The demise of the Ashby Road ground shortly before the Second World War left Hinckley without a venue for first-class cricket, but local businessmen rallied and Arthur Tansey donated three adjoining fields and a cricket pitch and pavilion were built. In 1951 their efforts were rewarded when Derbyshire played a Championship match on the ground and they did so through to 1964. The land was subsequently used for a leisure centre.
