Jack Murphy, a product of the Glamorgan academy, was one of the few bright spots for the county in a dismal 2018 season. Murphy rounded off the season with single-handed resistance - 80 out of 186 at Canterbury against a Kent side heading for promotion - in a match where Glamorgan were confirmed as Championship wooden spoonists after losing by an innings. It won him a new two-year deal as Glamorgan insisted there would be no let up in their drive to find homegrown players.

Murphy,a left-handed allrounder with a disciplined batting approach, was signed by Glamorgan on a development contract in 2014 having been named Academy Player of the Year in 2013. He was forced to sit out 2012 with injury but returned to play for Ammanford in the South Wales Premier League and made regular appearance for Glamorgan second XI. He spent the following winter in New Zealand. Murphy made his first-class debut against Glamorgan playing for Cardiff MCCU in 2015.
