. "It's very early days, but he is certainly a young player with potential," Ray Phillips, the chairman of selectors, said in 2007. "We've tested him at Cricket Australia Cup level and in some other games and we like what we've seen so far." If Williams continues to improve he may line up with Andy Bichel, who is Williams' most-admired sports person. The Williams family is from the Mununjali Tribe from around the Beaudesert area.
