Playing Role

Bowler

Oliver Hannon-Dalby is a tall (about six feet, seven inches), medium-fast bowler who developed through the Yorkshire youth system and made his first-class debut for the club, aged just 18, in 2008. While his maiden wicket was Mark Ramprakash, he had to wait until 2010 to play another game. He claimed five-wicket hauls in the first two Championship matches of the season - against Warwickshire and Somerset - but fell out of favour at the start of 2011 and, despite being drafted in to make his T20 debut in the Champions League of 2012, he opted to join Warwickshire for the 2013 season.

In his second Championship game for his new county, Hannon-Dalby batted for 78 minutes with an arm broken by an Alfonso Thomas delivery to help his side save the match against Somerset. But it was in 2014 that he really began to contribute. Despite his relatively gentle pace, he emerged as a calm death bowler and played a crucial role in Warwickshire's NatWest T20 Blast triumph - he claimed three wickets in the final against Lancashire and survived a memorable assault (both cricketing and verbal) by Andrew Flintoff. Two years later, he was a member of the Royal London Cup-winning side. His red-ball game also began to come into its own, and in 2019 he hinted at his full potential with 44 wickets at 25.65.

It wasn't until his early 30s that Hannon-Dalby finally hit his stride. Between 2022 and 2024, he played every County Championship game for Warwickshire bar one, achieving 50 wickets three seasons in a row. On the final day of the 2022 season, his 1 for 40 was the perfect foil for Liam Norwell's 9 for 62 as the Bears dramatically beat Hampshire to avoid relegation. The following summer, he produced his best Championship haul of 54 at 19.07, as well as finishing as the leading wicket-taker in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

Away from playing, Hannon-Dalby has become increasingly involved in the work of the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA). After serving for 10 years as Warwickshire's PCA representative, in 2025 he was elected as the organisation's chair.
