John Brand was a right-hand opening batsman who played predominantly for the MCC in the first quarter of the 19th century. In 1820 he took part in a single-wicket match at Lord's against Edward Budd. Brand made 0 and 0 while Budd amassed 101 in his two innings, adding to Brand's humiliation by deliberately knocking down his stumps in both innings to shorten what was a drubbing.
