England Lions v Bangladesh A, 3rd unofficial ODI, Taunton August 24, 2013

Naeem ton secures Bangladesh A win at last

Bangladesh A 324-6 (Naeem 121*, Raqibul 72) beat England Lions 319-7 (Balance 87, Vince 63, Al-Amin 3-70) by four wickets

Bangladesh A salvaged some pride from their disastrous tour, after they beat England Lions by four wickets in the third and final one-day game. Naeem Islam was the hero for the visitors, chaperoning the 320-run chase and getting an unbeaten century himself.

This was Bangladesh A's first win on tour, after they lost five matches to county sides and conceded the three-match one-day series to the Lions by losing the first two games.

Naeem's unbeaten 121 came off just 100 balls and was highlighted by 15 boundaries and two sixes. He was instrumental in maintaining a good run rate after Imrul Kayes and Raqibul Hasan added 58 for the second wicket. Raqibul, who chipped in with 72, and Naeem then added 104 for the third wicket. Naeem kept going, adding another 76 for the fifth wicket with Shamsur Rahman, and an unbroken seventh-wicket partnership worth 36 runs with Farhad Reza that eventually clinched the game.

The Lions bowlers didn't help matters, conceding 35 extras, of which 12 were no-balls. In the finishing stages, Ben Stokes bowled two beamers, and was promptly taken out of the attack by the umpires, Tymal Mills called on to finish the over. Stokes, however, was the most successful (albeit most expensive) bowler with 3 for 74.

The Lions' decision to bat first was again vindicated by their third successive 300-plus score in the series. Opener James Vince made 63 off 70 balls while Gary Ballance struck 87 off 102 balls with seven boundaries.

This time, however, their finishing wasn't as good as the last two games, with only James Taylor making 44 off 29 balls with three fours and two sixes. Al-Amin Hossain took 3 for 70 while Robiul Islam picked up two wickets for 60 runs.

Great game by our batsmen finally. Naeem just played himself in to the national team with this wonderful innings. He needs to make sure he makes it count and try to cement his place in the national team. Good innings by Raqibul and Shamsur as well

Overall I hope our boys learned something on this tour. We have a long ways to go before we can compete in these conditions on a consistent basis.

From this team, Naeem, Anamul, Shamsur, Mominul, Gazi, Robiul, Zia, Al-Amin and Elias should be able to make the NZ tour.

A player from Barbados, a player from Zimbabwe, a player from New Zealand etc in this Lions team :)

@Kawzar Azam: Naeem didn't fail in this tour. Please check all the scorecards carefully on this tour. Him, Anamul and Shamsur were the 'consistent' batsman on this tour. You said Naeem was inconsistent but here are his scores - 13, 57, 13, 47*, 12, 31 and 121* which equates to 294 runs average of 58.8. He is the only 1 that doesn't have a single figure score. I don't think he'll get into the ODI team still but tests yes. Or do you know anyone else how has a better temperament than him in the team?

Lol the entire Tour NAEM failed with the bat now only one performance out of the blue and our Supporters including him in the National squad, wow on the mindset! I bet if he play another game he will flop again

Why not pick players from domestic and those who performs consistently? Consistent 50 is better than one hundred in 10 games

Finally a consolation win after 7 consecutive defeats. But this win can't b reply of losing to 2nd string sides of 5 counties and huge defeats to Lions in 1st 2 matches of this series. Per4mance of U-23 team in ACC Emerging Cup in Singapore & U-19 team in England tri-series is also alarming for BD cricket's future. BCB should give extra efforts to groom A, U-23, U-19 etc sides. Otherwise fate of BD cricket won't change in this decade. Anyway, contest between England Lions & Bangladesh A was even as BD A won home series against Eng Lions by 3-2 margin last year. So, 2-1 loss to Lions isn't frustrating this time.

Few findings of this tour- Anamul, Naeem, Robiul, Ziaur:All can be the regular part of our national team; Noor Hossain-Findings of future; Kayes, Shamsur, Ayub, Rubel, Rakibul: Still long way to go for the national team; Jahurul,Gazi,Farhad:Real disappointment of this tour.Im thoroughly disappointed with Shohag Gazi .He is the genuine let back of this tour. But at the end congrats to BAN A to register at least ONE win of this tour which is against the strong ENG A.

The innings of Naeem can be an example for all Bangladeshi batsmen while chasing a good target and lost early wickets. Raqibul once again proved he plays for himself not for the team. But the turning point of the match was the assault by Shamsur and Naeem. Before that it was Lions game to loose and everything changed after that partnership.

Bangladesh team got to believe that its a normal result. This not an upset. So, take it easy and be confident. Not over confident. Not put pressure on yourself. This is the key to be consistent. Bowling is not up to the mark. Top order also need to improve. Let's take it easy and develop our skill. Never loose your confidence and courage.Good job!!

Any way, James Taylor must make his ODI debut vs Australia now. He will be a fine test batsman but an even better ODI batsman. Bell and Trott have been given the long rope in ODIs and neither is winning any games even though they have excellent records. In ODI and T20 teams you need impact players rather than safe players and apart from KP and Morgan there are no impact players in the ODI team. Buttler has been a failure.
