Samuel Dudson was a batsman who played for Union CC and who represented USA in their first four internationals against Canada between 1844 and 1846. It was Dudson who triggered the incident which led to the abandonment of the 1846 match and the suspension of the series for seven years when he shoulder charged a bowler who was attempting to catch him, believing it was legal to do so (it had been a century earlier).
