Profile

A fast bowler who made his first-class debut for Essex in 2005 against Derbyshire at Chelmsford, Mervyn Westfield's career came to a shuddering halt when has was jailed for spot-fixing in February 2012. He was arrested in May 2010 over allegations that he had agreed to concede a set number of runs off an over during a televised Pro40 matches against Durham. In January 2012, he became the first English cricketer to be convicted of spot-fixing after pleading guilty at the Old Bailey to criminal charges arising from the investigation.
