Mitchell Starc is one of the many exciting young fast bowlers coming out of New South Wales. A tall left-armer, he generates plenty of pace and bounce, and also possesses the ability to bring the ball back into the right-hander. These skills have made him one of the most promising young fast bowlers in Australia. Apart from these talents, his batting skills are pretty reasonable too, and he fell just one short of a Test century in Mohali during the 2013 tour to India.

In his short international career so far, Starc has been an especially potent wicket-taking option in ODIs. In his first 17 one-day internationals, he managed three five-wicket hauls, including those in successive matches against West Indies in Perth. He has also shown that he can be a force in less responsive conditions, taking nine wickets in three games against Pakistan in the UAE.

Starc made his first-class debut in 2008-09, picking up two wickets against Western Australia. His performances for Western Suburbs and the state 2nd XI earned him the elevation and he replaced the suspended Aaron Bird for the final match of the season. Starc, who stands at 1.96m, gained a spot at the Centre of Excellence in the off-season in 2009. In eight Sheffield Shield games in the 2009-10 season he captured 21 wickets, including a best of 5 for 74 against Queensland, and also chipped in with a half-century.
