Duncan Fearnley, the former Worcestershire player and chairman, has agreed to stay away from New Road following what is reported as "a couple of drink-related incidents" at the ground.

Fearnley is understood to have apologised to the county's committee and agreed to stay away for the remainder of the season.

As chairman, Fearnley, who became a millionaire through his international-famous bat-manufacturing company, was instrumental in bringing big names - such as Ian Botham and Graham Dilley - and trophies to Worcestershire in the 1980s.
