Offspinner Peter Sharp played eight first-class matches for Canterbury over two seasons, taking 21 wickets at an average of 26.90. After his playing days, Sharp began a 45-year commentary career in 1966 and was also involved in coaching. He served on the New Zealand Cricket board, was president of Canterbury Cricket and was also a provincial selector. Sharp was awarded the Sutcliffe Medal in 2006 for outstanding services to cricket. He died in February 2012 after a battle with cancer.
