Sri Lanka in finals after nine-run win

734

Sri Lanka 238 (Chandimal 75, Sangakkara 64, Thirimanne 51, Christian 5-31, Pattinson 4-51) beat Australia 229 (D Hussey 74, Watson 65, Malinga 4-49) by nine runs
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Sri Lanka entered this match with their fate in their own hands. It turns out those are pretty safe hands. Not even a hat-trick from Daniel Christian, a four-wicket comeback from James Pattinson, a captain's half-century from Shane Watson or a remarkable, late, fighting fifty from David Hussey could prevent Sri Lanka from winning the last qualifying match at the MCG. Lasith Malinga led a strong bowling performance to complete Sri Lanka's nine-run victory, which propelled them into the tri-series finals.

No doubt Australia were disappointed, for they must now enter the best-of-three deciders knowing they have lost their previous three games to their Sri Lankan opponents. But India would have been even more gutted. An Australia win would have sent Sri Lanka packing and secured India a place in the finals. Instead, MS Dhoni's men will now fly home at the weekend, ending a disheartening three-month tour.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have a chance to win a tri-series in Australia for the first time at their ninth attempt. Their total of 238 at the MCG, set up by half-centuries from Dinesh Chandimal, Kumar Sangakkara and Lahiru Thirimanne, seemed a fraction skinny on what looked like a reasonable batting surface. But despite losing Thisara Perera to injury during his first over, Sri Lanka's total proved defendable with Malinga in their attack.

Not that it was straightforward. Hussey's run-a-ball 74 nearly snatched victory for Australia. They needed 10 runs from the final over, bowled by Kulasekara, but Hussey holed out to long-off from the first ball of it and Sri Lanka celebrated. They had been on top early, when Australia were 3 for 26 after Malinga and Kulasekara troubled the top order, but then Australia fought back.

Batting at first drop, the stand-in captain Watson - Michael Clarke was not risked ahead of the finals - led Australia's fightback with a solid, composed 65 and he had good support from Michael Hussey (29). But once their 87-run stand was broken, Australia struggled again.

Michael Hussey has proven a handy partnership breaker with his slow-medium bowling recently and this time he was on the receiving end of a similar ploy, as Thirimanne drew an edge behind that was well taken by Sangakkara. It was Thirimanne's first international wicket and his second in all List A cricket, and importantly for Sri Lanka it was followed a few overs later by the departure of Watson.

Watson had brought up his half-century from his 61st delivery with a straight drive off Thirimanne and he had been strong when the bowlers had strayed too straight, but he was in no particular hurry. His innings, an encouraging one in his second match back from a long injury lay-off, ended when he played all around a fast, straight Malinga ball that knocked middle stump out of the ground.

David Hussey kept Australia afloat and did a fine job but his partners gradually dwindled. His fifth half-century of the series shot him to the top of the tournament runs tally but it wasn't quite enough for Australia, whose innings started with the loss of both David Warner and Matthew Wade, who had been reunited as the opening pair. Warner (6) slapped Malinga to short cover, a strange shot to a ball that sat up on him, and Wade was lbw for 9 to Kulasekara, before Peter Forrest tickled a catch behind for 2 when he tried to cut Malinga.

It was just the start Sri Lanka needed in the field after posting 238. Their three half-centuries at the top of the order made for a lopsided scorecard as the lower order struggled, especially against Christian, who collected a career-best 5 for 31 and wrote himself into the record books as the first player from Australia since Brett Lee in 2003 to take an ODI hat-trick, and the fourth overall alongside Lee, Bruce Reid and Anthony Stuart.

Christian was mobbed by his team-mates after completing the feat, which began when Thisara Perera skied a ball and was taken at deep midwicket by Michael Hussey, who caught the ball inside play, tossed it up before he fell over the rope and completed the catch after stepping back in. The ball had gone so high that the batsmen had crossed twice, leaving the new man Sachithra Senanayake on strike instead of the established Thirimanne.

Senanayake was lbw first ball and replays indicated the ball would have gone on to hit leg stump. The same could not have been said for the next delivery. Rod Tucker raised his finger to give Kulasekara lbw but the ball appeared to be sliding down leg side and replays confirmed it was a poor decision. Christian didn't care. It was a hat-trick, and they are rare.

Thirimanne (51) was good enough to help Sri Lanka survive their quota of overs, falling only in the penultimate over when he played on while trying to paddle sweep Pattinson. Rangana Herath remained 14 not out and Malinga was bowled off the last ball of the innings to give Christian his fifth wicket.

By batting out their time Sri Lanka ensured that the efforts of Sangakkara and Chandimal were not wasted. They had put on 123 for the third wicket and Chandimal was the more aggressive partner. He continued his good series and brought up his fifty off his 47th delivery with a glanced single off Clint McKay, before Sangakkara registered his in the same over from his 79th ball. Throughout his innings, Sangakkara had been in no hurry and didn't score a boundary until his 55th delivery, when he punched Ben Hilfenhaus forward of point.

His runs came largely through ones and twos and it was an important stabilising performance after Sri Lanka were 2 for 17. Sangakkara fell for 64 when he top-edged a pull off Pattinson, and his departure slowed Chandimal down. Chandimal was out for 75 from 84 when he too was beaten by the pace of Pattinson, lobbing a ball to mid-off.

Chandimal had been willing to play his strokes and he brought the crowd to life with a muscular hit that sailed straight over the head of the bowler Christian and crashed into the sightscreen. Another followed off the spin of Xavier Doherty, over long-on this time, and Chandimal spent most of his time hovering around the run-a-ball mark.

As it turned out, the Chandimal-Sangakkara combination was just what Sri Lanka needed after Mahela Jayawardene was run out early thanks to a poor call by Tillakaratne Dilshan, who followed by edging Pattinson behind. At that point, Sri Lanka were wobbling. But they will enter the finals with stability, and form against Australia, on their side.

@supadupamonk, No bro. its not same. remember 1996 semi finals where you guys did not allow to complete the match. Kyle_Jones235 - you're spot on with your comments. Golubhai clearly doesn't take defeat very well, although you'd think he'd be used to it by now after the Aussies humiliated them 4-0. Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka all had to rebuild their teams after losing big star names to retirement, but have all emerged well. I think India are in for a big reality check when this happens to them, and it isn't far off. Never mind Golubhai, you just sit there and keep writing "Tendulkar is the greatest, Tendulkar is the greatest...."....boring!

The best two teams in the tournament went to the finals. Congrats to both of them. As far as Indian team is concerned, i think its high time BCCI and selectors acknowledge the slide. The previous 2-3 years were great for the indian team, when they won test matches and one day tournaments around the world and it finally culminated in world cup win. Things have changed, two huge series thrashings are too much to ignore. Un-Fortunately the proposed changes to the Ranji format and team selection for Asia cup has been disappointing.

@golubhai Stop being a sore loser and face reality buddy. Sri lanka have come to this series and played very consistent cricket, they were only beaten easily in one game, and all other games they lost were by close margins. But look at your team, they have been thrashed conistently this whole series... In the series before this, India lost 4-0, whilst Sri Lanka was in South Africa and only lost 2-1 which is much more respectable. Anyone that looks at it in an unbiased way will say that Sri Lanka deserved to be in the finals and India deserved to go home, simple as that.

Indian fans are living in the past, that is why they still think their team are "World Champions", and that is why they hold onto useless players of the past like Tendulkar and Sehwag. Why would you even think that Australia would want to meet SL in the final over India? Sri Lanka has beaten the Aussies in the last 3 games they played... In the last 7 games SL has played in Aus they have beaten Aus 5 times. Whilst India got tharshed 4-0 in the tests against Aus, and have been equally thrashed by them in the ODI series... It's time to face the facts Indian fans, stop making lame excuses for your team and face reality.

What happnd to most of your comments when India thrashed SL in Hobart......SL has never been a gud team agnst India whether on flat tracks or fast Track(in aus. you lost 2-1 to india)... Just pray to god tht in Asia cup there is rain or something agnst India otherwise your fans wouldn't get chance to comment abt India.. And guys australia is not a home for India nor SL then also you got tht thrashing agnst india so don't say india wins only at there home.....

  • on March 3, 2012, 18:20 GMT

hmmm... given how bad everyone thinks india were, it says something abt the quality of the sri lankan side tht all tht separated india and a place in the final was tht one run less india scored in the game against sl.... which means tht one ball less they got in tht same game probably did seal their fate eventually more than anything else....

@atxyz something something. England tour last year 3-2 Sri Lanka lost. The final match went to the 49th over or the 50th over. So yeah, they did quite well in the English tour even though they lost it. Can't speak much of the Indian team that toured there. Even the Test series was 1-0 affair. Yep, the Sri lankans have thrashed the English 5-0. I don't know if any of the other subcontinent teams have such a record.

  • jmcilhinney on March 3, 2012, 13:58 GMT

Ha! Where are RandyOZ and jonesy2? They are so quick to comment on stories about England playing Pakistan yet they have nothing to say about a match in which their own beloved Australia were playing. I'm sure we'll see them back if Australia win the finals but not so sure we will if they lose.

  • on March 3, 2012, 12:06 GMT

While the best two teams of the tournament do end up in the finals my question is about the Indians, who are exitting with a bang: 1- Why the sulking/not leaving when given out? Kohli may be a good batsman but why does the management tolerate his behaviour? Sachin etc. have always walked when given out without questioning the umpire. Does Kohli think he is above the game? The selectors should drop him for a few matches just to make sure he lgets his orientation right. You are not gods gift to the country, but it is an honour for you to play for your country. 2- Why the continuous objections to the DRS? Any team wishing to win or lose fairly would be expected to welcome technology that improves the quality of umpiring decisions.

Yesterday, the third wicket in the hat trick was a howler. Sri Lanka again suffered at the hand of that pakistani umpire who not only ruled hussey not out at a critical juncture, but went on to warn the bowler for "over" appealing, when drs said OUT!

  • SR_Band on March 3, 2012, 12:04 GMT

Well India has a good team no doubt about that, but the thing is they only win games in flat tracks. they proved it in this tour, they were in Aus from last Dec that means almost 3 months but they only won 4 games out of 14(4test, 2t20 and 8odi). Sad part is India team and Indian fans don't understand that, well there are few Indians with back borns to accept that but most of them only talk about the last game they played against SL on Hobart dead track. After 1st 2 games SL played some real good cricket and showed they are the real deal. Thats why I think SL team is much better than Ind team.

  • Nkaykay on March 3, 2012, 11:22 GMT

  • dariuscorny on March 3, 2012, 11:06 GMT

Australia did a huge favour to SL by deliberately losing as they alwys wanted to face SL in the finals.now they wud see a real Australia.SL deep down their heart know the fact they cannot undo Aus in the finals .it wud be done and dusted in favour of Aus.coz India and Pak are more dangerous teams in the subcontinent as both of them hv power hitters down the order its a fact.

@Kalidas: mate, yes SL fans are bidding farewell to Indian team. All those were provoked by the few pundits among the Indian fans who started bashing our team at the beginning of the tournament. We all honour good cricket and great team spirit. SL team didn't wash their dirty linen in public, like Shewag did. We admitted our mistakes on Tuesday's game and bounced back on Friday. For those who say that SL was lucky, thanks but no thanks. Within the rules of the game, even with older rules (where NRR comes to play), SL is among the best two. Get over with it and do well in Asia cup. Try to win it without lame excuses.

  • on March 3, 2012, 10:03 GMT

There should be consistency in the statments whenver your team win or lose this msg for both Indian and SL,I do respect indian teams capabilty with the aspect of batting only and do respect of SL all round performnce , spacialy i would like to add the Chanidmal who first time is visting the Austrlia and highest run scorer in the series inspite of so many batting star in the series, indian team has been exposed actually very badly, its true that Kholi is a class player but attitude make the differnce.Indians home champions only, they need to have depth in bowling dept which remain unresolved issue since this team appear in cricket.

  • csowmi7 on March 3, 2012, 9:45 GMT

Sri Lanka believe that they are superior to India after making the final. At the moment they are playing better cricket that too only in this series. Sri Lanka have had a poor run till now also. lets see if Sri lanka can win the cb series first, next world cup, win a test in australia, come to the top in the test rankings, win the t20 world cup, and draw a series in South Africa. Then we can talk about Sri Lanka being as good a cricket team as India. They are merely counting their chickens before they hatch.

  • LankaFTW on March 3, 2012, 8:54 GMT

@EPJayapaul I am sorry I am not sure what you mean by your comment of "The Aussies would rather face the Lankan's then the unpredictable Indians." But why would the Aussies want to face a team in the finals that has consistently beat them in matches? However they were able to beat India in almost all occasions except for the one ODI the Aussies lost to India. I am sure the Aussies would have wanted India in the finals because they have consistently been beating them.

Sachith Hasanga Senevirathna and @Champika Dissanayake the same advice goes to your people as well....it is easy to advice when ur winning my friend but when ur losing its a different story......we too love cricket very much like we love our country....when your team was losing matches under Dilshan lot of ur fans started commenting against him, that is what continous defeat will do to u...you need a change, our peeple need a change in the Indian cricket team we dont hate our players we just want to give chances to other young cricketers as well who are not able to make to the national team due to the filthy polictics that is happening right now...this is a lean patch our Indian team is going thru and we are sure that they will get over it soon....our team is a unique team which can do the impossible what most team dont even think...that is the speciality of Indian team...

Some of the comments are really funny , Cpt Meanster is a hardcore anti Indian or just loves to comment without knowing the history of cricket. Indians have won Test Matches tied series in Australia , SA and even won in England, whereas SRI Lanka has never won a match in Aus , for the first time won a match in SA and have beaten England only when they were not a great team as they are now. India had won the CB Series last time and the last match which australia played they lost deliberately as they dint want to face india, mark my words dude Sri Lanka will be beaten 2- 0 in the finals, Please again repeatedly I am telling the people around the world dont be so negative about India they are world class.

I'd like to thank all the fans who cheered for SL from all over the world. As for the few Indians who denigrated us, it looks like the so-called "punching bags" have made it to the finals while the world champs are flying home. not bad, huh? ;)

Best team of the day do win the match some fans need to grow up.

history is behind us.New crop of players in Sri Lankan team would make Sri Lankan s Proud. May be some lesson for Indian selectors. Bye.

  • ham1990 on March 3, 2012, 6:19 GMT

@CNBAS5 I totally agree with you about SL losing in India. The main reason being that India are flat track bullies at home, and it's their backyard. I'm sure the whole cricketing world, including myself expected India to win the WC at home, after all it was played where they are most comfortable. Notwithstanding India definitely do have the talent to do well overseas, but let's face it, they weren't good enough in Australia to beat Australia having spent almost 3 months in the country. You have to give SL credit for their consistency and getting into the finals, as the commentators said they have been the form team thus far.

As an Indian supporter, I just dont understand why Indian fans think that our team deserves to be in finals. In 2008, we played better cricket(both test and one-day) and were the deserving winners. But in 2011/2012, our team was pathetic - badly led, dissension in the team, crazy team selection and the big elephant Sachin in the Indian dressing room. Congrats Sri Lanka for showing us the door - Dhoni, the politician, deserves to be kicked but BCCI wouldnt do that! The two 2 teams will play the finals and may the best team win!! PS: I can understand why Aussies dont like Indians because of the history of controversies between IND/AUS. But I am surprised why Sri Lankan fans also dont like India. I have lots of good Sri Lankan friends and they dont appear so anti - India, may be somebody can explain this antipathy towards Indians.

  • atthipatti on March 3, 2012, 6:00 GMT

Would've loved to see an India vs Australia finals like last time. But SL thoroughly deserved a spot in the finals. Though I don't like their players' and "fans'" attitude, liked the way they fought till the end to defend an average total. I feel its a blessing in disguise to my team India after all this humiliation mated out to them, for at least I hope them not to be complacent of their high status and their loyal fan-boys in the future...Would want my favorite player ever SRT to retire asap, the 100th 100 doesn't matter to prove he is way ahead of all!!!

  • on March 3, 2012, 5:58 GMT

Indain fans should shut their mouth to say bad things against SL. The time proves, the team which is more balance, wins the games. This team time india is with senior citizen with their limping legs can not proves, so SL moved to Finals. The players of the series is Chandimal and I am very much impressed with his paly making...

  • buccinator on March 3, 2012, 5:56 GMT

@ Wick.roy, It should be 'LANKAN LIONS' not Tigers. You know we have ERASED the TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yorokobi-Fan on March 3, 2012, 5:49 GMT

Well done Sri Lankan team...!!! You deserve the CB series trophy defeating Aussies........!!!

  • CRmadrid on March 3, 2012, 5:46 GMT

My fellow Indians, why don't you concentrate on your team & their so called Gods' heroics..rather than coming here & giving your stupid predictions about the finals..

  • LankaFTW on March 3, 2012, 5:38 GMT

CNBASS you surely haven't been watching the CB series that closey if you can't recall that Sri Lanka have won more matches then India. The world cup is the past. Before last years world cup do you remember when India won it last? Lanka at least won it in 1996 and will win it in 2015.

India can only win in India, they had 2 months to adopt to Australian Pitches and yet they couldn't. Do you know where the next world cup is being held? In Australia where India couldn't pull off a consistent performance. The Indian top order should just start playing in Wheelchairs soon because they are so old and aren't as agile on the field as the Aussies and the Lankan's have been all summer.

CNBASS I suggest you stop being such a sore looser and realize that your beloved India haven't performed and are probably on a flight back to India right now, whereas Lanka are going to play the Final on Sunday.

  • Lakpj on March 3, 2012, 5:17 GMT

Now India can go home and their good for nothing flat track bullies can start piling up runs on their dead pitches. Now with SL in the finals we can at least see a competitive series. If India was there, it could have been a repeat of the summer. India getting bullied from the hands of Aus.

  • on March 3, 2012, 5:10 GMT

CNBAS5: Do u realy think hitting sixes and batting on flat pitches make good cricketers? Whatever u say, India lost man. Now they have 2 pack up @ leave. Bye bye India. Not 2 forget, there are very important things called retirement, age, teamwork and consistency. Indians don't know these. They believe in legends, cricket playing Gods, individual stats and miracles. After Sachin, there won't be a single cricket legend in ur country. Unfortunate for u, he will be gone soon.

Simply BRILLIANT!! Mahela, I have never seen Leadership coming to the fore as I did last afternoon. Definitely would have been my choice for Man of the Match. But yesterday is history. We need to look ahead at how to get things back on track for tomorrow. Remember there are a billion fans cheering and urging you !!

Going back to favours, Thank you for the favour of bringing India down to reality.Cutting short their agony. They are staring at many problems and need to sort them out fast! coming to the finals would have only pushed these issues under the carpet.

  • on March 3, 2012, 5:00 GMT

    Swami-jii I love your comments!!!!

  • on March 3, 2012, 4:56 GMT

I though this report is prepared by an Indian reporter because "But India would have been even more gutted. An Australia win would have sent Sri Lanka packing and secured India a place in the finals." quote. But it is not. Can't you feel it as a biased statement. Mind it, Sri Lankans are at top of the table. Please don't make such statements in future.

  • grangana on March 3, 2012, 4:54 GMT

Well....This match proves exactly that sri lanka let india win that match on tuesday....Main reason is otherwise IPL wouldnt have got any crowds with india losing all....Now as you can see these indian fans are talking about that one victory....As most srilankan players are playing in the IPL they dont want india to go home as losers and screw up the IPL....This goes to show you guys that Srilankans can do whatever they wants....POOR INDIA... :D

  • EPJayapaul on March 3, 2012, 4:54 GMT

The Srilankan Win - It is a case of the Aussies batted badly than the Srilankan bowled & fielded well. Looks like Aussies prefer Srilanka than the unpredictable Indians... Anyway It will be a nice contest... Following three consecutive defeats at the hands of Srilanka one has to wait and watch the Aussie tactics..

  • on March 3, 2012, 4:52 GMT

in this series i saw something wrong done by indians..they look to attack Sl, not to aussies..if they had won a one game against aussies. then ausies wipe out today and Sl and india forward to final...sure it'll be final of Ind vs Sl..that's why india not deserve the final..they are not taking aussies..so it's unhappy.. for me...not the final of Ind vs SL...but it's all ended now..will see Sl lift the cup..........

  • on March 3, 2012, 4:50 GMT

@kyle jones, didnt hear this 'flat/oval/fruity/square/dead/alive' pitches comments when india wins on perth/hobart or when skinny bowlers take 8 wickets on other park grass pitches lol

  • CNBAS5 on March 3, 2012, 4:32 GMT

India need not make a knee jerk and change the team apart from bringing Manoj Tewari. Surely Tendlya will get his 100th ton soon and many to follow after that. Surely SL will get punched really hard in India.Revisit that painful lose against India in the finals!!! not so long ago.

  • CNBAS5 on March 3, 2012, 4:29 GMT

Good Luck to SL who will lose and can not win after reaching tri nation series final for nearly 3/4 dozen times. India has already won this in Aus soil. You SL fans forgot that glorious six to win the WORLD CUP by India and got pulversied just two days ago in which a few best bowlers of SL forgot Cricket totally. That moment was very enjoyable although India flopped in the hands of Aus NOT SL.

  • kankauupi on March 3, 2012, 4:04 GMT

Well done to the Sri Lankan team. A well deserved victory. A nice Friday morning after gloomy four days in Melbourne, the sight of the MCG from my desk at work and knowing there would be thousands of Lankans to support our guys, I just couldn't concentrate at work. So I made the decision to go to the game just hours before it started. Im so glad I did.... I just knew it was our day !!!

  • kavinga86 on March 3, 2012, 4:02 GMT

All the best Sri Lanka. Whatever the result is SL Team is always loved by us. All the best Mahela, Sanga, Dilshan and team.. Make us proud..

  • Master_Mihil on March 3, 2012, 3:58 GMT

In the Last Tri-nation tournament in australia which india won (2008) the 12 th and the last game was held between Srilanka and Australia, just like this match at MCG. SL did poorly in the series and already out of the tournament, but they won the last match defending 226 and blistering knock of 88 couldn't save aussies from loosing. And they went on to loose the next 2 finals 2 India. So practically SL started Aus loosing streak. Let's see if history will repeat itself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cpt.Meanster on March 3, 2012, 3:56 GMT

@Kyle_Jones235: I can clearly see the ignorance in your words. I don't care what you think because it's evident you don't know much about cricket. India have so called 'flat' and 'dead' tracks because of the history and nature of the soil content found on the sub-continent. India can never produce the kind of pitches you have in Australia and SA. Unless there is Judgement Day all over again and the world is recreated anew. Having said that, India are DAMN GOOD at home. Instead of whining about that, how about teams send capable players to match India at home? so far every team has failed to do that. So where lies the mistake ? at the same time, India are also aware they are not doing justice to their ability in overseas tours. The problem has been a part of Indian cricket for ages. It seems you are naive about the past. Most teams have been poor away from home, India are just targeted because of their fan following.

  • on March 3, 2012, 3:56 GMT

  • on March 3, 2012, 3:54 GMT

  • frank2011 on March 3, 2012, 3:45 GMT

Well done to the Lions! And kudos to the little general (Mahela) for leading his troops to victory. Its hard enough to defend a low total in batting track, but its even harder when you loose two of your bowlers and still manage to defend it. I think the wonderful atmosphere in the MCG from their supporters last night boosted the lions. I think every Sri Lankan living in Melbourne turned up for the game :) I'm expecting an epic conclusion to this tri-series between two great cricketing nations. I just wished that they played the finals in the MCG or SCG. Fans of all three sides would have filled up the stadiums for the finals with no trouble, and more importantly, I could have attended :) But I'll still be glued to the TV (and to cricinfo when at work :) ) to see how our summer cricket season concludes. May the best team win!

  • spot_on on March 3, 2012, 3:26 GMT

I don't think SL will stand a chance against the aussies in the finals... its 2-1 to Aussies now

  • kr_kinshuk on March 3, 2012, 3:07 GMT

india were the worst of three shaky teams... so, they r out of the finals.... neither were they as much worse than the other two sides as the lankans would like to believe nor were the indians unlucky to not make it to the finals.......

india was very poor against australia. but they pulled off a win against them...

lanka did not win a single game against india. but they were very good against the aussies....

all in all, one of the more evenly contested CB series that i've seen... good 4 sri lanka... the last time these 3 sides were playing down under they were nowhere in the picture... so they've improved... india need to build a fresh side... they need to take some hard decisions...

  • drvp on March 3, 2012, 2:52 GMT

  • Micgyver on March 3, 2012, 2:44 GMT

Well done Sri Lanka. They deserve to play Australia in the final. Its a shame that India's best batting display was their last. Its been a long long tour for them(2.5 months) which is probably much too long. Sadly i agree with Kyle_Jones235...the cycle will continue.

  • on March 3, 2012, 2:43 GMT

Great to see Sri Lanka in final. but i think Aussies need to drop David Warner he showed that he cannot play against good quality bowling. he was good only against some very ordinary bowling of Indians. Clark in and warner out for the finals

  • gularan on March 3, 2012, 2:38 GMT

Just one cotton- picking word about the rules of the CB series for future reference. Do not ,repeat, DO NOT ever take the net run rate out of the equation when the finalists have to be chosen. Just imagine INDIA with a -ve run rate going thro to the finals. That would have been the unkindest cut of all. POWERS THAT BE please keep this in mind for the next series.

  • SamuelThorpe7 on March 3, 2012, 2:14 GMT

Well Done SL !! Great game. Very happy for my SL brothers :) and Many Indian fans will also feel SL deserved to go to finals after the kinda of recent few series theyve had and the last two world cup finals. SL supporters needed this win desperatley. India didnt play to their potential and will be disappoiinted but they showd glimpses of what they can do in the Hobart Humdigger. Kohli's innigs was the best Ive seen from an Indian batsmen under pressure and one of the most beautiful wristplay Ive seen for a long time. Kohli will win big games for India. They showd why they were favs and won the world cup easily. Cannot wait for the Asia cup and ICC World T20. If the Hobart game was the turnaround the Indian team needed, we will see some firwerks at Dhaka. Bad Tour India but having to chase in every game under lights is not easy as we saw last night. Now the Indian fans will feel they should win in Dhaka. No reason they cant. Forget the last two tours and India has been as good as anybody

  • on March 3, 2012, 2:06 GMT

Bravo, Sri Lanka! So good to see you guys pick yourselves up off the floor at last post-Murali. Here's one Englishman (& I'm sure there are many others) who'll be cheering for you in the finals. The Asian pecking order (in ODIs, if not necessarily in Tests) is now pretty clear: 1. Sri Lanka; 2. Pakistan; 3. Bangladesh; 4. India.

  • Sinhaya on March 3, 2012, 1:34 GMT

  • maddy20 on March 3, 2012, 1:31 GMT

@Dadu786 Every great team has a downtime. Don't worry India will be back to form in the Asia Cup.

  • PW-Roolz on March 3, 2012, 1:29 GMT

As as Sri Lankan I am happy to see us in final. It is sad to see some the rhetoric berating the Indian team, who has not enjoyed watching Sachin or Sewag at their peak, the Indian fans should be proud of their achievement and maybe encourage them to pass on their knowledge and when they are ready gracefully exit. Their past contributions should entitle them to plaudits, their current dip in form attributed to a change in fortune. Ability does not go away it may diminish with age, I would think that many of the aging superstars could easily hold their against many of the up and coming future stars.

  • birdz_eye on March 3, 2012, 1:29 GMT

Well Played SL you deserved to be in the finals not the Star Studded Indian side cuz in that case all interest would have been vanish from the finals. World Champs (at home) are to pack their bags to run for their glorious IPL. All the best for SL in their rebuilding as we Team Pakistan are trying hard to climb up the ladder patiently.

  • on March 3, 2012, 1:22 GMT

Although I'm an Indian, I feel it's good that Sri Lanka won the game and went to the finals. India were consistently superior to SL in head-to-head games, but h-t-h games, in isolation, mean nothing when more than two teams are involved. In the context of the tournament, Sri Lanka are best team team. I hope they go on to win the CB series too, which they should now, given how they have made Aussies their bunnies. Good luck to Sri Lanka.

  • Sankara on March 3, 2012, 1:20 GMT

Congratualations Sri Lanka. You are the deserving finalists. And seriously, India were several notches below. It is not enough to have a flash in the pan brilliance, kind of performances. Indians simply lacked the consistancy in all departments of the game. Come on Lions, will be supporting you inthe finals!!

  • Kyle_Jones235 on March 3, 2012, 0:55 GMT

Sri Lanka got thrashed ONCE this Aussie summer, whilst India got tharashed CONSISTENTLY this summer. There is a huge difference. Now the Indians can go home and start bullying other teams on their flat, dead pitches in front of hundreds of thousands of ignorant cheering fans who will instantly forget all their failures and refer to them as "Gods" once more... And hence the cycle continues.

  • maximus1982 on March 3, 2012, 0:50 GMT

well done lions.......its good to see you playing positive cricket...but the bet thing happen in this tournament is sending indian team back home empty handed. india is good at home, they must understand they lack the killer punch in overseas matches. sri lanka won 3 times in australis against australia ..which is great.

  • willmot on March 3, 2012, 0:48 GMT

Sack Srikanth and his flat track bully's Gambhir,Sehwag,Raina & Tendulkar in that order.

  • tennakoon63 on March 3, 2012, 0:42 GMT

The Aussies would have preferred India to be in the final because they know it will be a one horse race for them. But with Sri Lanka getting into the final, they will now have to fight hard. Well done Sri Lanka. You guys have reached tri-series finals in past 9 times with out success. this time try to break that jinx and win the trophy. Good luck.

  • Laki1993 on March 3, 2012, 0:38 GMT

The reason Sri Lanka are in the final is that they finished top of the table between the 3 teams. India went out because they finished bottom.

There are some stupid bitter comments from Indian cricket "fans" here; playing outstandingly well in 1 game only doesn't warrant a place in the final. Consistency and winning more games in the league format was the reason Sri Lanka qualified.

Thankfully, there are gracious comments from a vast majority of Indian fans offering generous congratulations to Sri Lanka and pointing the finger at the Indian team for playing without passion.

  • on March 3, 2012, 0:13 GMT

  • ham1990 on March 3, 2012, 0:13 GMT

The best 2 teams are playing in the final. Plain and simple. India were not consistent enough despite the Kohli blitz at Hobart (he is one to watch for the future, and definitely going to be in the class of Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar etc). On the other hand, well played SL, it's a breath of fresh air to see them succeed after a horrid 2011 post World Cup. All the best to both teams!

  • on March 3, 2012, 0:02 GMT

Sri Lanka are more likely to defeat Australia at the moment in Australia in the finals than India would, so I Think this is going to be a good couple of ODIs..... One of the closest tournaments I have seen in a while... I guess India will have to reflect on a few things before they move forward, but Virat Kohli has shown that he is the next generation player for India, which is promising.

  • FanOfLions on March 3, 2012, 0:00 GMT

  • on March 2, 2012, 23:54 GMT

India has good guns and ammunations too Virat,Ghambir, but in my point of view most of players going to play individually. If they somehow realize this and play with all their unity. It will be great for their coming series.

    Congratz for Sri Lanka.....

  • dnmrao on March 2, 2012, 23:53 GMT

Time is running out for him........ waiting for the final.......

On your bike, India. Kept them waiting for 3 days for nothing and then send them packing. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of blokes. The fact of the matter is they weren't deserve to get into the finals. They are an overrated side and they've had a tour of Oz they'd rather forget. Saying they've been disgraceful is putting it mildly.

  • crickeyt on March 2, 2012, 23:04 GMT

I am sure even the Aussie fans wanted SL to qualify for the finals. They must be tired of watching the same Indian team get thrashed for over 2 months now, without any change in the team or tactics and with not even an inkling of a fight. Who wants to watch a visiting Indian team whose captain proudly announces that he will go shopping and not even care to watch whether his team qualifies for the finals? The SL team is fighting the Aussies tooth and nail and their fans bring joy, music and color to a stadium, as compared to the Indian fans whose boorish behavior mirrors the snarling players our Indian team has been reduced to.

  • trumpoz on March 2, 2012, 23:02 GMT

Bye Bye India enjoy the flight :-> . As an aussie fan this is win/win. If we won the game then great :-D If we lost the game then the Indian team was going home - just as great. Looking forward to a great finals series. One thing can be said - the Aussie top order is due in a big way. I'm going to predict a warner/wade bashathon in Adelaide in game 2.

  • rav63 on March 2, 2012, 23:02 GMT

Srikkanth must be thinking that Indian fans are taking his selection position lightly since they played one game really well against Sri lanka. Infact Indians do believe that! Trying to hide his selection inabilities by playing in a Flat Track against SL with short boundaries ! Accept India was outplayed in Australia by miles. If Srikkanth keeps on selecting Old people for the next series as well due to their personal needs India may well lead to some set backs

  • Precioustar84 on March 2, 2012, 22:55 GMT

Team India fan here but rightly and truly deserving team won today. CONGRATULATIONS SL!! Luckily pitches and conditions was exactly what SL needed and fortunately they won the toss too. Its still a wonder why SL couldn't beat India if they could easily beat Aus in each match. And well I know what the problems were for India to beat SL but not Aus, nonsense rotation policy. Most Indian fans wanted SL vs India in the Finals at the beginning of the CB series. Wanted India to play as if each match was do-or-die match earlier in the series but after yet another tough series even the last win wasn't expected. Team India can still leave on a high note but plenty to learn for next time as 1 good win does not erase the bad ones. Best of luck to SL and Aus in the finals. (My son's teacher is from SL and few friends from SL/Pak so we will be cheering together in the finals as usual). Hope SL come out winners!! :)

@CandidIndian on (March 02 2012, 13:06 PM GMT) Your post is like a shining beacon. To be fair the majority of Indian fans from what I have read on this thread have been quite complimentary to team SL. I don't know what has been going on with these threads in the build up to this series or before this match but there really is alot of trashy gloating comms from many SL fans - and there was I thinking that all the Asian countries support each other. If these comms are supportive I'd hate to see what they're like when they have a bee in their bonnet. We still get some posting trash on our threads but we do get satish619chandar - who knows his cricket - posting some decent stuff. I just wish there were more like you and him

  • on March 2, 2012, 22:10 GMT

I find SL fans are happy not because they won the game, just because India is out. I understand it . Because they were humiliated in the run chase. Obviously they will vent it in expressing their happiness by telling Indians Pack up. It is OK guys, you may win CB series, but Hamara bas (Maa hai) Sachin, Kholi, dhoni and all our players. Whether we lose or win, we are always proud of them. Any way SL deserve to win this CB series. I wish them all luck to win in 2 games.

Khurram Hameed, are you joking? Sri Lanka were lucky?!! It was a silly rule that allowed India a chance (Head to Head wins before NRR); whose luck was it that Malinga missed a simple run out of Dhoni in that tied match? Who beat the top team twice (now thrice)? I like India too but to say that SL were lucky is blatant bias

  • maddy20 on March 2, 2012, 21:50 GMT

A really well deserved win. Despite of the small target and losing two of its best bowlers in the match after 5 overs , SL have prevailed. Well done. Very Shrewd captaincy from Mahela.

  • deepak_123 on March 2, 2012, 21:31 GMT

Well done srilanka. You showed the way how to beat this over rated aussi team. Learn a lesson from this SL team who truly outclassed Indians in this tournament. At the end it is not your personal stats but the country's stat. A lot of talent already wasted on the bench(Rahane,Karthik,Tiwary,Pujara). When will that mad Srikkanth learn a lesson, Showed his charactor in front of everyone. Shame on these people who destroys INDIAN cricket. Any way Good Luck SL!!

In Last CB series, Indians won against aussies defending couple of times.. Its pity that they never got a chance to Bat first in any of the games for batsman to play without scoreboard pressure.. Its the only unlucky part.. But Srilankans chased 280 against aussie and India never came even close enough while chasing.. Its good that the test matchs 4-0 losses will not be forgotten after disastourous ODI and test tour.. following a white wash in England.. Still no change in players .. selectors are still priasing the members.. Cricket is team game and a team should be apretiated when team wins Not when century is scored by an Individual... World cup win and white washes .. It can happen only with india..

Congratulations to Sri Lanka on a wonderful victory & making it to the Final. Playing against odds with 2 bowlers injured, they still pulled off a victory. This is what is called fighting spirit & intensity, It was remarkable that SL get the job done first & then they talk about the handicaps they faced. It was so easy to fold up and give excuses, which were valid. Sanga & Chandimal batted so well that the Aussie bowling looked below average.Even the Aussie fielding was rattled by quick singles. As an Indian fan, I expected that India learnt from SL how to fight every inch of the way & win. I do wish SL best of luck in winning the CB series. Aussie batting without Clarke was in tatters. But for a great fighting innings from D. Hussey, the Australians were well set to get out for <200.Well done SL. You really fought like Lions!.

  • krkRavi on March 2, 2012, 21:18 GMT

congrats SL team, wish they win the finals. I along with more than a billion cricket fans will NO LONGER watch the rest of the series. Also, good luck to sponsors. Indian team sure could have done better. They wanted to return early to their home country, the win our SL proves that.

  • on March 2, 2012, 21:16 GMT

Srilanka deserve more than any other team to be in finals. Their TopOrder is very consistent. Sometimes after competing well through out the games some teams loose close games, But India lost convincingly their games and their wins were also close (lower order win against lankans.. Dhoni lucky fourish at the end vs aussie.. One Tie).. Only One convincing win in 8 games doesn't say much as a team.. As long as the selection doesn't change(Selectors afraid of players), you have to accept these losses as supporters.. as long as selectors are sentimental about dropping players, Indian fans should accept to watch such losses and their star players tumble.. Hats Off ..........

  • RohanMarkJay on March 2, 2012, 21:07 GMT

This has been a good one day tournament full of twists and turns. I feel sorry for the Indian cricket team there are a lot of very good cricketers there in their team, as Kohli proved the other night. They have had one of their worse runs since winning their world cup last year. Also I like Dhoni he seems to be a very decent bloke despite his losses. Despite India going out I did see them play some of their best cricket since the world cup in the CB series. However Australia and Sri Lanka has proved to be too good for them in this occasion.

  • fairness on March 2, 2012, 20:50 GMT

The game was tactically thrown by aussies! Two of the commentators were a big give away!!

  • slcrickcrazyfan on March 2, 2012, 20:36 GMT

I completely agree with Iam-Optimus-Prime's comment...Based on the fact that, poor Daniel will never get a hat-trick unless the umpire tucker hadn't raised his finger...!!!Yeah men... It was completely fluke...!!!

Well Played Sri Lanka. Extremely well played!

  • slcrickcrazyfan on March 2, 2012, 20:26 GMT

Thanks for all the Indian fans who have wished SL.. Thanks guys.

  • rayfanatics on March 2, 2012, 20:16 GMT

The deserving team progressed to the finals. However, you don't defeat Australia 3 times in their backyard and get away with it. Lanka will get slaughtered in the finals. Probably, that one Warner whirlwind is waiting for the Lions, just like Gilly in WC'07 and the second final will be in the Ozzy bag with Pup hitting the winning runs. No, this isn't a rant, but SL just don't have that extra to win major finals.

  • jango_moh on March 2, 2012, 20:02 GMT

great game.... SL deserve to be in the finals!!! may the best team win.... india will need to regroup and play good in the ASIA cup.... go india!!!

  • nilb on March 2, 2012, 20:02 GMT

So happy for the fact that SL knocked out India, flat pitch bullies are put in their deserving place. Amazing some guys are still talking about the 5 ball over and India being better than SL. for all of you who put mean comments to Mahela and Malinga.. you got your answer. Sri Lanka can beat India any day but we don't go around insulting people.

  • NairUSA on March 2, 2012, 19:55 GMT

Good to see SL playing as a unit. Hope to see Team India performing well soon.

  • SuperSharky on March 2, 2012, 19:53 GMT

This was a special game. Great cricket from both sides. Since the 1996 World Cup Final between Sri-Lanka and Australia, most of their limited games were special. In that final, Jayasuriya and Da Silva showed us that Waugh and Warne can be average. And now, if I'm not mistaken, it's the last 3 games vs Australia thats also wins for Sri Lanka. By no means will Australia be average in the final. And this game was no average performance, from both sides.

  • KukaSekhon on March 2, 2012, 19:51 GMT

It seems Sri Lanka is going to win this one. Good come back by Malinga. May be team BCCI er India should learn few things about fighting spirit from Sri Lankan Cricketers.

  • johnathonjosephs on March 2, 2012, 19:51 GMT

Sri Lanka was truly the best team in the tournament. The games they lost, they lost by a small margin and was very close. The only match they got smashed in was the one against India in a do or die situation. This match was the best game of the tournament (best competition between bat and ball) and Sri Lanka had to defend a LOW score with TWO OF THEIR MAIN BOWLERS INJURED HALFWAY THROUGH THE MATCH. Remarkable win and proper revenge against the 320 match. To me this was a better win that losing the world cup finals. As long as you make it to the finals, it doens't matter who wins. I don't care if Aus wins 2-0 now, because Sri Lanka has played par. Brilliant captaincy of Jayawardene. Best captain out there now. He doesn't have the luxury of Dhoni's batsmans, but he still pulls off amazing wins. Hats off to the Lankan team.

  • seantells on March 2, 2012, 19:51 GMT

there's nothing to mention about India here. SL fought too well Captaincy the best of all three and they wel deserve to be in finals.all the best SL keep moving!

  • NZLankan on March 2, 2012, 19:50 GMT

Brilliant win guys - so proud of you! @ all the Mahela bashers (SLankans INCLUDED): trust you are reconsidering your positions now. @ all those who think SL only win on the subcontinent - ditto. @ all the Indian fans who appreciated SL's efforts - thanks! @ all the SL fans having a go at their Indian counterparts: get a life - man for man India is probably a better team - which is what makes these efforts so much more special @ the Indian team - bad luck guys but we look forward to more battles with you soon. CB finals against Oz is second only to WC - go Lions - your chance to make history. We in NZ are right behind you.

  • on March 2, 2012, 19:49 GMT

To optimus Prime. Yes, beating aussies 3 times in a row must be a fluke, because it takes much more effort to lose to them 3 times as the Indian team showed it to us. Well, done, you are world champ losers....

  • mmond4 on March 2, 2012, 19:45 GMT

India's great performance in the last match notwithstanding, I think any rational Indian fan will agree that the best two teams here made it to the final. Am not counting the paranoid India fans here, who think Aus lost because they wanted to face the "weaker" team - umm, yeah, Aus is scared to face India after a 4-0 Test and 3-1 ODI drubbing this series. No doubt that SL will give Aus a better fight in the finals that India could have.

  • Kays789 on March 2, 2012, 19:42 GMT

SL really should not have too much trouble scoring off the aussie bowlers as their bowling line up is mediocre at best. not that the SL line up is a whole lot more threatening either although their death bowling has been significantly better than australia's this series. so the onus should be on the batsmen to score enough runs for the bowlers to breathe a little easier. as for the indians, they have rightly been shown the door. one anomalous innings doesnt change how abysmal this team is when they have to play outside of their comfort zone (i.e. flat/dead pitches).

  • er.Vaibhav on March 2, 2012, 19:41 GMT

despite being an inidian fan have to say that it is SL who deserve a spot in finals more than india and also they should win the finals...and all the best to india for asia cup and to the pakistanis jumping uselessly like kids asia cup is coming your foolish joy isn't gonna last long

  • da_man_ on March 2, 2012, 19:30 GMT

kumarcoolbuddy; there is a reason India have been unceremoniously dumped out of the tournament. They were simply not good enough over the course of the series. You think India would be better than Australia in the finals? The same India who got shredded to bits in every format in 2011? Give me a break. You guys should win the Asia cup though, as it'll be on docile lifeless pitches where Indian batsmen flourish more than any other team including SL and Pak.

  • on March 2, 2012, 19:27 GMT

australia r scared of india........haa biggest joke!!!!! bottomline is australia thrashed us 3 times 2 with bonus we were jst lucky in one bcoz of irfan's six while srilanka beat austalia 3 times....so srilanka and aus r the deserving team.......we need 2 accept this otherwise stay bitter losers

  • xylo on March 2, 2012, 19:21 GMT

It is only fitting that Australia and Sri Lanka are in the finals. Even if India had made it to the finals, with their dwindling bowling resources and their fielding 'seniors', it would have been a very sorry sight. At least with these two teams, you can be guaranteed of a bunch of fit people on the field. India wouldn't be totally unhappy either - leaving on a positive note, and getting time for some much-needed rest, and self-reflection.

  • on March 2, 2012, 19:09 GMT

  • on March 2, 2012, 19:07 GMT

Go Sri lanka you have beaten Australia in more times in this comm series. Australias no 1 spot is going down and you can get to the no 1 spot in one days. Note They already lost no 1 spot in tests and still couldn't come up. You can win the the finals 2- 0.

  • samee4uall on March 2, 2012, 19:02 GMT

SL deserve to be in finals, but guys don't forget the last league match won by SL againt Aus when Clarke and Brett Lee didn't play , so definitely AUS will be having an edge over SL in the finals when they both return... so be careful SL as the real test starts from here... expecting more exciting finals ... all the best both the teams

Will miss the so called action till the nxt CB Series....My wishes are with both the finalist. May the better team wins.... • ian_ghose on March 2, 2012, 18:53 GMT

@fguy - If your 'support' couldn't help India save a single Test match, and couldn't help them reach the final, what makes you think your 'lack of support' for Sri Lanka will make any difference to the match results? Stop talking like a 5-year old child.

  • yorkslanka on March 2, 2012, 18:51 GMT

well done to Sri Lanka for Winning the game, defending a low score and finally entering the finals..great performance (again) by chandimal and nice to see thirrimane perfomring too..concerned about the injuries to Mathews and Thisara and hope they will be back for at least the second of the three finals...Thanks to all the genuine Indian fans for their good wishes and we look forward to seeing you soon in the Asia cup..good luck sri lanka...even if we didnt get into the finals, i would have said the same in that it is really pleasing to see us continuing to head in the right direction with our cricket and for our youngsters to stake their claims for the future...

  • Chuck_Nunchuck on March 2, 2012, 18:49 GMT

Well as an Indian, Srilankan loss or win either would be good for us. Srilankan win would get our so called professional cricketers would get chance to reflect and the fans to udnerstand one solitary win cant consolidate for the three months of whopping that we recieved in the hands of Aussies. So atleast they would think ponder wonder what went wrong and why things are falling apart. There should be questions over everybodies commitments to the game/country. They cant falter so badly every time they leave India, their comfort zone subcontinent. I just hope some good comes out of it. and if it was Srilankan loss..we would have enjoyed and hoped to turnaround some bit of whopping by winning this CB again. Ahh well...though i didnt get to see alot of the game today but whatever i saw..Srilanka was always in their face and trying to pick wickets.!!! great game and good win lanka! Cheers now win the CB coz you deserve it for being the best in this series see you in Asia Cup for the revenge

  • Al_Bundy1 on March 2, 2012, 18:15 GMT

Sri Lanka deserved to be in the finals. They know how to beat Australia. We Indians are more interested in giving respect to their elders - 10dulkar, Dravid, Sehwag, etc. Guess what?? By respecting the wishes of older generation to play until the retirement age of 60, we are killing opportunities for the younger generation. No wonder younger generation is more interested in watching European football than cricket.

  • puneet_usa on March 2, 2012, 17:59 GMT

This series unanimously proves that Aussie dominance in their own backyard has come to an end as far as ODI's are concerned- Would have been fitting if India would have shown more fight against Australia. Then both the Asian cricket power house would have made it to the finals...but no regrets...SL played better cricket against Aus.- India played better cricket against SL- and Aus played better cricket against India- So a hell of a well contested tri-series-that how competitive cricket tournaments should be- hopefully finals will be well contested as well...!!!!

  • on March 2, 2012, 17:51 GMT

india got the best batting order of the series, but when it comes to winning one must preform all three department. SL are well head of IND & AUS on that in the series. Taking about Dhoni he the best captain India might ever seen one tour don't change that. good luck both teams on the finals,,,, -wattala/SL

  • colombo62 on March 2, 2012, 17:50 GMT

What a great game,I am so happy that we have a great captain and team work. Sri Lanka you deserved this, India you can say anything but our players are way better than Indian players. Iam-Optimus-Prime it's not a fluke. As I said fantastic game. We are one the great team in the world. Our young bowlers batsmans showed their colours. We lost 3 bowlers but still manage to do so. It shows team effort and united.

  • on March 2, 2012, 17:48 GMT

Except few Indian fans, other all complained about our great win, grow up guz, admire and acknowledge our win...These are two teams deserve to be in final..one battering performance against SL team should not take as a qualification to final. it is just a one match. the way SL team play throughout the series much better than India and even against Ausies....Wish all the best for Final.....our target already achieved in this series..Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!

@ optimus prime, your comment shows how little you know of the game, it was a spirited performance and genius of a captaincy by mahela...Defending 230 on a pitch which was a good batting wicket ain't an easy task. The bowling changes and fielding placements were work of a genius.

Amazed to see some of the comments that Australia wanted to play against Srilanka ... I am sure after beating india in tests and 3 out of 4 ODIs, Aussies would be fancying their chances to play against India instead of Srilanka who beat them 3 out of 4 times during this series.

  • on March 2, 2012, 17:22 GMT

I agree with Mohaseen Khan but not fully whatever it is if a team is to win the other team has to lose obviously but what matters the most is how you lose. Barring the final match which we won handsomely the rest 2 matches we somehow managed to win but think those 4 matches we lost by huge margins of 100-50 runs & that way before the allotted 50 overs giving them bonus points. Come on MSD & Co show some guts atleast in the forthcoming matches & tours.

I wish you take revenge on Australia which denied you world cup in 2007 by winning this CB series cup and don't give a chance to Aussie, becoz as cricket fan i love to see all teams competing and challenging one another, and sick of seeing a team being supreme for years. So take revenge on Aussies ..you have eliminated India , and that's a revenge upon India considering your 2011 WC final loss, now it Aussies you have to target , All the best Srilanka, from my heart - Indian.

GOOD Luck team India.

  • Behind_the_bowlers_arm on March 2, 2012, 17:07 GMT

Sri Lanka have been the most impressive team throughout this tournament and it shows the closeness of it that they were within 10 runs of going out. Its been great to have the 3 way tournament back rather than the boredom of the 7 match 2 team borefest of last summer. Australia seem to be struggling to get any sort of start in most matches and often seem to be 2 or 3 down very quickly. I'm not sure this default idea with opening with a keeper works trying to recreate Gilchrist. Warner (who needs to lift) & Watson (good to see him get on the board) should open and David Hussey used as a bit of floater to get him in and make use of his great form. Good to see Pattinson back and bowling. If i had to guess on the finals you'd expect the pace of Brisbane to suit Australia but the two finals at flat Adelaide to favour SL.

  • pra_76 on March 2, 2012, 17:07 GMT

India jus won one magnificent match and that's it. But the greatness can be seen by the consistency shown by the SL team. Great win Lions. No matter who may doubt you, all the sri lankan fans are behind you. The MCG was filled with SL fans. So whether you win the finals or not we are behind you all the way. Go Lanka Go.

  • on March 2, 2012, 17:02 GMT

Whooooooooa..........that was a great performance!!! congratzzz SL team.............!!! I see a great potential in angi to lead the team in future with his cool head. But no offense with all these injuries of him making me doubtful for leading the team consistently as u guys doing. He's doing a important role in the team & if he missed out that is a huge blow for us & if he's the captain it'll be shocking to miss him............As for time being while you groom him captain please concentrate on CHANDI or THIRIMANNE too. Of course they are too young & it'll take few year to them to reach this position. But let the learning process start by considering them as leaders. Since both of them are batters like mahela & sanga their won't be that extra pressure that is on ANGI as a all rounder. Anyway all the best for the finalzzzzzzzz

Indians, get ready for the ASIA CUP. Best wishes.

  • on March 2, 2012, 16:45 GMT

@Mohaseen Khan : So sad yaaar. India will win only inside there country Yaaar. England defeated India by 4 - 0 in test and 3 - 0 in ODI (Thanks to rain prevent series defeat of 5-0). In Down under Same 4 - 0 in test and now booking flight to Mumbai. Pray for India to be above Bangladesh in Asia Cup. Ask your seniors to retire from cricket and give chance to the juniors. Don't be jealous about Sri Lankan success. We beat Aussies in 5 matches out of 7 we played in Down under.

  • on March 2, 2012, 16:45 GMT

Hahahaha, poor India. All the drama, and all for nothing. Dhoni should now learn when to look out for qualifying requirements. If he doesn't know, he should ask the management instead of only assuming. The seniors now are more useless than helpful for the team. They should now play for IPL only, that's only what they are good for.

congratulations to all Sri Lankan...it has been great performance by SL so far ..they are truly deserving for the finals.......but whats heartening to see is the bashing of each other I have seen recently......come on friends bashing wont do any good......this is a game........enjoy the cricket and appreciate good cricket...........respect each other...thats it......and ALL THE BEST TO SRI LANKA for the finals.....from an Indian

When we were bashed by India Last game cz of gem of innings from Kholi I thought we were fallen again. But well done & lets stop bashing Indian fans. We are more humble & proud people, live in the Emerald isle. So bad luck India !!! Lets hope for the best !!!

Most Indian fans wanted SL vs India in the Finals at the beginning of the CB series but there's always next time for that. Wanted India to play as if each match was do-or-die match earlier in the series but after tough summer even this last win wasn't expected. Team India can still leave on a high note but a bit too late so plan and play better next time. Best of luck to SL and Aus in the finals. (My son's teacher is from SL and few friends from SL so we will be cheering together in the finals as usual). Hope SL come out winners!! :)

  • Brumby90 on March 2, 2012, 16:20 GMT

    NOTE TO AUSSIE SELECTORS:

STOP changing the batting order game after game !!. The batting displays have been disgraceful and players are clearly not sure where or when they are batting anymore. SL has a very ordinary bowling lineup yet the aussies are getting out to half trackers and wide stuff.

  • Siva-The-Human on March 2, 2012, 16:18 GMT

SL won the math. Hmm But it was completely fluke. There is nothing any spirit in this game. Just fluk.

  • kumarcoolbuddy on March 2, 2012, 16:15 GMT

Though SL struggled to win against India they played better than India and AUS over all. ANd after seeing AUS's performance I felt AUS is unfit for final too. India is far better opponent to SL.

  • kumarcoolbuddy on March 2, 2012, 16:11 GMT

I saw fielding of AUS for first 25 overs and it was pathetic. I knew AUS lost their talent but not this pathetic. They didn't show any spirit.

  • on March 2, 2012, 16:05 GMT

Yes Team India, (and Indian Fans) we know you are the World Cup Champions and that you are the Best Team In The World, that you 'thrashed' us by getting 328 runs in 36 overs and that you beat us several times and you will very likely beat us again in the future. But the bottom line is that Sri Lanka is in the finals against Australia. Win or lose we made it there. You didn't. i mean no insult, you are a very very good team. But in this case, fluke or no, we were better. So go home, regroup and come back strong. For better or worse the Lankan Lions will be waiting :)

  • udith1986 on March 2, 2012, 16:03 GMT

Indian FLAT PITCH BULLIES couldn't qualify for the finals. Indian players didn't play well in the CB series because the conditions were not suited for them. I think they need players like Dravid who can play good cricket on green tops in their side if they want to win games in Australia. In Horbat they played well because it was a completely flat pitch

  • Kino1978 on March 2, 2012, 16:02 GMT

Good that India lost. It was horrible to watch such a poor play of sport. India should learn from Sri Lanka.

As an asian I will root for Srilanka to win .... go Srilanka go!.... all the chandimal.... hoping to c u hit centuries in the final....all the best.

India's next overseas tour is 2 years hence. In the interim, hope to see India sending 'A' teams consisting exclusively of players below 29 years, to play in England, Australia, South Africa & New Zealand. There are easily 30 odd youngsters waiting for their chances. In addition to the ones who are already in the selectors' radar, this year's domestic games had thrown up new names, to watch out for and to be encouraged. If BCCI spend part of their massive wealth (mostly and indirectly coming from we all fans watching the matches on TV, game after game, despite all the disappointments), India definitely will have a strong team to field overseas, in two years. If we continue to pander to the whims and fancies and power-plays of the 30-plus brigade, the downward spiral will not be arrested. If we succumb to pressures from the broadcasters, it will be a very short sighted policy. It is an open secret that Nimbus does not want BOTH Sehwag AND Tendulakr NOT being in the team, on same tour!

  • supadupamonk on March 2, 2012, 15:48 GMT

Congrats SL this is a great win....u have played terrific cricket against Australia and three consecutive win against Aussies in Australia is not a joke...u deserve to be in final. As an Indian my mind wanted India to be in final but my deep down i wanted SL to reach the final so that they can be very competetive, with our current Indian team form we will deffenitely would have lost the CB series if we reach the final. But having said that i still find the arrongance in some SL fans comments here which is very sad....remember SL have beaten Aus comfortably but found it very difficult to beat the Indian team but Australia have beaten India comfortable so no team is consistent here but all the three teams played well......I support SL to win the CB series as an Asian...good luck SL...Peace

It brings much pleasure to me seeing Sri Lankan team getting through to the final with anorher comprehensive victory. The pleasure turns double when I see some of the mourning Indian fans keep posting comments, underestimating what Sri Lanka achieved...great captancy Mahela n hoping that the team would pull out at least one of the three injured players.

  • Amsyrocker on March 2, 2012, 15:32 GMT

SL fans should stop bashing Ind, fact is Ind played some bad cricket.. but still, the beating they gave Malinga & Co in the last game will haunt them for long..Ind won the CB series in 2008 destroying Aus and SL, it's just a sport... this time we were outplayed by Aus thanks to captian cool who only believes in improving personal records along with favorite players and bothers less for the country.... SL fans take all your rage out on Ind, but the fact is one to one you're a chicken..who knows if the one ball more would have been bowled, tournament results would have been different (Ind 3, SL1).

  • MaruthuDelft on March 2, 2012, 15:32 GMT

Dhonis SA, Aus, Eng results after being ranked the top side in tests n ODIs; 11 tests 9 losses. 18 ODIs 11 losses. Surely he has failed so must be removed from the captaincy.

  • Leggie on March 2, 2012, 15:29 GMT

I think the Indian chairman of selectors saw this coming ie SL qualifying ahead of India. There is no other logic for including Sachin in the team for the Asia Cup - informing him well in advance that this would be his final chance in the ODI scheme of things. Anyways, well played SL. If SL wins the tri-series, Indians can proudly say that they lost only one out of the 4 matches with the tri-series champions! Another horror tour ends for India - albeit on a high after than fabulous run chase.

Malinga is in a bad patch. He rarely bowls a good yorker these days (the Watson's wicket), most of them are off target even though he is amongst the top wicket takers. He could be easily dispatched if he misses his yorker length (like Kholi did) or stray on his line. Hope he finds his rythem in the remaining matches because we need him badly now that Mathews, Perera and Maharoof participation is uncertain.

  • on March 2, 2012, 15:23 GMT

@ dx combine-the 3 best teams? Ur statement is laughable. South africa is currantly better. India has been nothing short of woeful this tour-only when presented with a flat-wicket could they perform haha. Sa's batting line-up consists os the 2 best odi batsman in the world in ab de villiers and amla not to mention adding kallis and duminy. Also our bowling is probaly the best with steyn, morkel and tsostsobe. Well played sri-lanka-especially the emerging talented player cha ndimal! He's really good.

  • on March 2, 2012, 15:23 GMT

SriLanka had been the best of the three teams in this series. They deserve to win the cup. If we look at our Indian team's performance (objectively, without any bias), I feel Srilanka and Pakistan will be the finalists in the Asia cup too.

well i am die hard Indian fan, wanted Australia to win today to get us into final ,but i will be the first one to admit that India dint deserve to be in final and Sri Lanka did but we beat sri Lanka 2 times and they only once on Australian pitches that shows we are better team ,we even won at waca against them and when sri Lanka beat us we were missing MSD . i think now everybody should understand in that tie at Adelaide how crucial was that one missing bowl was and even i think we were unlucky losing 6 tosses and bowling every time first and batting under lights ,which expect on flat tracks Hobart is very difficult to do . i am sure we will do well in Asia cup where i am sure if we win SL fans wont bash us because of the reason i stated above and to all aus fans we will see when you come to India and we will come back stronger in 2015 for bilateral series, tri series and the world cup.i think in a way its good that India dint reach final as the previous drubbing is not forgotten

  • Al_Bundy1 on March 2, 2012, 15:19 GMT

It's amazing that small countries (in terms of population) like Sri Lanka and Australia can do so well in Cricket. While in India, our cricket board has a billion dollar and a billion people available to them, but they still can't win much. Sure, World Cup 2011 was a great win, but with this much resources available to us, we should be the dominant country in cricket, especially considering that only 10 countries play cricket. The problem with India, as Ian Chappell pointed out, is our star culture. We like to worship our heroes and our heroes want to stay until they have milked every single dollar. Look at Australia - they didn't care if Ponting was their most successful captain ever. He failed to perform in a couple of matches - they dropped him. Perform or Perish - survival of the fittest.

  • puneet_usa on March 2, 2012, 15:19 GMT

Clearly proves that Aussie dominance in their own backyard has come to an end- Would have been fitting if India would have shown more fight against Australia.

As a Sri Lankan I am glad that we are through. But we should be humble about our win. Over some time there has been a word war going on between SL and IND fans. Truly both are wonderful countries with unique cricketing styles. I mean look at the IND hobart chase. Kohli was absolutely stunning. You may be from IND or SL or anywhere. If you perform well, due credit should be given. I think all three countries played well and the fight from the Asian teams were super. Good luck team IND for you have a bright future with some talented youngsters. Well done SL whatever happens in the finals (I'm banking heavily for a win). Both SL and IND have been wonderful cricket teams to watch and so be it....

If SL can beat Australia with two of their bowlers injured, then there is only one way these finals will go. It's a psychological blow that Australia will suffer, knowing fully well, that SL have beaten them in their last three matches. But we all know Australia are fighters, and will have had their pride hurt, and I am sure they will fight tooth and nail in these coming matches. Here's looking forward to an interesting final, and may the better team win.

Thank god India didn't make it. Anymore humiliation at the hands of Aussies would have led to another Ashes tournament between India and Australia which implies even more cricket. Now the Indians can finally come home after a horrible tour and start afresh - first by winning the Asia Cup, giving youngsters more chance (a.k.a rebuilding the team) and then finally leave the sub-continent and play good cricket everywhere. Hopefully, the scars of this defeat would remain fresh every time India faces Australia or England in the future.

  • drrao.nit on March 2, 2012, 15:01 GMT

I think australians are not ready to face India in finas, otherwise why the australian captain has given the bowling to a part timer after first ten overs. At that time they have to keep pressure on srilanka to maintain the rythm. at that time srilanka has lost two wickets. then australian captain has given bowling to david hussey. This is really redicculous. They dont have the guts to face India in final.

Now I wish the lnkans to win the series. Goodluck srilanka.

  • krv954 on March 2, 2012, 15:01 GMT

I think it is fair to say that the 2 best teams in the tournament are playing in the finals. Too bad one of them isn't India. But India only have themselves to blame. India not making it to the finals is not necessarily a bad thing for Indian cricket. but the fact that the Indian selectors are in denial. And that is bad for Indian cricket. Sooner the Indian selectors realize that this team needs to some fixing, we are going to be better off.

  • nideesh on March 2, 2012, 15:00 GMT

I dont know why people are happy on india bieng not qualified to the final. India got the world cup. India is in bad patch now. In last match, india showed what they are really capable of. Our youngsters are pretty new to the seaming wicket. India started winning in away matches when all its batsman were established and played 200 matches each. sachin, dravind, ganguly, laxman, sehwag, yuvraj. How much probability is there if peter forrest, mathew wade and warner come to india and score decently. Or dan christian, pattinson, get decent wickets. Not to forget the fact that back of length are easily pulled away in india.

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:59 GMT

  • chickentikka on March 2, 2012, 14:58 GMT

India doesn't deserve to be in finals. However one last chance with two more matches would have given an oppurtunity for Sachin sir to shut their critics with back to back centuries. He can do it given a chance. Just because of one series failure, people are commenting Sachin sir and Sehwag, forgetting what they have achieved so far in their career and how well they entertained the world cricket. I pity.

If any one was listening to the commentary Sri Lankan earned lot of respect from them. So while enjoying the game, respect your opponents.. be humble !!!

Well Done Mahela ! What a Great Captaincy,,Really Tremendous And Great ! If He keeps Motivating Lankan Lions like this then no doubt they can be Asian Champions ! ! !

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:33 GMT

Is India deserve to be in finals? India conceded 3 bonus points and sri lanka won 3 out of 3 last matches against Australia. By winning previous match against SL Indians thought they could be in finals. But our Lions did it. SOOOO PROUD TO BE A SRI LANKAN. Beware, Lions are roaring.

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:32 GMT

ohhhh yeahhhh we win rem mai frnds we win coz we dsv that not AUS give away clearly see that all IND supports AUS to went final....but all ends.... now dnt say abt 5 over match, 320 chase .....all past...just watch SL fight in final ( in 2 finals )........3 matches win over AUS....very much happy...Go lanka Go mahela......

Awesome game but think the revenue for CB Series have just plummeted (Money goes where Indian team goes). Now hoping for a good finals.

  • MaruthuDelft on March 2, 2012, 14:31 GMT

@fguy. On a low? No man. Haddin is right. Indea Break. India hardly fight. Look at Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka too has always been weak in bowling. But they fight making it difficult to the opposition. In batting Chandimal has prooved much better than even Kohli. Kohli failed against Aus in ODIs. Thirimane does better than Raina. Sri Lanka first 6 is so solid and 10 times better than Indian batting ever was. Anyone Sri Lanka calls up fight better. Indians don't fight. Shame. You may recall exploits of India down under in tests in 2003 and 2007 but Australia didn't play those series with full intensity. This time after India boasted about being number one England and Australia took it hard and you know the result.

To fellow Sri Lankans , Lets be humble with this win . yes we have to appreciate our guys who worked hard crafting this win . full credit to them . So we are derservingly in final . But lets stop all unnecessory indian bashing .coz this is getting really unplesent from both parties . Too bad for two neighbouring countries. (I am sharing my office cabin with an indian and we congratulate each other after every SL-IND match and give credit where it due ). Lets enjoy the game while supporting our team accepting any result coming our way . Lets make friends from sport not haters . Cheers !

As if their team won it !Their team is not even playing here they r busy getting thrased by England in odi,t20 etc. So it's like begani shaadime abdula deewana :) Will see ya soon in Asia cup.

  • WishIndiaImprove on March 2, 2012, 14:26 GMT

As a Indian I want India to goto final and win the cup. But beggers are not choosers.. We need performers not big stars. India has 11 expert but bad team. SL does not have stars or heros but they are best team. Indian team is not deserved for any cup with their current form. Royal Salute to Kohli, who always has a mind set to win the game. I think for the CB Series SL is deserved to win. They played all their match very well except one with India. Best of luck SL.

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:26 GMT

SRILANKA DESERVE TO BE IN THE FINAL,FOR AUSTRALIA TS AREALITY CHECK THEY ARE NOT THAT GOOD SIDE WHICH INDIA MADE THEM LOOK A LIKE THROUGHOUT THE AUSTRALIAN SUMMER.FOR INDIA THE DISASTOUROUS ENGLAND AND AUSTRALIAN TOUR BROUGHT BACK TO THE EARTH AFTER WORLD CUP HOPE THE BITTER PRESENT SET THE TONE FOR BETTER FUTURE .BUT IT HAS BEEN A FANTASTIC TRI SERIES SO MUCH EXICTEMENT IN EVERY GAME APART FROM 3 AUS-IND MATCHES WERE AUS WIN BY HUGE MARGIN EVERY GAME HAS BEEN CLASSIC

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:25 GMT

Honestly I do not understand what is cricket. We can not defend 320 in 40 overs against India while preventing Australians are not allowed to chase 238. Is that the difference in the pitch or the commitment or something else?

  • LeoE on March 2, 2012, 14:24 GMT

Sl won today as their lower middle order batting is a fraction better than the Aussies. Inspite of a bogus hatrick that almost destroyed the Lankan tail, Rangana Herath put on 30 odd runs for the ninth wicket with Thirimanne. All SL top order batsmen are world class, but none of them can accelerate when the situation demands. Sanga, Chandimal, Thirimanne, Mathews are all extremely circumspect and are only good enough to keep the board moving at five runs an over. That is why we end up with 230, 240 and 250 on very good batting tracts. Then the bowlers have to bowl like demons and fielders are expected to stop twenty runs in order to win the match. The solution is to promote Thisara Perera, Kulatunge, Herath, up the order as they all can strike at eight an over. If they can have three or four overs before the batting power play, SL can be assured of 50 runs in the Power play. Therefore the pinch hitters must come in if a wicket falls around the 31st over. A near 300 total is a must.

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:24 GMT

Hi,it is bad luck for India but last match india proved that how the team work is. but am thinking that ausies feared about india after big chase against srilanka.so they just give it away to lanka.coz if india comes final definetly india going to win the series. now ausie going to win series against lanka 3:0

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:22 GMT

Best team of the tournament enters the final by defending a below par score minus two bowlers who got injured. what more to say. Sri Lankan Lions are back. for Indian fans i want to say although you wanted SL to lose today, i'm sure you'll support SL in the finals. like we used to do when India played other nations. Great performance by SL and Mahela is tactically the best captain in the world

  • SL1687 on March 2, 2012, 14:21 GMT

I would like to remind all INDIANS who commented on the last match played INDIA v SRI LANKA commented vary proudly. But I would like to request them to watch the highlights again n lean how to restrict a total of 239 without 2 allrounders on the field during Australia's batting time. Ha ha..Well done SRI LANKA. Mahela proved that he is one of the best three captain's we ever had from allround the world teaching a lesson to the world. Wish u all mates GOD BLESS & Triple tem bless to win the serious for the first time against Australia in Australia.

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:17 GMT

Horrah! Thank you, Australia for showing us Indians the road back to India! I am sure whoever thought that they were about the game and play the dirty politics - whether Dhoni or Sehwag or anybody else - have the last laugh! Truly, disappointing from a side who recently boosted to be on top of the world in all formats for the game! Congratulations, Sri Lanka and all the best!

  • vertical on March 2, 2012, 14:16 GMT

8-0....I hope some heads are chopped in the Test team especially the captain and older players.

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:16 GMT

Sri Lanka had quite a few close tough losses. It would have been areal shame if they got knocked out as they have played the most consistent cricket. The two teams that got in were the deserving two. India has their ups and downs. They need a break from cricket and they will be back.

  • howzzattt on March 2, 2012, 14:15 GMT

Bad luck India! Its sport and such things happen. After the fantastic win in Hobart against the Lankans one would have imagined to watch a Virat Kohli bat agianst the Aussies in the first final at the Gabba in Brisbane but that will not happen now. Virat and the rest of the Indian team catches a flight back home. They will get adequate rest to rejuvenate themselves and prepare well for the Asia Cup. Going by the current form the Lankans look the best side to win the Asia Cup but a motivated Indian team could prove to be the one to lift the Asia Cup once again. Hopefully, India will win at least the Asia Cup and we might have the honour of watching the master blaster blast a hundred once again. Kudos!

  • Xtra-Cover on March 2, 2012, 14:13 GMT

Thank you guys for great cricket....Australia, India and Sri Lanka.....this is one of the best ODI tournament I have seen. I recon you guys are the best 3 ODI teams in world cricket. There were lots of entertainment throughout the league stage, keeping the spectators alive on toes and nail-biting until the final over. Bad luck for India despite their great win against Sri Lanka by chasing 321 runs in 40 overs. Well done Sri Lanka! finally you are top in the table and, we hope you do well in the finals and take the CUP...Congratulations to SL team!

  • Pakistanvictorious on March 2, 2012, 14:12 GMT

I personaly feel Indians would have preferred to go home after chasing 320 in 36 overs than being bowled out below 200 twice win finals and now they will be quite satisfied going home early. Sachin Tendulkar would also be happy to go home without facing the failure in Finals, he can score his much hyped century against Bangladesh in more familiar conditions.Ironically, Indian batsmen will also enjoy good batting in Asia cup and fans who are much hurt would again be comparing them with Brad and Lara.

  • area1985 on March 2, 2012, 14:11 GMT

@fguy check who won the first try series in england 1998 which also involve SA& who white wash them 5-0 & beat aussies in full odi series have india ever achieve that??????Srilanka also beat sa & went to beat aus in final in 2006 so get some knowledge before ur comment

  • rkannancrown on March 2, 2012, 14:09 GMT

It was a well deserved win by SL. They deserved to be in the finals. India has not played well enough. India also got some bad decisions - particularly the David Hussey & Sachin Tendulkar decisions in the same game were pathetic - but they did not deserve to be in the finals. I will be rooting for SL in the finals. By the way, a lot of comments are about IPL but this is just nonsense. IPL has not contributed to Indian woes - poor batting, half hearted selection efforts and below par fielding are the problems. india also are suffering from an inability to try anything new. The batting order remains constant, the field placements are constant etc. A new thinking about these issues is needed.

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:09 GMT

Moral of this game - "Sri Lankans never never ever give up" When we won the 1996 World cup we massacred, slaughtered and made mince meat out of our opponents for the next few years !! Did we miss out in a final ??Errrr........ Don`t remember ....!!

  • Benbevanmeenu on March 2, 2012, 14:08 GMT

  • astro_boy on March 2, 2012, 14:06 GMT

I guess only the two best teams in a competition play in the finals. Doesn't matter if you play well in one match (flat pitch or not). Sri Lanka are on top on the points table so I guess that makes them the best team so for, Australia second (lets wait for finals) and lets not mention the last team.

@Bharath Kumar: Your big indian team give away 3 bonus points to australian in all 3 matches you lose again them. and do you just want to see them in final to see you won't lose to Australia without given a bonus point coz in final there is no bonus points doesn't matter how badly you got beaten?? sorry mate you are out now. Sri Lankan plays better cricket and accept facts like a gentleman

  • on March 2, 2012, 14:03 GMT

We Sri Lankans, majority feel the pain when we lose. But we ordinary ppl never take it too much to our heart. We move on with our life. After a day and after a cup of tea or beer. we are always with our team. . Cricket is not or life. Its just a game. You can see that in our grounds - even though we are sure that we are loosing the game..we keep on dancing. We keep on singing and drumming." Its gone - lets have our fun , lets see next time attitude".You Indians different. You take it in to ur heart and be pathetic when criticizing your own players. You ask sachin to go home. But we still llove Malinga. That never change. Think about amazing wins Dhoni brought to you in last few years. But he is criticized so badly. You know we respect you all we rem wt grt players( Sachin and Azar)did in 1996 touring for a friendly match, never forgotten. When you compete, give your 200%. Accept the result. Move on with your life. Lve your players. Be humble. Have a fun.B like Sri Lankan. no figting.

To all my indian brothers... thanks for participating and making up the numbers in the CB series. We shall meet again in the Asia cup where I am sure India perform much better and get back to what they do best ....flat track bullying. Just to back up what I said right after Tuesday's game in Horbat, SL has a very good record against the Aussie in this series and we should beat them and finish on top of the table which we have just DONE! Have a safe flight home India!

  • gularan on March 2, 2012, 14:01 GMT

  • ProdigyA on March 2, 2012, 13:57 GMT

Mahela should thank the Ausies for the "favour" given to them, defintely they rather play SL than the world champs India in the finals.

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:55 GMT

It turns out those are pretty safe hands. Not even a hat-trick from Daniel Christian, a four-wicket comeback from James Pattinson, a captain's half-century from Shane Watson or a remarkable, late, fighting fifty from David Hussey could prevent Sri Lanka from winning the last qualifying match at the MCG

not the only odds against us.. loosing mathews and perera meant the bowling and fielding options were pretty drastically cut as well. Add to that the hopes of millions of indians and i'd say this was even more a miracle than chasing 320 within 40 overs!

  • OhPakistan on March 2, 2012, 13:51 GMT

Lanka deserve all the praise, this unit is "tough nut to crack/ made of granite". Indians proved again that they are mere "Paper Tigers" only - decorated with past stats ( just one moment of brilliance at Hobart - rest of tour were spineless/lacked captaincy /rudderless ship) and all the Tendulkars, Sehwags, Dhonis & Ghambirs proving a LIABILITY and bowling lacked bite/toothless !

*** In Finals, Oz have a fight at their hands - Oz may do well on "BOUNCY GABBA" against 'depleted Tigers' but TIGERS WILL THEM FOR BREAKFAST AT ADELAIDE !

    Jawed/Karachi

  • gularan on March 2, 2012, 13:49 GMT

Jeya ho ! mighty SRI LANKA. Today you showed the cricketing world that it takes more than a freak loss to TEAM INDIA to get you down. More power to you and may you always play the brand of cricket that has won you millions of fans all over the world. One positive came out of all this, viz: it will now give TEAM INDIA all the time it needs to go SHOPPING !!! Tee! Hee! Hee! Methinks INDIA"S cricketing woes are due to IPL which makes the team give second preference to it's international fixtures. SHRI Dhony can now go back to INDIA and concentrate on his beloved IPL and not worry about the ASIA cup etc. and talking of ASIA cup what an oxy-moron that SRICANT looked at his press interview. CRICINFO please publish this if you are an impartial entity that you say you are.

  • Salil on March 2, 2012, 13:49 GMT

Congrats Sri Lanka. Dhoni and company come home. Make some money with shooting commercials and interviews before Asia Cup and IPL. Sehwag would be fit for IPL & show his dominance on flat tracks. Do you guys know that Ravindar Jadeja makes more money in an year than the entire Indian Hockey 11. Indians wake up and support your Hockey and other sports. Once we ignore cricket you would see sponsorship ending for these loosers & they would eventually perform in the ground than in ads & interviews. Start from boycotting IPL. British and BCCI are same, they divide rule. You have Mumbaikars, Delhites, Hyderababdis playing in IPL but not Indians Wake up and start boycotting IPL by following other sports

Its true that Indian team are out of the equation and being an Indian fan, it hurts me the most.............but still, i am happy that it happened because it is no use playing with any team that lack game spirit.........still, sri lankan fans must not get their hopes up because as per mr. mahila, the victory is not because sri lanka played well.............its because australia have played poorly in their match......LOLz...........sri lankan team is still unaware of what they have gotten themselves into.........and, like their previous match with India, they will never knew what hit them in comming 2 matches.....til the time they will realize, a team poor in game spirit would have taken away every thing from them.............:D

Hats off to all Indian and Pakistan friends.

SL - ????. that should quiten them up.

  • Sidath346 on March 2, 2012, 13:42 GMT

As a SL fan, I'm extremely delighted not only with the win but with the fighting spirit we played with. However, come on SL and Indian bros, lets not bash each other up. All 3 teams fought and fought hard and in the end you have to say that the two better teams are through although I feel SL was the best side. However, congrats to all 3 teams. The Indian team was probably a little too late to show their class and that match in Hobart showed us that they are still an excellent top side. The Asia cup is gonna be super interesting and hope SL will win it.

  • fguy on March 2, 2012, 13:42 GMT

ha i love how SL fans are talking abt india being flat track bullies like SL is a nation of greentops and seaming wickets. dead wickets and constant rain interruptions make SL matches some of the most sleep inducing ones.

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:42 GMT

Our team does not deserve place in the finals. Deserving teams only entered the final stage of the tournament. No regrets.

  • fguy on March 2, 2012, 13:42 GMT

<<CONTD>> all that is forgotten and now india is on a low (it happens to all teams) SL fans are saying things like 'flat track bullies' (hello, where was the 952 run snoozefest played??!) like their pitches are perth-like! and also denigrating IPL (not my favorite tournament but different strokes...) which pays many a SL cricketer, something which ther own board hasnt for months. remember, if it wasnt for IPL the SL cricketers would prob'ly be forced to beg in order to support their families. so keep that in mind..

  • Yolk_Eater on March 2, 2012, 13:41 GMT

i am so glad SL won, India did not deserve to go into the finals. And i am an indian. Just the right result.

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:41 GMT

India is more worried about Australian teenagers than cricketers, who can hit Indians every where if India beat Australia very cheaply. For the sake of Game we dont want to disturb business relations. We can beat Srilaka left and right. But when it comes to Australia some other unknown fears come to Indians. Hope India play without any unknow fear next time when they play here.

  • fguy on March 2, 2012, 13:41 GMT

normally i would've supported SL in the finals now that Ind are out (which they absolutely deserve seeing the way they played) but looking at some of the statments here by SL fans all i have to say is wow! they're arrogant like they're No. 1 for last 10 years in every format of the game. and are putting down India, a nation that supported them (morally and financially) during their infancy and growth. dont forget that earlier other nations questioned SL's int'l status like they do with b'desh and zim now. but Ind helped them grow by sending teams regularly (to the extent that i'm thoroughly bored watching ind-sl encounters). CONTD>>

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:40 GMT

Considering Sri Lanka had tow front line bowlers injured, namely Periera and Matthews, and only a mediocre target of 239 to chase, this was a very weak, even perhaps, bordering on being an insipid run chase by Australia. Sri Lanka now take a huge psychological advantage into the finals. That said, while disappointed with Australia's weak weak weak run chase, I am glad Sri Lanka are in the finals instead of India. They deserve it more than an Indian side which on this tour has had their numerous dismal failures far outweigh their odd spectacular successes.

We send our all cricketers to IPL & ICL. Then All Indians players bowled & batted against them after they beat Sri Lanka in International Cricket ground. But you never think other countries such as Australia. South Africa or England they gifted their all players to your money as well as Sri Lanka. Therefore you need to plan buy all players in Cricket world from your money. Good Luck India. I still remember World cup final match & last match. There was get performance in your team. I wish Sachin 10dulkar to get next 10x10 against Bangladesh. But it will be very tough. Bcoz still 10dulkar think his 10x10. Please play as Murali. He announced his departure with short of 8 wickets to 800 in one Test match against all of you.

Can't wait for the IPL to happen.. where proud lion players line up, hope and pray to be brought by teams so they can earn big money... pocket the money and then talk bad about the IPL.. Proud people should keep playing for their nation and not participate in another countries premier league and eye their money...

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:25 GMT

I'm an Indian fan but congrats to Sri Lanka...they deserved it after beating the Aussies 3 times in this series. If India fluked it through it only would have allowed Team India...sorry I mean't Team Chennai to paper over the reeling cracks of the Indian team. This is just another good reason why the Indian team needs new and young players and more balls to drop out of form players. The CB series has been good to watch though...decent pitches for bat and ball bring out so many interesting games. BCCI time to send Team India to boot camp not the IPL!

  • SPN777 on March 2, 2012, 13:23 GMT

OMG what a win! I hopped and went through the comments after SL hoisted 238 what was said to the below far score at MCG. And I was able to see the joyfulness of all the hardcore Indians fans through their comments and not to mention I was shattered as a SL fan but nevertheless it's worth mentioning I didn't give up nor I expected SL cricketers to give up as they are renowned for their fighting spirit to come up as underdogs and do unimaginable like the way they have just done. Why I decided to have a stab though I have never ever gave an attempt to comment on any article on Cricinfo because hardcore Indian fans made me to do so. I'm not angry with Indians fans nor I feel happy that the Indians has to go home but it's their support for the team made it interested otherwise it's dull and boredom life. There's no other pain than to see your team is going home after all the effort which were put in to make it to the finals but the difference is they had to depend on Australia. Pls post ths

  • bhrangi on March 2, 2012, 13:22 GMT

Congrats Sl for ur win.,, come on guys our players already packed their stuff and ready to return even before playing match against SL., I thought BCCI did something for that win and controlled SL board, But now there is nothing like that. IND completely annihilated SL in 320 chase., Thank god even though we are 2-1 against SL, u guys are crowing here like anything. 1 thing for sure where ever and whenever and in what ever form , IND will defeat Sri Lanka .,., HAhahahahaha

From an Indian Sri Lankans, well done.I was really happy when Dilly took the final catch. If India had qualified, it would have been a fluke and it would mask some of the major issues that Indian Cricket is facing at the moment. Sri Lanka please trash the Aussies in the finals. You are my 2nd favourite team of course the first being India. Not all Indians are arrogant as some people may think. In the news channels today, Arun Lal, Gavaskar, Atul Wasan stated that it would have been a travesty of Justice if India had made the final. Ditto Sanjay Manjrekar on Star Cricket. On another note, I think BCCI gave an ultimatum to SLC to lose in Hobart to ensure that Virat,Raina, etc have their IPL value intact. Maybe Malinga wanted to give a farewell gift to his MI skipper on his last match in Australia lol. On another note, Mr Kepler Wessels, hope you eat your words. This SLC team is playing very well in bouncy conditions. They play with passion even though they don't receive salary

The way I see it is even if Sri Lanka wins the final, their loss to India (in the last match) will always come first. Good Luck Sri Lanka - you will need it badly in finals.

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:17 GMT

Indians always depend on others to perform and win matches.. Not This Time haha.. Well Played Sri Lanka. The Most consistent team in the tournament is in the finals. Justice Done. Nuff Said !!

  • rohittttt on March 2, 2012, 13:17 GMT

Good show by Lankans and they proved that they have much better attack and young fighting players, against lankans dhoni's slow run strategy did them out from the tournament when the match was tie.....

  • stormy16 on March 2, 2012, 13:16 GMT

What a show by SL and stood up when it counted and what's more, two vital knocks by a couple of youngsters held the innings togeather. Its easy to to pay tribute to a winning captain but Mahela won the game today with his captaincy. Attacking fields was the obvious with a smallish target to defend but he used the bowlers wondefully well. Malinga reminded all and sundry what he is about starting with Warner and then Watson just when it was needed. He also got a vital wicket at the end. You couldnt ask for a worse case scenerio than a small target and losing two bowlers but Mahela was awesome. As was Chandimal - what a star this bloke is and he is only getting started. His handling of the pace and bounce has been most impressive both in Oz and SA before. Lahiru has been a surprise for me. Didn't look comfortable in the test match in SA but has fitted in well in the middle order. SL's major concern now are injuries to all three alrounders. I suggest rest them all for Adelaide.

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:16 GMT

See you in the Asia cup in final. Air India is ready board now

  • Texmex on March 2, 2012, 13:16 GMT

I am an Indian fan. But feel SL deserved to go to final. Cheers. Look at the way SL batted against the Aussie bowlers and the way India batted against them. I think the Indians are mentally affected by the likes of Hilfenhaus etc. For some reason they are not affected as much by the likes of Malinga who is a better bowler. Go figure.....

  • RATKILLER on March 2, 2012, 13:15 GMT

@ neetish1 India in the finals! Wasn't they? ha ha ha stop day dreaming and praying. you just want to play good cricket that's all.India deserved this fate. CU in the Asia Cup. bye!

  • ultrasnow on March 2, 2012, 13:14 GMT

Good luck SL from an Indian cricket fan. The two deserving teams have made the finals. SL need to keep in mind that the Aussies are gonna come at them hard, all guns blazing in the finals. So be ready for the backlash. You need to be proactive and innovative to weather the storm. Mahela is the right man for the job. Hope Sri Lanka win now that India are out.

  • cricmatters on March 2, 2012, 13:14 GMT

This is a really odd triangular series. India beats Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka beats Australia and Australia beats India. Based on current form, Sri Lanka should easily beat Australia in the finals however they would still struggle against India.

  • ballistic.dude on March 2, 2012, 13:13 GMT

Indian Team, time to go home and get more richer by playing in the IPL. We play IPL cos we got the money and we can afford it.. we can boast of having the richest sporting body in the world... so anyone who got a problem with Indian cricket and IPL should not allow their players to play in our league...

  • joelaugustine on March 2, 2012, 13:13 GMT

Previous match between india and srilanka is enough to judge who's best.World never ends here mates. You will have to face indians sometime in the future.

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:12 GMT

I thought we did a mistake in batting first after seeing what India did to us the other night and to make things worst, dili ran mahela out, sanga was too slow, mathews couldn't find the timing. But chandi was very good as usual. But the exceptional thing was the bowling regardless of the injuries. I hope all of them are fit to play the next match. All the best SL!!

  • Smithie on March 2, 2012, 13:12 GMT

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:11 GMT

Weldone Sri Lanka. No one can say that Assies have given the match to Sri lanka since they are willing to take Sri lanka on Finals....Remember Ausies lost Sri Lanka inpervious 3 matches & Beat India in previous 3 matches...Sri lankans diserved to be the finalists on net run rate also......They were in trouble just because of these stupid rules. Hats off for the captaincy of Mahela who handled the bowlers superbly despite the absence of Thisara & Angelo...Amazsing to see the bowling of Thirimanne........Chandimal has proved again he is going to be a world class batsman.........

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:11 GMT

Why bash India. They were not their best in the tour. Sri Lanka has picked up after leaving SA, Keep it up boys. Win the first match somehow and we''ll be the champs.

  • on March 2, 2012, 13:10 GMT

Dear fellow Srilankan fans, yes we are in the finals that doesnt mean we should attack Indian fans. Yes I have read all the comments what they have posted after winning that Hobart match. But forgive them..because cool and calm is our way of handling things.. anyhow they have some good cricketers too. Lets respect them and celebrate our victory.

  • bMike on March 2, 2012, 13:09 GMT

  • anaken on March 2, 2012, 13:09 GMT

It was a well deserved win for Sri Lanka. As an Indian, I have to say that Sri Lanka played very good cricket and they deserve to be in the finals. They have beaten Aussies thrice in a row, that's a remarkable feat itself, the momemtum is with Sri Lanka now and I hope they win the CB Series. As for the Indian team, you never deserved to win, you played below par sub standard cricket. Congrats Lanka

  • itish_sood on March 2, 2012, 13:09 GMT

Hard luck there ofr we Indians. However, we had the last laugh since we brutally crushed Sri Lanka by finishing them up in 36.4 overs. Come on friends, I don't feel losing a series can really humiliate us. We still are the legal "WORLD CHAMPIONS"

But at least two of the three all-rounders should be fit before the finals if sl going to win the cup. i must thank some of the indian fans who supported sl team and im sure that they would do better in asia cup and will be in the finals. I don't think this SL team could do better in flat and dry pitches in asia than either pakisthan or india.

  • gayansumeera2 on March 2, 2012, 13:00 GMT

India would never play against Australia like the way that they played last match with Sri Lanka if they were qualified to the finals,It was only a do or die situation for a India in that match and they executed their plan very well in the Hobart flat track since the indians are kings of flat tracks and smaller grounds.

  • Hursh_Valecha on March 2, 2012, 13:00 GMT

Congratulations to Sri Lanka Team. They played really well in the series. Better than the indians, no doubt. But for the australians, can anybody thought of aussies not chasing 238, after taking a hat-trick ???? Well, there will be a strong speculation on whether australians really give sri lanka a win !!!! The reason being with the last performance, they know that that team with whom they got defeat twice in series earlier, got "annilated" by indians. 321 in 37 overs, any team will be worried, forget the aussies. Surely, Indians were back in form. But now, nothing can be done. The fact is SL vs AUS are in final. One thing you rest assured, indians will come roaring in the Asia Cup and in T20 world cup.

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:59 GMT

  • MrBrightside92 on March 2, 2012, 12:58 GMT

You have to hand it to Mahela and the SL team for their fight today. Twice they defended 230ish to pick up points. Injuries and not the best umpiring (what would Dhoni/Srikanth be saying?) yet they took their opportunities. I was particularly impressed how upbeat Mahela was after the wretched loss against Kohli (there were some unconfirmed reports of 10 other Indians being on the field) saying positively, qualification was still in their hands. Glad SL are in the final...a few more injuries would be appreciated, preferably Kuma or Mahela as England head to their shores....

  • lankavigi on March 2, 2012, 12:55 GMT

WHAT A WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hats off to the SL team. Before this triangular series had started, I was one of the biggest cricticizers of SL, but now I bow to them. ABSOLUTELY, AMAZING PERFORMANCE. To be honest they have been the best side in this tournament. When India thrashed them, a few days ago, Everyone predicted Indian going to the finals. Many even went to the extent of saying India will win the tournament. But the incredible SL team did not alow that to happen. The big headed Indian fans were over the moon and praising heaps on the indian side. Many were saying that India is a huge country compared to SL and so many other things were said. All Indian channels were over their heads and calling themselves WORLD CHAMPIONS and d best in the world. But what a comeback by SL. SL have played the best cricket in this tournament and deserve a finals spot. India played rubbish and got rubbished in the end. CHAK DE SRI LANKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • IndiaPrevails on March 2, 2012, 12:54 GMT

Sri Lanka played consistently good cricket throughout the tournament and deserved their spot in the finals. They played and won as a team. Wishing the SL team all the best for the finals. Go ahead and win the cup for your country. Congrats from an Indian fan.

  • wjkalana on March 2, 2012, 12:53 GMT

Heres whats gonna happen to India now, Now australia tour is over so they go back home and play on flat pitches and they will again start winning. So everyone is forgiven and everything is forgotten. So they march on to the 2015 WC, as hot favorites, and now in 2014 dec and 2015 Jan they go to australia for 4 test and CB cup. Now again ballers gonna start bouncing India out. Then only India realizes Oh we had a weakness in 2012 (then again it start on 2009) we didnt correct it. So Dhoni will rally his troops and weill ask them to train how to play for the bouncer in 3 months. But in reality theres not enough time left. Weakness is exposed then they go from hot favorite to first round elimination. Then Dhoni will come to the media and will give 1000 excuses. I m not surprised even if he said this and I quote " These opposition teams are not playing to the spirit of the game they ball bouncers at us, they dont pitch the ball up. I think its time now for BCCI and ICC to act on this". LMAO

Well done Sri Lanka the 2 teams who deserve to be in the final are there. 3 cliff hangers out of 4 between these 2 sides as opposed to Australia flogging India 3 times. Australia would have preferred to have played India as they would have flogged them in the fast Brisbane pitch. This is the tightest tri-series ever with 5 cliff hangers out of 12 and the finalist known in the final over of the last match. Are we going to see more cliffhangers??

  • Herath-UK on March 2, 2012, 12:49 GMT

What a sensational match and the Sri Lankans showed they made up of cast iron than frayed nerves. The main thing they proved is they are the Best asian side to play on bouncy fast wickets (they looked to enjoy playing on those, batsmen and bowlers both) and the indians are champions on flat tracks. Ranil Herath - Kent

Australia's plans of helping India into the finals by providing a flat cement-like pitch (only type India can play well on) in Hobart have back fired. The two best teams managed to remain in the finals fixture, and all is well again. Let's hope the finals are as thrilling as this game.

  • Roar911 on March 2, 2012, 12:46 GMT

.... wow, did i hear punching bag? ... thank god SL didnt score 300 odd, otherwise it would have been another 'this is easy, we'll win for sure' thrashing all over again.... never seen SL this committed and united since 1996.... well played mahela, you DO have a ponting in you after all!

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:46 GMT

WELL played SL..Keep Da MOMENTUM..he hehe...!!

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:45 GMT

  • thinktank1 on March 2, 2012, 12:45 GMT

Srilanka looking dangerous. India must be happy going home. Good that they did some shopping and had fun :)

  • johntycodes on March 2, 2012, 12:44 GMT

Once again for some reason australia batted like a test match and at the start of the inning when you should be hitting they look to push singles. Can someone please answer for the 100th time why australia play so conservative in one dayers. Surely it's not to keep wickets in hand because we go out cheaply all the time now whil never taking any risks. Come out in the finals and smash the first 10 overs if we lose wickets so be it. It's better off being 3-70 off 10 than batting safely and nudging to 3-40 off 10.

  • diehardcricketfan3 on March 2, 2012, 12:44 GMT

I am an indian fan. I wanted sl to win this match and finals. They thoroughly deserved it.

  • jmcilhinney on March 2, 2012, 12:44 GMT

Wow! What an exciting series this has been. India were a bit dissapointing but they still had 3 wins and a tie with a bonus point is a game featuring great batting from both sides. Even though this game didn't really mean too much to Australia, given that they were already through, I'm sure that they would have liked to go into the finals with some momentum, especially given that now the opponent will the same one that just beat them. The fact that it meant so much to SL made it extremely exciting and that extra driver may have been what gave them the edge. India must be ruing not making the one extra run in that tie. If they had won that game then they'd have finished level with SL on 17 points and have gone through based on a better winning record against SL.

  • sampathsl on March 2, 2012, 12:44 GMT

Lions are roaring. Be aware Kangaroos.

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:42 GMT

I am an Indian...but I am really happy that India is out of the CB series finally........they do not deserve to be in the Finals........one good game does not compensate for all the poor/dismal show they have showed in this disastrous tour.........I appeal to the Indian cricket team to stop playing with their EGO and rather take pride in playing for your COUNTRY......not many of us get the opportunity to play for his/her country......and SL has been the best team in the tournament so far and clearly they deserve to be the winner............GO SL GO.....best wishes from an Indian !

  • onebump on March 2, 2012, 12:42 GMT

Lets be humble here guys and not do India bashing. They are hurting enough despite the big statements by some fans recently!

Great show SL guys and hope the injuries wont impact the finals! MJ's captaincy was superb! That is the difference a good captain makes. despite losing two frontline bowlers during the match, i dont think there was a step out of place tonight by him!

  • Test-is-the-best on March 2, 2012, 12:40 GMT

One another example for great captaincy. Hats off to Mahela, wonderful attack with a handicapped bowling attack

SR LANKA IN THE FINALS ON MERIT NOT BY DEFAULT. Fantastic show by the Lions. Showed character and fight. It is good to have non-partisan report here. Thank you Brian. Need to Have Mathews wrapped in cotton wool and not let his injuries get the better of him. These all rounders are an integral part of the team and SL cannot afford to be without them. Great innings by David Hussey. He has been consistent and a great asset to OZ. I have only been able to follow up on cricinfo whilst at work. Great excitement and good commentaries too. Wish I was at the MCG too. Cant wait to watch the highlights. In the excitement, I have forgotten to announce the flight departures......All on board now and ready to take off. Good bye India.

I feel your pain Indians. After late fightback in the last match by team India, your disappointment is understandable. You guys are more passionate about cricket than us. India may be out but they can go holding their heads high after showing what they are capable of.Kohli, dhoni and gambhir are really good players . They always play well against SL. Goodbye Team India and expect support from you indian fans for the best of 3 finals.

  • Crickhit on March 2, 2012, 12:38 GMT

"We will be busy shopping. That's something we can afford to do. There is nothing really in our hands." MS Dhoni This is the attitude of the Indian cricketers, they go abroad just to have a good time and think it's a holiday. Damn shame.

  • Kays789 on March 2, 2012, 12:27 GMT

after all the unnecessary stick and ridicule sri lankans have got from the very partisan and clueless indian fans on these threads it's only fitting that their team was responsible in sending the indians packing. just one anomalous innings on a dead pitch changes nothing. the indians have been abysmal and continue to show how woefully inadequate they are in playing out of their comfort zone.

great win by the Sri Lankans. India played terrible cricket against the Aussies and shouldnt have put themselves into this position in the first place. Great fight and resilience. But dont understand why so many Sri Lankan fans are happier about India going home than their team making the finals. Sore from the world cup I suppose. Dont think India made this much of noise when they won in 2007. Anyway Sri Lanka have played consistent and comprehensive cricket and their comeback is commendable.

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:20 GMT

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:12 GMT

Interesting how Some People Prematurely Celebrated an Unworthy Indian entrance to the final! See? Let me tell you something? We Deserve the Finals cuz We Sri Lankans Played with Pride and Honor. Team Inida Just Played for the sake of Playing! They woke up only for ONE game. Which Proves Nothing! Champion lion hearts won the right to play the final and that is that! I stand Proud of MY TEAM!

What a game, Brillant Sri Lanka !!!!!. So what happend to India????, Its time to admit India are only good on flat pitches and are worse than Zimbabwe on quick wickets. Sri Lanka have been the form side of the tournement and deserve to be in the final. The only bad game they had was the last one against india. Dan Christian bowled well and dont take anything away from him but he should't of got the hattrick, mostly due to the Indians not taking DRS in this tournement. And Stunning Captaincy from Mahela Jayawardene to defend such a low score. CONGRATS SRI LANKA !!!!

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:09 GMT

Always happy when Aus loses! Go Sri Lanka in the finals!

It was very delightful watching a match that was unpredictable till the last over. SL have better chances to win the finals against AUS. Good luck for the both SL and AUS cricket teams or their finals. Dhoni and team can be still proud of their performance. They did win few matches and Virat played an unforgettable match in Hobart. However India need to improve their fielding. Hope India will put up a better fight in Asia Cup. Congrats to Sri Lanka. Lets get ready for Finals.

Its a real shame that India have had to cheer in this match for Aussies who had given them battering all along the summer.... 4- 0 white wash in test and 3 - 1 in ODI with 3 bonus points........ But SL kept their destiny in their hands and fought as real LIONS..........anyway great game of cricket today......... Looking forward to have a great games of cricket in best of three Finals.......ultimately 2 best teams were selected.....good balanced teams

not a good way to reach finals for both the teams...

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:07 GMT

Sri Lanka deserved to have a spot in the final. We have been really consistent for the last 4, 5 matches. Most of the best players are in form. I feel a little bit sorry for the IND vs SL match. India won that match because they had nothing to lose. Way to go Sri Lanka. It is great that we beat Australia for three times consecutively. Hope the same result will be there at the end of the final.

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:07 GMT

what a win by Srilanka... no words for that amazing win. India must have to find an early flight to home so they can prepare themselves for upcoming Asia Cup. #cricinfo must have an option to like or dislike the comments...

Funny to see the some of the comments by indian supporters. you guys be hoping to sneak into the finals. id have more respect for you had you done well in this Aussie tournament. but no. so for obvious reasons you dont deserve to be in the finals. let alone deserve to be called world champions. because champions dont hope for a win. they fight for it.

Go Lanka. All the way. Proud of you boys.

  • wjkalana on March 2, 2012, 12:03 GMT

It was a unfair rule that got SL almost out of the tournament and bring back flat track bully indian team on to the final. And finally its a deserving two teams are on the final. Pack your bags india theres a flight for you to catch. And show u r colors in asia cup as its on flat tracks. Remember best team on this tournament is SL (I m not saying that it was said by Mr Manjekar) and SL is the team in danger of not making to the final. SL beat australia 3 times out of 4 games where as India lost to Australia 3 times with bonus points. SL only had a one bad game, Aus were fighting hard to win the game against SL so they can play the final against india and beat them easily. Well that plan didnt work out. with 2 injuries still they managed to win hats off to SL.

  • on March 2, 2012, 12:00 GMT

Fittingly so, coz they deserved more than India, one fluke wonder, a spot in the Finals and now the Aussies must be quite aware of what the Lankans can do as they have been beating them frequently so far the on going series is concern.

India deserved to be kicked out. Sri Lanka look every bit of a finalist unlike India, who played some atrocious cricket over the past three months. Hats off to the Lions for pulling this off. Should be an even content in the final and hopefully, the Lankans would come out as the winner.

  • Cool_Jeeves on March 2, 2012, 11:58 GMT

A thoroughly merited entry for Sri Lanka into the final. But some embarassment saved for Tendulkar as he can exit Australia without suffering three more matches without a century. Now he can safely lick his chops waiting for Dhaka.

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:58 GMT

sooo end of the last match the indian fans were talking about reading the comments from the start made by lankans... i did it this time and its making me LOL

Congrats lankan tigers! U deservd that thoroughly with regards frm pakistan

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:57 GMT

Very pleased to see that a worthy team will contest the final - one masterclass chase does not erase the utter dross that India have served up over the last three months. They have a lot of thinking to do and good luck to them. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have gained some momentum from this game and have turned around 10 months or so of inconsistency. Let's just hope the three pace bowling allrounders are fit to face the Aussies, otherwise it will required some serious resourcefulness from Captain Marvel.

Congrats Sri Lanka! The best team of the tournament won and deservedly enter the finals with Australia. Sri Lanka have shown that subcontinent teams can adapt quickly to conditions if they show common sense and a positive attitude. The Indians could learn a lot from watching the Sri Lankan's demeanor and body language. The Indian tour has to be one of the most disappointing of any touring side, in recent memory. One hit wonders at best! Thank you SL for giving proper competition.

  • buccinator on March 2, 2012, 11:56 GMT

Feel so sorry for the 'WORLD CHAMPIONS' Your prayers are not answered today. Also something for the Indian fans, A team does NOT become great just b'cos of one victory, as you were saying after the last match. Also Indians must remember how Jayasuriya make 'Manoj Prabkakar' leave Cricket, and in contrast just look at the way Malinga bounced back!!!!!!!!!!! Just shows his heart and personality!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NavinChowdary on March 2, 2012, 11:56 GMT

Common Master Plaster sorry Blaster..its time to go to India..dont tour to Aus or SL or PAK.. better tour to Honkong, Ireland, Malaysia who started playing cricket.. You can scrore millions of runs ..All the best for you career...hope to end your career on 2100 year....

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:54 GMT

    bye bye bye INDIA................. LOL

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:54 GMT

sorry for the delay india, your flights ready for boarding now.....

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:54 GMT

Ah ha what's up guys now.....??? SL is in the final :)) You poor Indians have to pack your bags and return to the India.. SL got three consecutive victories against Australia and poor Indians loose three matches giving bonus points to them... Now tell me who deserves to be in the finals.....???? As a Sri Lankan now I need not to see that Sri Lankan will bring the CB series Cup into mother land. But I know they will do it... The only thing I wanted is to see that poor Indians returns to the India without qualifying into the finals... That's it ha ha :))))))))))))

  • SriSanka on March 2, 2012, 11:53 GMT

Pack up...pack up India.......now fly home

  • GRAMMY_SACHIN on March 2, 2012, 11:52 GMT

Congratulations Srilanka. I am Indian Supporter but hats off to Mahela and his Team for the way they came back hard after Hobart. The most deserving team in the competition to win the title. I strongly back SL to win the CB series. Pshycological upper hand after beating AUS 3 out of 4 times (once with a bonus point). Come on brothers. tharsh Ausiies in the finals and bring their ICC rankings down to where they ought to be. The Ranking looks more reasonable now. Inverterity will now know the value of a very ordinary cricketer called Ricky Ponting. They made a BIG BLUNDER in dropping him. They should have allowed the greatest AUS cricketer (after Sir Don) to sign off after this tri-series. Momentum is truly & squarely with the Lankan brothers.

  • Daran9 on March 2, 2012, 11:51 GMT

Brilllllllllllliant boys. I do feel for INDIA! But SL deserve it better than INDIA to be in the final. I hope Indian fans can understand now what Mahela said yesterday. He said final is in our hands rather than qualifying by default which would have happened to INDIA if Aussies won this match. We, Sri Lankans are down to earth people. We do respect every one. Indian fans, please do not take it in a wrong way. We do know that Indian team can be dangerous at any point. India has proved it in the last match. India will come back hard in Asia Cup. But now, it is going to be a fascinating in CB series final. I could assure Aussies will come back and hit us hard. SL should be prepared for it.

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:51 GMT

    Well done Sri lanka...............

  • jayaboy on March 2, 2012, 11:51 GMT

congrtulations mahela and company,Poor dhoni and his team waited for three finals, thanks mahela send them back to india. rest of things you know better than me.good luck boys,

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:50 GMT

Sri Lanka entered this match with their fate in their own hands. It turns out they are pretty safe hands. Not even a hat-trick from Daniel Christian, a four-wicket comeback from James Pattinson, a captain's half-century from Shane Watson or a remarkable late fighting fifty from David Hussey could prevent Sri Lanka from winning the last qualifying match at the MCG. yes true

  • Nizraanj on March 2, 2012, 11:49 GMT

I hope all the Indian Supporters who degraded SL can eat their own words! Only SL deserved to be in the Finals!!!

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:48 GMT

yeah they won kudos to the lankan lions and Indians didnt deserve the finals head to head against Srilanka we were way better if we hadnt tied the second match it wouldnt have been the case it just shows that even captaincy can win you matches like it did against Aussies today by Mahela but come Asia Cup in flat pitches we are the champs again for sure

  • nikhilb239 on March 2, 2012, 11:48 GMT

India didn't deserve to be in the finals after the way they played. Its only appropriate that Aus and SL should be in the finals.

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:48 GMT

ha ha ha what happened :) to india

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:48 GMT

and now may i see some indian pals around praying and day dreamin for a plaz in the finals o.O coz they are jz kikd out off the tournamnet with ausis losin this match by 9 runs against LIONS :D hav a safe journey bak to Indai guys

  • orangtan on March 2, 2012, 11:47 GMT

@crazycricketlover20-20 super, you predicted 225, they made 229. SL will definitely be worthy opponents against Aus in the final and must be favourites to win, the Indians would have been annihilated especially at the Gabba.

  • OffStumpLine on March 2, 2012, 11:47 GMT

Being an Indian, it has to be just one of those days when I was rooting for the Aussies whilst they were playing an Asian team! But now that it's done and dusted, sad as I am, there is no shame in admitting that the best 2 teams have qualified for the finals. My best wishes SL and hope that you continue your 'Aussie-beating-run' and win the CB series! Well done guys and now go all the way and make it 5-0 against the Aussies! :)

  • SeamingWicket on March 2, 2012, 11:47 GMT

I think now is a good time to clarify something. I keep seeing some people posting comments that SL have never won a series outside Asia. Not true. Sri Lanka beat england 5-0 IN England. Was an ODI series. I also remember them win a series in Australia before 2011 World Cup.

  • Kays789 on March 2, 2012, 11:47 GMT

haha for all the ridiculous claims made by the indians! thats how you 'earn' a place in the finals!

  • Akheel on March 2, 2012, 11:46 GMT

    SRI LANKA; U BUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTY

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:45 GMT

i am very proud of my team not because of the win or the spot in the finals or the top on the table just because of the way the fought it ... in this series there were 4 final over matches and srilanka was involved in all 4 and also they gave away only one bonus point away............. today they lost two of there main all rounders and stl the way they foughtwas something special......for the first time i have saw tears on mahis eyes ..boy i can understan why ...good luck on the finals we have won the battle here comes the war

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:45 GMT

Congrtsss ..... India doesnt deserve to enter final. I wish Srilanka will be the champion of this tournament.

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:45 GMT

    @crazycricketlover20-20 you were correct!! :D

  • veerakannadiga on March 2, 2012, 11:43 GMT

SL deserved this final spot. Any team that beats Australia thrice is a very good team. Good that India are out of the tournament, at least now we can watch some matches without any tension. We Indians dug our own grave by playing some mediocre cricket. One baffling thing about this CB series is, Australia are sweating & bleeding to beat SL, but are unable to do so where as they just beat Indians with disdain & on the other hand this same Indian team beat SL a couple of times. Anyways well played SL, and you SL fans just don't start India bashing now that you are in the finals. We deserved to lose and looking at the selection for the Asia cup, we deserve to lose that also. AMEN

  • missmess on March 2, 2012, 11:43 GMT

  • Trioboy on March 2, 2012, 11:43 GMT

Bye Bye India.. You can pack your bags now. Finals would be more thrilling with Sri Lanka in. Indians can't play on bouncy pitches anyway. Gabba and Adelaide aren't Flat Tracks .

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:42 GMT

I am indian supporter n i was cheering for australia in this match for obvious reasons...but i think sri lanka deserves to go into final... first they always play wid their full potential.. and they have defeated aus 3 times in a row and now finals will be now much more interesting..if india would have went to final i knw australia would have thrashed them ...anyways good luck tigers for the finals :) plz publish

  • MrSlickJerk on March 2, 2012, 11:42 GMT

Great stuff from Sri Lanka. I'm amazed how Australia just can't beat Sri Lanka. India plays poorly against Australia and they shredded Sri Lanka. Its really hard to say whos better than who.

  • FLIPPER_99 on March 2, 2012, 11:41 GMT

haha INDIA go pack your bags and go home now! its pathetic that you people even thought that u could go 2 the final because another team loses.. india didnt deserve 2 be in the finals from the begining of the series itself and deep down the indian fans also knew that

  • Ind_Cric_Fan79 on March 2, 2012, 11:41 GMT

SL once again proved they are the better side in this series.... Congrats SL team and bros... am an Indian Fan.. I know SL deserves the place in the final than India... Love the way Chandimal is playing.... Hope SL wins the cup...... Hope MY team will come back in ASIA cup....

  • Silverbails on March 2, 2012, 11:41 GMT

Congrats to SL: Brilliant win against all the odds, especially given the relatively low score made by the SL batters at the MCG. Well done Mahela, and particularly Lasith's death bowling back to its usual brilliance, after the debacle against India. Congrats to the whole SL team, again, who REALLY DESERVED be in the CB Finals, especially given the way that they have improved throughout the tournament, and given the loses were also very close ones!! I hope that SL wins in the finals, too...they certainly deserve to!! As for India - well, it's the usual TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE, when it REALLY doesn't matter anymore!! They'll have an early flight back home. Hopefully the BCCI DON'T IGNORE what's happened in Australia and MAKE the WHOLESALE team changes that are clearly required for Team India to win again at Test match level, in particular. I'm afraid, it's time for goodbye's to SRT, VVS and Rahul, and for Raina and Rohit Sharma in the ODI's. Only Kohli has passion in BOTH forms!!

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:41 GMT

hey india, plz stay australia, see the finals!

  • NavinChowdary on March 2, 2012, 11:41 GMT

What a thrilling end of the match..SL fought back well..this is called spirit..Indians must learn from SL how to play..they deserve Win.. definitely SL will win finals with Aussies...Indian team- It's time to pack you bags for Asia Cup to get tons of runs on teams like Bangladesh, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Bermuda, Namibia, Hongkong. Wish you all the best India Team.. Go india Go...

  • KingOwl on March 2, 2012, 11:39 GMT

This is a phenomenal win, with two front line bowlers injured, Mahela had to account for a full 15 over, and SL still did it. Umpiring did not go their way either. Absolutely Brilliant! Go Lions!!

India go home.....Srilanka come home with the series win.........

  • bobmartin on March 2, 2012, 11:38 GMT

Excellent stuff by Sri Lanka. Did the Australians throw the game away so they don't have to face a rampant India? Well guess what? This SL side will be tough to beat. They've beaten the aussies 3 times to 1!

  • spot_on on March 2, 2012, 11:37 GMT

I'm ready to take the bash for spelling out the truth... Peace!!!!!!

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:37 GMT

being indian, i am happy that indians are out of the tournament now. i am expecting the bcci to atleast now agree that india is defeated by none other than our own players and needs some finetuning in the team. stil don't understand how bcci expected miracles from vinay and praveen ordinary bowlers.Ashwin has also proved to be in the list. i didn't see that fighting spirit india showed last time 2008 cb series. Raina, rohit, ashwin and vinay needs to perform more in the national levels. Well played srilanka after miraculuous defeat two days ago...

  • Maxx88 on March 2, 2012, 11:37 GMT

Oh Aussies has done it again !!! Another fake one. Aussies lost becoz they know if they win this they will lose final and if they lose this they will win final. Now you see there wont even be 3rd final. Aus will smash SL in first two games. And with the present form of Indian players Aus would have been out in first two finals. Good job Clarke.

Great support Melbourne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • on March 2, 2012, 11:33 GMT

Australia all the way in their chase gave a false impression of winning the game, but everybody knew that they did not want to face India in the finals after the last match heroics by the Indian team. Indian cricketers need to be blaming themselves for this situation where they were waiting for the result of a match which they were not part of. Finally they can pack their bags with all the shopping they did after their match against Srilanka ;) This ends their pathetic overseas performance Down under.

Srilanka win and seal a spot in the finals. Deservedly so considering they won the last 3 games against australia.

I am an Indian and supporter of both Srilanka and India but considering how the Indians have played in this series i feel they did not deserve to be in the finals.

Hope Srilanka win the CB Series. They lost 2 bowlers in the match and still made a match out of it and won it.

    Superb.. Simply superb

SL have beaten AUS thrice now - its unfair to make them win 2 more times to lift the cup. They should be declared the winners!

  • mars2009 on March 2, 2012, 11:27 GMT

SL is most deserving team to be in finals. No problem for India, next two years no more tour away from subcontinent. Too much victories, too much runs, too much centuries. By the end of 2013 there will be twist in story after South African tour. Again Indians fans ask for the heads of their team but still 2013 is so far till then Cheers!!

  • rahulcricket007 on March 2, 2012, 11:27 GMT

  • NP_NY on March 2, 2012, 11:26 GMT

Will done SL. Aus were just not hungry enough for the win. Why would they be, bcoz they would rather face SL than India knowing what happenend in the last CB series final. SL deserves to be in the final because they have dominated the Aussies. But as usual, India dominated SL like they've always done at home and abroad.

All over for India - and deservedly so. One awesome performance from Kohli not enough to pull them out of third place in a three horse race. But no doubt they will all be happy to have a longer recovery period before the IPL kicks off - after all, what is more important - playing for your country or earning a a bit more cash?

  • VivGilchrist on March 2, 2012, 11:22 GMT

Note to Aus tailenders- if ur going to go down, go down swinging

  • VivGilchrist on March 2, 2012, 11:15 GMT

  • Stick_cricket on March 2, 2012, 11:08 GMT

Aussies are scared to face India in Finals, that is the only justification for such a performance

  • on March 2, 2012, 10:55 GMT

Dear Australia, Do you want to play the finals against a team you lost to, the last time you met; or a team you beat the last time you met? Think about it machans, think. Now go win come on!!!!

  • Prajay1986 on March 2, 2012, 10:48 GMT

come back India,..SL deserves the place in the finals,.. they played very well,.... start everything fresh, start from scratch... - A Indian Fan,.... A true Cricket Fan...

  • on March 2, 2012, 10:47 GMT

bye bye india...pack your bags..... :D

  • on March 2, 2012, 10:40 GMT

IF SRILANAKA WIN THEY ARE IN THE FINALS THEY DESERVE TO BE IF NOT INDIA WILL GO THROUGH BY LUCK

  • on March 2, 2012, 10:36 GMT

I think Australians are crumbling down under the pressure from Indian Cricket fans.

  • on March 2, 2012, 10:24 GMT

india won the match i m sure

  • hawkeye30 on March 2, 2012, 10:17 GMT

@Anuhya Parekar- firstly for Sri Lankans to blame it on the CB series rules the game is for from over. Intact at this moment Aus 159/6 and Lanka is on top. Win or lose Lankans are far different from Indian fans although the two countries are placed very close to each other. Hence the blaming game is not a game we play over in Lanka. Win or lose we respect and love our cricketer unlike y'all. So pls stop assuming that Lankan fan is equal to the Indian fan. We are far apart mate.

  • on March 2, 2012, 10:15 GMT

I wish SL will b there!!! realy India dnt dsrv it!!!

  • on March 2, 2012, 10:15 GMT

This Will Be SL game...Come on....NO INDIA PLS

  • on March 2, 2012, 9:50 GMT

If India comes for the final against Aussies there won't be any competition, just a white wash.

  • on March 2, 2012, 9:47 GMT

he he..Malinga to Watson, OUT, bowled him!

  • on March 2, 2012, 9:42 GMT

In Sri Lanka's cricket personal factors takes prominence over and above the country. Dilshan is such a good bowler, but Mahela never gives him a chance, though he uses all others. This way SL can never become champions.

  • on March 2, 2012, 9:39 GMT

Sorry Sri Lanka.... Finals are between India and Australia :D :D

  • SimplyPratt on March 2, 2012, 9:26 GMT

Australia's gonna win!!! India through to the finals!

  • on March 2, 2012, 9:25 GMT

Pathetic display in the whole series and then a jaw dropping performance to stay in the cb series from india.Whoever qualifies will be deserving.India can go out today but i wont complain......We are still the world Champs.

  • on March 2, 2012, 9:22 GMT

india can only reach the finals.... if aus beats sri lanka along with the bonus point.

  • on March 2, 2012, 9:09 GMT

Srilanka has already made to the FINAL! Do the math and see people. Calculate the run rate and check it out. xD GO home INDIA!!!

  • atuljain1969 on March 2, 2012, 8:39 GMT

INDIANS DO NOT DESERVE TO BE IN FINAL ON THE BASIS OF JUST ONE MATCH AND ONE MAN PERFORMANCE.

  • on March 2, 2012, 8:21 GMT

    huh...india,1.pack ur bags..2.keep praying..wat a shame baby

  • satish619chandar on March 2, 2012, 8:17 GMT

I think 238 is a challenging score on the pitch.. 280 would allow the opposition to attack directly.. 180 will allow them to approach it steadily.. But 240 is the one which will land the chasers in trouble.. I would rather say SL has upper hand at the middle stage..

  • on March 2, 2012, 8:15 GMT

@Anushya Parekar: Not so fast baby... A lot is to happen :)

  • rahulcricket007 on March 2, 2012, 8:07 GMT

I M AN INDIAN FAN & I WANT SL TO WIN TODAY & QUALIFY FOR FINALS . SL HAVE PLAYED WELL IN ALL MATCHES EXCEPT THE LAST MATCH AGAINST IND . THEY DESERVE THE FINAL BERTH . INDIAN FANS SHOULD NOT HOPE FOR FINALS . ONE MATCH WILL NOT CHANGE THE THRASHING WE SUFFERED IN ALL AUSTRLAIN SUMMER . PLUS IF INDIA QULAIFY FOR FINALS THEN AUS WILL EASILY WIN . ATLEAST SL GAVE GOOD FIGHT TO AUS .

  • Gamaraala on March 2, 2012, 8:03 GMT

Anuhya: dude, no one blames for the rules as those were known to SL team from the beginning... unlike the Indian team, who got to know the rules the last moment.

  • Alexk400 on March 2, 2012, 8:03 GMT

Aussies are choking, They won't win against jayawardene wile captaincy even in finals.

  • rock.rockyin on March 2, 2012, 7:59 GMT

There is nothing that India gonna loose from this. India have ended the trip on a high than going heads down into Asia Cup. There is so much of self introspection needed though. If India goes to final it would be good to atleast pull off something from no where. I still remember the greatest performance of India by winning 2007 CB Series. Thats the need of the hr they go through.

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:59 GMT

hey! how can india reached the final unless aus beats sri lanka along with the bonus point. if they beat sri lanka (no bonus point) in today' s match there point's total will be : 23 Srilanka with 1 point from todays game will end at : 16. india who have played all there matches will finish at : 15.

  • gpsir on March 2, 2012, 7:56 GMT

Looks like SL have the chance at this stage. OZ 20-2 in 5 Overs.

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:52 GMT

Sl is favourite now.. its 18/2.....

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:47 GMT

A ha-trick that can win a place for India in final...Dan Christian took a ha-trick against Srilanka in the last league match of the ongoing CB series which restricted the lankan score to 238. He finished with figures of 9-0-31-5. But just looking back those 3 hat-trick wickets, I really doubt whether its a hat-trick that can come under the name 'Dan Christian'. He bowled really well & tight but here the credit of the 1st wicket goes to M.Hussey...What an agile fielding. That was a sure boundary. But we seen mind-blowing fieldsmanship in the past which gifted hat-tricks to bowlers. The second wicket was a decent delivery and Senanayake was plumb!..Here we got Dan Christian 'on-hat-trick'. In came the batsman Nuwan Kulasekara. Same kind of delivery from Christian and hits on the Kulasekara's pad. But this time, ball pitched slightly leggish and probably missing the leg stump as it drifts further rightwards on the rise. Quite ritualistically, as he was on hat-trick, Christian appealed and

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:42 GMT

Yeah, welldone india, keep praying harder..bit harder so that it do not rain or Australia do not bat badly.Ur CB cricket destiny now is in the Australian hands.Pray, pray,Pray & PRAY......LOL

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:32 GMT

From an Australian supporters perspective the indian team don't deserve to be in the final. They have played pathetically against Australia giving them three bonus points in all of the losses against them , due to stupid commonwealth bank rules which favour wins over net run rate you may scrape through to the final. No team with a net run rate of -0.593 deserves to compete in the finals especially against Australia. I hope Sri Lanka wins so I can see a competitive games in the final not a white wash against the Indians.

  • atuljain1969 on March 2, 2012, 7:32 GMT

Take my word Srilankan are going to win it. A very special from Malinga is due.

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:30 GMT

India show was finished in last match........again their legs will tremble wen they face aussies 4 the final

  • RajOberoi on March 2, 2012, 7:29 GMT

i will bet on australia on today's match... SL lost there way at the end of the overs...

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:27 GMT

Tonight we'll see Sri Lankan fans blaming CB series rules. ROFL!

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:26 GMT

hey mahela & co, way to sell our country off for ipl contracts.

  • crazycricketlover20-20 on March 2, 2012, 7:24 GMT

THE MIRACLE WILL HAPPEN.AUSSIES WILL BE ALL OUT AROUND 225 .THEN WHAT ITS THE AUSSIE SL FINAL.COME ON MAHELA.....

  • missionbegins2011 on March 2, 2012, 7:23 GMT

SL is going out of the tournament, no second thoughts on that, 238 is not defendable against AUS, its soooooo funny because at one point it looked like that SL would top the league and IND was virtually out, even dhoni was not aware that IND had a chance ahahaha

  • zapeta on March 2, 2012, 7:21 GMT

SrilankA needs allroounders like jayasuriya, not the perera's and Maharoof's. Mouth watering Batting display by SL. SL fans really enjoyed it.. I am a Srilankan Fan toooo

  • satishsasikumar on March 2, 2012, 7:20 GMT

@zapeta..are you watching the match today?..Maharoof is not playing due to back injury...

  • SKR7 on March 2, 2012, 7:17 GMT

@viratreddy : And then India are going to be beaten 2-0 in the finals.....

  • Navaid-Hussain on March 2, 2012, 7:14 GMT

Chandimal is good young find for SL, but he use to through is wicket and does not make big runs.

  • johnathonjosephs on March 2, 2012, 7:09 GMT

And the Indians may as well start celebrating. 238 on a flat pitch

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:09 GMT

    Umpire`s hat-trick well-done...................

  • on March 2, 2012, 7:06 GMT

Srilanka Will losss And I am sure India will play final

  • PPL11 on March 2, 2012, 7:04 GMT

Come on SL pack your bags, See you again in ASIA Cup. LOL :) :) :) :)

  • sri1ram on March 2, 2012, 6:55 GMT

Wow, a hat-trick for Christian.. Am another Indian supporter, but the last wicket looks suspiciously in the favor of a final that includes India ;-) Who cares, as long as we get to the final, eh?

  • satish619chandar on March 2, 2012, 6:50 GMT

Pretty difficult for SL to manage this much all rounders in batting order.. Last year, Malinga was no.9.. He was in decent form too.. In last series, Kula was the go to man in the SA series and did a good job.. But now, suddenly Kula bats at 9 and Malinga at 11.. I think they should have moved Sena and Herath at 10 and 11 with Kula at 8 and Malinga at 9..

  • zapeta on March 2, 2012, 6:50 GMT

oh oh oh dear Sanga you are right Srilanka are Vulnerable Overseas. Hatrick to Christian will boost his confidence as International Player.. But wat a great performance by Mahela Youngsters.. 1.MAthews 2. Thisara 3.SenanayAKE. I think Srilankan Fans now have to Calm down and accept that they cant win on Flat tracks also.. thisara perara and Maharoof will be smashed over the park in non seaming conditions.. SL should try selecting Specialists than this amateur Allrounders. Favours doesnt come easily in Cricket Cricket Mr.Mahela

  • viratreddy on March 2, 2012, 6:49 GMT

U man christian awesome continue same form with the bat also...........gud luck

  • on March 2, 2012, 6:47 GMT

  • pantas22 on March 2, 2012, 6:46 GMT

I love watching CHANDIMAL play. He is new kid on the block, and is certain to be a future star in making. Very sure of his shots and restless. attacking and technically correct too. Best buy for this years IPL.

  • MiddleComment on March 2, 2012, 5:42 GMT

Funny what is happen to India, waiting others to lose to get in to finals? If u wants to play in finals then you have to achieve it. Nevertheless if India come's to finals buy looking at their records in this season Australia need only two games.

  • on March 2, 2012, 5:32 GMT
